First Official Still From The Next James Bond Film ‘Skyfall’

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Jan 13 2012 // 3:00 PM

Sometimes the first official image from a movie can drastically change the public’s perspective of an upcoming film. It can show you an exciting new look from a main character, or it can give you hints to the story or plot. Then some times the first official still is just a man sitting by a pool in the dark.

Empire has debuted the first official image from Skyfall. A lonely and sullen looking Bond playing footsie with a swimming pool after hours. Maybe that watch is a new Q gadget, or perhaps there are sharks with laser beam head gear just out of frame!

Yeah, not exactly the most exciting first still in the history of movies, but it is still notable for a few reasons. One, it is James Bond, and with the recent strife with MGM, seeing him officially in Skyfall is nice to see. There was real concern that the movie would never get made, but it is really happening.

Also this is the 5oth anniversary of James Bond, which is a huge deal. The Golden Anniversary for a cinematic icon is important to recognize, and any opportunity this year to talk about Britain’s most dashing spy will be used. Hopefully they will be more meaty in the future.

First Image Released Of Walter Hill’s ‘Bullet to the Head’

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Dec 19 2011 // 3:00 PM

Walter Hill makes fantastic men movies. The kinds of films that exude all of the best aspects of macho glory. From The Warriors to 48hrs and even the first episode of Deadwood, Hill just has what it takes to capture a man’s attention.

His newest film, Bullet to the Head, will be Hill’s first theatrical feature in a decade, and with 80s icons being resurrected left and right, the time is ripe for a return to his style of machismo. The movie stars Sylvester Stallone, Christian Slater and Jason Momoa and concerns a cop and a hit man teaming up together to fight a common adversary.

Bullet to the Head promises to be exactly the kind of no holds barred, knock down, drag out slug fest of a film that we don’t really see anymore. The first image released on Aint It Cool News shows off Stallone embroiled in an axe battle, and it just excites to no end. The Expendables 2 promises to bring all the familiar faces of 80s hard core action to the screen next year, but Bullet in the Head could deliver us the actual 80s style action spectacle.

Walter Hill’s Bullet to the Head is scheduled to his April 13th, 2012.

First Image of Daniel Day-Lewis as Abe Lincoln Hits the Web

by Eric Medina, Dec 5 2011 // 7:30 AM

Daniel Day Lewis is a badass. The There Will Be Blood star is infamous for never breaking character during a film’s production, and it seems that his latest portrayal of the iconic American president in Steven Speilberg’s Lincoln is no exception.

Spotted at a local cafe in Richmond, Virginia by Michael Phillips, this image has been making the rounds as the first glimpse of what this film could look like.  Even though he’s enjoying his meal in jeans and a turtleneck, his hair an makeup certainly make a spot-on Abraham Lincoln.

Take a look at the candid image in full after the jump.

Concept Art and PEZ Dispenser Show Off The Lizard From ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Nov 30 2011 // 1:30 PM

One of the hardest villains in Spider-Man’s rouge gallery to visualize on film is going to get his time to shine next summer. After years of teases in the Raimi films, The Lizard will finally be front and center in a movie. So naturally his appearance is going to be very important to sell the character. They have shown off the scaly monster at Comic-Con this year, but not everyone could watch that footage, and only blurry images and video can be found online.

We now have a pretty good look at the character, or more appropriately his design. SpiderMedia has posted concept art that showcase his rather unique appearance. The Lizard looks like a giant, man-size reptile, so from that respect the design does what it is supposed to do. On the other hand, this looks more like a goomba from the Super Mario Bros. movie, so the jury is still out.

Those who might doubt the validity of the concept art can rest assured that officially licensed PEZ dispensers have also been seen. ComicBookMovie has pictures of the dispensers depicting the new Spider-Man and his reptilian foe. It is clear that the mold of the Lizard is more than similar enough to the concept art to give credence to both.

You can see both images after the jump.

New Stills and Poster for Disney’s ‘John Carter’ Arrive

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Nov 29 2011 // 1:30 PM

Over the next five months, two of the best American animation directors are making the leap to live-action adventure films. Brad Bird has the much anticipated Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol coming this Christmas and Andrew Stanton brings John Carter to life next March. Both directors have previously been making movies with PIXAR, creating such classics as The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo and Wall-E.

In anticipation of a soon to be released full trailer for next spring’s epic, Disney has released a new poster and a set of stills for John Carter. The pictures showcase some of the more interesting elements of the upcoming movie, including the four-armed Tars Tarkas, played by Willem Defoe, and the adorable Woola who might just steal this movie. The other stills give us clear glimpses of some of the production design of the movie, and hints to its scope.

The poster, on the other hand, is a really classy minimalist design that really sells the Martian setting. This is a striking design that should look sharp in movie theater hallways this holiday season.

Check out all the stills and the full poster after the jump.

NYCC11: Con Floor Photo Gallery

by John Carle, Oct 19 2011 // 7:30 AM

As always, one of our favorite parts of any convention is the sights and NYCC was full of them this year so we had to share them with the Flickcast audience. The level of dedication by the men and women who attend the con every year is staggering.

Some are picture perfect renditions that rival movie quality costumes like the Anakin Skywalker we saw wandering the floor. Others come from careful collection of legitimate television costumes and props like the classic Power Rangers Green Ranger. Still others take their own imagination and run wild with custom Mandalorian battle armor for both human and giant chicken alike to life sized Castle Crashers.

One of the things this gallery sadly doesn’t do justice is give an idea on just how huge NYCC was this year. Though it is yet to overtake the surrounding neighborhood like SDCC does, the New York Comic Con feels every bit as big and as important as its west coast counterpart.

The entire Javitts Center was filled with every major comic company to movie studios and video game publishers in every corner. This year the Flickcast was only able to spend a day on the Con floor but if things keep looking up for NYCC, we may have to tackle this show the same way we do San Diego Comic Con or E3.

Take a look below to get just a glimpse of the many sights at this year’s convention. See you next year New York!

First Images From Relativity’s Untitled ‘Snow White Project’ Surface

by Matt Raub, Oct 10 2011 // 10:00 AM

Fairy tales are all the rage these days. Between two brand new series starting on both ABC and NBC later this month about mystical worlds, and the ever-growing popularity of vampires and zombies, people are loving fantasy lately.

Which makes sense why two studios are racing to the finish line with exciting new projects involving the Snow White universe. Twilight star Kristen Stewart is making some moves over at Universal with Snow White and the Huntsman, while Relativity Media is now pushing some new images of their untitled Snow White Film.

For those who still need help differentiating the two projects, here’s Relativity’s breakdown of their film.

Visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) rewrites fairy tale history as a wicked enchantress (Julia Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan’s (Lily Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Armie Hammer). When Snow White’s beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits.

Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen. With the support of her subjects, she roars into action in an epic battle that blends spectacle, magic and contemporary humor in Singh’s signature, jaw-dropping visual style.

We’ve got a whole slew of new images for you to check out after the jump, which will have to hold you over while Relativity decides on a release date (and a title) for the film.

New Images from ‘The Avengers’ Surface

by Joe Gillis, Oct 6 2011 // 11:44 AM

Marvel has released a few new pics from The Avengers to get you even more psyched to see it. Not that you probably needed it. Like us, we’re sure you’ll be in line on day one for what promises to be the greatest Marvel movie of al time.

First ‘Official’ Photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Arrives

by Joe Gillis, Aug 5 2011 // 8:40 AM

There’s been some pics of The Dark Knight Rises circulating around the web of Batman and thugs fighting on the steps of what may be Gotham City Hall. We’ll assume you’ve seen them because you’re rabid fans of the franchise.

Now Warner Bros has released something pretty much every rabid fan of the franchise may have wanted to see even more than Batman and Bane: the first official photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. The photo, which appeared on the official website, TheDarkKnightRises.com, is sadly not all that sexy.

It is, however, a pretty good look at what Nolan is going for with his Catwoman and keeps pretty much in line with his vision for the films. Of course, what did you expect? According to sources, Nolan’s vision for the Catwoman costume is more “tactical, like the comic book,” “less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes”, and would feature goggles.

That seems to describe what we’re seeing here completely. Maybe there’s some other version of her outfit that appears later in the film? It would be a shame to have a woman as attractive as Hathaway and not utilize all her talents to the fullest.

Check out the full version of the photo after the jump. And, a couple others we found from around the Internets.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Marvel Gets Ready for Their Own Reboot with ‘Marvel: Season One’

by Matt Raub, Aug 1 2011 // 9:00 AM

Bob Dylan said it best when he sang about changing times, and now that songs is more prophetic than ever in the comic book industry. Hard to believe Marvel was once going out of business and having a fire sale, as their films are some of the biggest blockbusters of the summer season, and they’ve got more properties on TV and other media than ever before. Between facts like that and the fact that DC is panicking and rebooting their entire universe back to the basics, they feel like it may be time to join in the fun.

That’s where Marvel: Season One comes in. Rather than what DC is doing and mess with the ongoing continuity of their books, Season One is taking their most popular characters and giving old fans and new a chance to relive some of their early adventures with a separate series.

“With Marvel Season One we’ve assembled a group of great creators who’re delivering exciting, iconic, in-continuity stories of our most popular heroes,” said Tom Brevoort, Marvel SVP/Executive Editor. “If you’re a new fan, you can start your journey into comics with Season One and if you’re a seasoned fan you’ll find some thrilling new insight into your favorite characters.”

The complete first wave of Season One graphic novels includes:

• Fantastic Four: Season One by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Stephen King’s The Stand, Television’s Glee) and David Marquez (Secret Warriors), on-sale in February 2012

• X-Men: Season One by Dennis Hopeless (Legion Of Monsters, Lovestruck) and Jamie McKelvie (Generation Hope, Phonogram), on-sale in March 2012

• Daredevil: Season One by Antony Johnston (Daredevil) and Wellinton Alves (Nova), on-sale in April 2012

• Spider-Man: Season One by Cullen Bunn (Fear Itself: The Deep, Sixth Gun) and Neil Edwards (Fantastic Four), on-sale in May 2012

Not only will this be a way to introduce fans of the films to the original medium in which they started, but it’ll be great fodder for classic comic fans to see how modern artists re-imagine some of the great stories Lee and Kirby thought up decades ago. Expect to see these books hit shelves starting next year and check out the early covers from the first wave after the jump.

SDCC11: John Carle’s Epic Comic Con Photo Gallery

by John Carle, Jul 25 2011 // 9:00 AM

Comic-Con in San Diego is great event that excites the senses like no other. The sights and sounds are unlike any others (and unfortunately, sometimes so are the smells). Those of us lucky enough to see Comic-Con in person would be remiss not to allow others the opportunities to see them as well.

From beautiful women in sexy costumes to guys decked out in full combat gear and gigantic booth displays and monstrously oversized robots, visually Comic-Con has everything. And you can’t forget the celebrities.

Where else in the world could someone see Hulk Hogan signing autographs and ten minutes later find Wonder Woman having a beer at the bar. (Wonder Woman wanted to make sure everyone knows she does not encourage underage drinking). We had some other great photo galleries during the show and now we’ve got a brand new one with a bit more epicness.

As always, we send out a special shout out to the fanboys and fangirls who spent hours of hard work creating some of the best costumes we have seen. Each year, people keep getting better and this year’s Con was proof again of that.

Take a peek below at more amazing pics from Comic-Con 2011 from San Diego.

SDCC11: First Promo Images from ‘The Huntsman’ Arrive

by Heather Toshiko, Jul 24 2011 // 10:22 AM

Right after the presentation late yesterday at Comic-Con in San Diego, Universal Pictures released the first promo images for their upcoming re-imagining of the Snow White story called The Huntsman. And to be honest, they look pretty cool.

In this images we get our first look at Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the Queen, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Sam Claflin as the Prince. The film also features Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Steven Graham and Nick Frost.

Sadly, no pics of any of them just yet. Got to get the big characters and big actor names out in front first, apparently. According to reports from the panel, the proof of concept footage from the film looked pretty good too so if these images and that fact give us a bit of hope that the tend will continue and this movie will end up finishing the sam way.

The Hunstman opens on June 1, 2012. Click through to see all the rest of the images.
