‘BioShock: Infinite’ Gets Hit With a Delay, It’s Now One of the Most Anticipated Games of 2013

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, May 9 2012 // 1:30 PM

There are times in life where you want to do your best Darth Vader from Revenge of the Sith impression and just yell ‘NO!’ as goofily and as loudly into the air as you can. Right now is one such time, as one of the most highly anticipated games of the year has been pushed to next year.

Irrational Games has posted a statement on their website from BioShock: Infinite director, Ken Levine:

When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing.

Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary. Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.

This is equally horrible and great news. On one hand we have to wait four more months for a game we have already been waiting so long for. On the other hand what is four more months if we end up with a much better game. That conflicted feeling is no doubt running through many video gamer’s minds right about now.

The statement also mentioned BioShock: Infinite will not have a presence at the big summer gaming shows, so the next time we see the game it will be pretty close to done. Let the slightly longer wait commence.

Fresnadillo’s ‘Bioshock’ Film On Hold Again, But ‘Highlander’ Moving Forward

by Sebastian Suchecki, Mar 28 2012 // 7:30 AM

In disappointing news for all the Bioshock fans out there, it looks like the film adaptation of the popular video game series is once again on the shelf. The film has run into many difficulties since day one securing the desired budget and creative control that a project like this would need. Gore Verbinski was set to produce with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set to direct, but it appears the helmer may no longer be on the project.

According to director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, he has completely left the Bioshock adaptation due to the drawn out process of getting this film off the ground

“To be honest, by now, I’m completely out of that, and developing other stuff,” Fresnadillo said. “Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the video game company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.”

‘Bioshock: Infinite’ Finally Has A Release Date

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Mar 1 2012 // 2:00 PM

The original Bioshock is a modern gaming classic. Proof that visual style and excellent storytelling are paramount qualities that can over come simple and semi-linear game play. Then the sequel came out and it sucked.

The hope is that Bioshock: Infinite can deliever the magic from the original, and everything we have seen to this point promises to do just that.

2k Games announced today that the much anticipated sequel is going to officially hit on October 16th, 2012. Setting up this marquee title in the early fourth quarter window that is becoming the premiere release season in the video game world.

One aspect of the upcoming game that has fans so excited is that it isn’t really all that much of a sequel. Bioshock: Infinite is not set in the underwater world of Rapture, but instead will take place in the flying world of Columbia. Such a dramatic change is hopefully going to help rekindle the since of awe and wonder that the original game had in spades.

The game will also be set in a different time period, actually going further back in time to a a full one hundred years ago, 1912, instead of the familiar late 1940′s of the first two games. We at The Flickcast certianly can’t wait to get our hands on this exciting new game.

VGA Trailer Roundup: ‘Amazing Spider-Man’, ‘Last of Us’, & More

by John Carle, Dec 12 2011 // 12:00 PM

Saturday night, Spike TV held its annual Video Game Awards show which, as promised, gave the first looks at some huge trailers for 2012′s gaming landscape.

Naughty Dog gets to step away from their blockbuster Uncharted series to work on a new IP titled The Last of Us. This new title takes a different approach from the recent string of zombie / infected scenarios where it looks like it can be a game of stealth and horror mixed together. It isn’t a world like Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead where the creatures flood the street and makes the possibility of combining the stealth and horror genres pretty intriguing.

This has the possibility of becoming a fantastic PlayStation exclusive franchise. The trailer for The Last of Us is definitely one of the great surprises from the VGAs this year.

Check it Out: The Official ‘BioShock’ Fan Film Gets a Teaser

by Sebastian Suchecki, Dec 6 2011 // 8:30 AM

Now that video games have surpassed films in terms of original storytelling, there are tons of properties that are ripe for adaptation. A bunch of those are already coming to fruition, but one that fans have decided not to wait forever for is the first person shooter Bioshock.

There has been talks about Gore Verbinski taking on the film, but in the meantime, Internet filmmaker Jared Pelletier has decided to take things into his own hands with his very own live action Bioshock film set for the spring of 2013. To get fans ready for the film’s release (and expected production diary leading up to it), he has posted the first teaser for the film online.

Full of classic swingy goodness, and maybe a few shots of action, the teaser is more than enough to hold fans over for a bit of time.

Take a look at it after the jump, and subscribe to the official Bioshock fan film channel on YouTube. Here’s to hoping we can beat Hollywood to the finish line!

E3 2011: Other Highlights of the Sony Press Confrence

by Joe Gillis, Jun 7 2011 // 11:00 AM

We’ve got too much stuff to do to be everywhere so as we did for Ubisoft and Microsoft, we also skipped the Sony press conference as well. Heck, we just wanted them to apologize for all the PSN problems lately and tell us a solution had been found to actually secure their network.

As we knew that probably wasn’t going to happen it didn’t seem like a press event we absolutely had to attend. Not when we could do the same as before and rely on our friends at Geek Week for some help. Although, we did already bring you the news of the new Sony Vita.

Here’s the rest of the highlights from the Sony press conference last night:

• Sony previews MORTAL KOMBAT, UNCHARTED 3, and RACHET & CLANK: ALL 4 ONE in 3D

• Gameplay of UNCHARTED 3 is demoed, and a 3D trailer is shown

• RESISTANCE 3 is demoed in 3D; on September 6, Sony will offer a $150 sharpshooter bundle for RESISTANCE 3, which includes the game, a gun, and a Move kit

• GOD OF WAR: ORIGINS COLLECTIONS announced, with 3D support

• Sony is developing a special 24″ television with two-player splitscreen technology that will allow players wearing special glasses to play two-player games on one screen

• Kobe Bryant does a Move demo of NBA 2K12; the game is due out October 4

Check Out The First Awesome Trailer For ‘Bioshock Infinite’

by Matt Raub, Aug 12 2010 // 1:00 PM

While we probably have to wait for a while before we ever get a Bioshock film, we have some fantastic cinematic sequences from the previous two games to hold us over. Now, we’ve got a brand new trailer that will give us enough to get excited until Bioshock Infinite, the final game, hits stores in late 2012.

The third game in the series takes place in 1912, years before the events of Bioshock and Bioshock 2. If the first game took place in the underwater city of Rapture, and the second game followed through the city after it surfaced, this game understandably takes place in the sky city of Columbia. Consider it a steampunk Cloud City from Star Wars.

The new protagonist of the game is Booker Dewitt, a disgraced ex detective who’s onto a hot trail that will uncover a sinister plot. Not a whole lot more is known about the game, as the very first news is hitting today, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we get info.

In the meantime, check out the first new trailer for Bioshock Infinite after the jump, and be sure to pick it up on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC in 2012.

Gore Verbinski To Helm ‘Walter Mitty’, Insists ‘Bioshock’ Hasn’t Sunk

by Elisabeth Rappe, Jul 1 2010 // 7:00 AM

As you undoubtedly know by now, the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean installment has sailed without Gore Verbinski. The director has kept himself busy with Rango, but hasn’t seen any of his live action projects come to fruition.

But now Variety reports that Verbinski is in talks to direct a remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.  The classic 1947 film has been making the remake rounds for decades, with Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard and Chuck Russell taking the helm at various times.  Now it may fall to Verbinski, as 20th Century Fox is determined to get it cast and shooting by next spring.

Walter Mitty is based on James Thurber’s short story. Mitty is a book editor who spends more time in heroic daydreams than in making his own life a success.  The film took great liberties with the source material (much to the dismay of Thurber) and became a story where a daydreamer becomes a real life hero. There’s no talk of the Mitty remake returning to the source material, so I imagine the update will be filled with similar elements of zaniness, especially since Jim Carrey was once attached to star.

Verbinski is also still involved with the bigscreen adaptation of Bioshock. Though budgetary concerns caused him to lose the director’s chair to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, he remains attached as producer.  Rumors have swirled that Bioshock is dead in the water, but Verbinski told IGN that he’s still hoping to inject it with a plasmid or two.

Video Game Sales Bragging Rights for Take-Two

by John Carle, Mar 5 2010 // 7:00 AM

Take-Two Interactive has a lot to be happy about. They were pleased to report that BioShock 2 has already surpassed the 3 million unit sales mark since its February 9th release. At its current pace, it already looks like it will break the 4 million in sales the original game did. Some of the success is likely attributed to simultaneous releases of BioShock 2 on XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC as opposed to the staggered releases of the original.

Take-Two also reported their latest epic selling release, Grand Theft Auto IV, has topped the 15 million mark across all platforms. This doesn’t even include the downloadable content or Episodes from Liberty City disc pack sales. It’d be no surprise if this year at E3, a new GTA title was announced whether its GTA 5 or a Vice City or San Andreas update.

In Wii and DS news, Take-Two was proud to say that their Carnival Games series has exceeded the 6 million mark and continues to sell steadily. Like many games on the Wii and DS, Carnival Games is experiencing a longer than usual life cycle which lets Take-Two executives sit back with their feet up and not even have to bother planning a sequel just yet.

‘Bioshock 2′ Launch Trailer Hits The Web

by John Carle, Feb 4 2010 // 9:00 AM

Bioshock was one of the unexpected gems of late 2008. With its immerse story and compelling narrative style, this first person shooter left people wanting more. Even with a lackluster final battle, Bioshock took the video game world by storm and had people clamoring for more of Rapture, the underwater world created by Andrew Ryan in hopes of a Utopian society.

Since its announcement, Bioshock 2 has been one of the driving forces of the video game world, especially with the announcement of a multiplayer mode being added. Coming February 9th to the XBox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, 2K games let the world see the game’s final release trailer on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

They took the same approach of gameplay-styled footage in the first person perspective but this time put the viewer in to the head of the Big Daddy character they will be playing as. This trailer also gives people their first glimpse at the power of a Big Sister in the heat of battle.

Take a look for yourself at the trailer after the jump and stay tuned to The Flickcast for more info on Bioshock 2 as it becomes available.
