All New Teaser for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 2 is Here

by Matt Raub, Dec 12 2011 // 7:30 AM

Things may have been pretty explosive on the finale of Boardwalk Empire last night, the real excitement is a few short months away when the critically acclaimed series Game of Thrones returns for what should be an even more amazing second season.

We left off with some pretty big question marks, and even bigger exclamation points at the end of last season, and while we won’t see Sean Bean making a return (spoiler!), we hope to get some amazing storytelling and even more amazing twists this season.

The newest teaser for the season hit the air last night, and we’ve got it for you to check out after the jump. Catch the all new season of Game of Thrones on HBO starting in April.

‘The Descent’ Director Neil Marshall to Direct ‘Game of Thrones’

by Matt Raub, Sep 13 2011 // 7:00 AM

As if we didn’t get enough amazingness in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, the folks at the network feel like they need to bring in a few surprises before they start shooting season two, as they have already announced a few special directors tasked with taking on the new episodes.

It looks like director Neil Marshall, who’s no stranger to armor and action from directing Doomsday, will be taking on an episode or two of season 2. From Deadline:

Feature director Neil Marshall (The Descent) is set to direct an episode from the second season of HBO’s fantasy seriesGame of Thrones. This marks the TV debut of Marshall, who a huge fan of the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s books.

Other directors tapped for Season 2 of Emmy-nominated Game of Thrones include top TV helmers Alan Taylor, who worked on the series’ freshman season, and David Nutter as well as Alik Sakharov and David Petrarca (Boardwalk Empire).

There is still no word on what stories from R.R. Martin’s Song of Fire & Ice will be adapted for this season, but you can certainly expect to see some of your favorite actors (mostly just Dinklage) return for the next batch of episodes.

First ‘Knights of Badassdom’ Trailer Arrives

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 24 2011 // 8:00 AM

The world of fantasy/comedy has been a little neglected lately. In fact, I would challenge you to name any fantasy/comedy movie in the last several years that warranted even a slight notice by most fans and critics.

Obviously, Your Highness is a movie that came out recently that mostly fills this quota. Another is the upcoming Knights of Badassdom which, for lack of a better word, rocks. Or, it seems to based on this brand new first trailer for the film that we have for you today.

The films features Peter Dinklage, Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, Summer Glau and Danny Pudi who gear up for the epic, but fake, Battle of Evermore and … accidentally summon a real succubus from hell.

Yes, you read that right. It does sound cool and, in fact, is. Check out the new trailer after the jump

2011 Primetime Emmy Nominations Announced

by Joe Gillis, Jul 14 2011 // 10:00 AM

It’s not particularly surprising that Mad Men and Mildred Pierece had the most nominations today when Melissa McCarthy and Joshua Jackson made the 2011 Primetime Emmy announcement. Jane Lynch will be hosting the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18.

For the complete list of nominees, head over to the Emmys website. We’ve just got the ones we really care about for you here. (aka The Big Ones).

Of course, the fact that Community isn’t nominated in the Outstanding Comedy category just makes these awards that much less special. Plus, I wouldn’t want to be nominated in a category against Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones. He’s pretty much got that one in the bag

Check out the nominations below.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory
Johnny Galecki, The Big Bang Theory
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
Louis C.K., Louie
Steve Carell, The Office
Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire
Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights
Hugh Laurie, House
Timothy Olyphant, Justified
Jon Hamm, Mad Men

‘Knights of Badassdom’ Finally Gets A Synopsis

by Matt Raub, Jul 7 2011 // 7:00 AM

For those who are planning on heading to San Diego Comic-Con in a few weeks that were disparaged by the fact that most major film studios are not planning anything major, there are smaller projects popping up that will likely be the winners of the show this year.

One of those is the new indie comedies titled Knights of Badassdom, starring True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten, Summer Glau, Danny Pudi, and Game of Throne’s Peter Dinklage. A little bit of Your Highness and a little bit of Role Models, the film looks to take a pretty funny look at the very real world of LARP’ing. Here’s the premise.

In this humorous fantasy adventure from IndieVest Pictures, Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is a heavy metal rocker who’s just gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Beth (Margarita Levieva). His concerned roommates (Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage) kidnap him to their LARP (Live Action Role Playing) gathering, where he enters a realm of fantasy escapism in which pretend knights, elves, and barbarians clash with foam weaponry on a mock battlefield.

Check Out a Preview for Sunday’s New Episode of ‘Game of Thrones’

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 3 2011 // 9:00 AM

HBO’s Game of Thrones gets more interesting and compelling each week. Last week’s epiosde also gave new meaning to “getting crowned” and, let’s just say, put us off buying gold for awhile.

Anyway, the show is back this Sunday with a new episode and, of course, we’ve got a preview of it for you. In this one, which is entitled “The Pointy End”, those evil Lannisters press their advantage over the Starks. Meanwhile, Robb (Richard Madden) rallies his father’s northern allies and heads South to war.

Also, or so it would appear from the photo of this week’s episod above, Kahl Drogo has a couple knives and isn’t afraid to use them. Perhaps that explains the title of this week’s episode. We’ll find out soon enough.

Click through to watch the preview. Game of Thrones airs Sunday at 9/8C on HBO.

Check Out Previews for Sunday’s New Episode of ‘Game of Thrones’

by Chris Ullrich, May 20 2011 // 3:15 PM

We’ve been following HBO’s new fantasy series Game of Thrones since before it aired the first episode. The potent mix of action, drama, intrigue, sex and several nice looking females has made the show a must-watch.

As we’ve been doing for a few weeks now, we’ve got a preview for Sunday’s new episode to share with you today. In this new episode, entitled “A Golden Crown,” Ned is back in action as the Hand.

While sitting in for the King while Robert is on a hunt, he issues a decree that could have long-term consequences throughout the Seven Kingdoms. Meanwhile, at the Eyrie, Tyrion confesses to his “crimes,” and demands that Lysa give him a trial by combat.

Also in the episode Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) apologizes to Sansa, Viserys receives his final payment for Daenerys from Drogo (Jason Mamoa) and other equally visual and visceral goings on. Should be fun.

Check out both preview videos after the jump. Games of Thrones airs on Sunday at 9/8C on HBO.

Check Out a Preview for Sunday’s New Episode of ‘Game of Thrones’

by Joe Gillis, May 13 2011 // 2:00 PM

HBO’s series Game of Thrones keeps getting more interesting and intense with each new episode. The new one we will get to see this Sunday is no exception.

Entitled “The Wolf and the Lion” the episode is described by HBO as follows:

Incensed over news of Daenerys’ alliance with the Dothrakis, Robert orders a preemptive strike on the Targaryens that drives a wedge in his relationship with Ned. Meanwhile, a captive Tyrion helps Catelyn, but receives a cold reception at the Eyrie from her sister, John Arryn’s widow Lysa (Kate Dickie). And, Sansa is charmed by the dashing Ser Loras Tyrell (Finn Jones), aka the Knight of Flowers. Arya overhears a plot against her father.

Well well, it seems the intrigue is building. Plus, we may get some cool fight scenes this Sunday. Let’s hope.

The episode debuts at 9/8C Sunday on HBO. Check out a preview for it after the jump.

Updated: Check Out Two Clips From Sunday’s New Episode of ‘Game of Thrones’

by Chris Ullrich, May 6 2011 // 7:00 AM

When the TV series Game of Thrones was first announced it was, at least for me, regarded with a bit of skepticism. It looked sorta cool but I had to wonder how it one be once it got going. Fortunately, it turns out I had nothing to worry about.

The show, which is about to air its fourth episode this Sunday, started out a bit slow but over the last few weeks has gotten progressively better and now, I have to admit, I’m hooked.

Now, to get you readhy for this Sunday’s episode, we’ve got aclip from it to show you (after the break, of course). In this episode, called “Cripples, Bastards and Broken Things”, Ned (Sean Bean) looks to a book for clues to the death of his predecessor, and uncovers one of King Robert’s (Mark Addy) bastards.

Robert and his guests witness a tournament honoring Ned. Jon takes measures to protect Samwell (John Bradley) from further abuse at Castle Black; a frustrated Viserys clashes with Daenerys in Vaes Dothrak; Sansa (Sophie Turner) imagines her future as a queen, while Arya envisions a far different future. Catelyn rallies her husband’s allies to make a point, while Tyrion finds himself caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yep, that’s a lot of story for one episode. Watch Game of Thrones Sunday at 9/8C on HBO to see if they pull it off. My guess is they do.

HBO Renews ‘Game of Thrones’ After Airing One Episode

by Chris Ullrich, Apr 19 2011 // 10:30 AM

It must be nice not to have to worry so much about ratings and instead focus primarily on quality. Oh, to have those kinds of problems like premiere cable netwrok HBO. What have they done this time?

Much like they did previously with shows such as Boardwalk Empire and Treme, HBO has given the greenlight for another season to its new drama Game of Thrones after only airing the premiere episode — even though its rating didin’t set any records. The ratings were solid, coming in between other premieres such as True Blood and Boardwalk Empire, but it’s the show itself that earned another season.

“We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers,” HBO’s head of programming Michael Lombardo said.

For its debut at 9 PM on Sunday, the show drew 2.2 million viewers, down 54% from the September premiere of Boardwalk Empire but up 57% from the 1.4 million who tuned in for the debut of True Blood 3 years ago. Overall, the premiere of Game of Thrones averaged 4.2 million viewers on Sunday for its 3 airings vs. 7.1 million for Boardwalk Empire in September.

So far HBO seems to be doing very well with most of its original programming, especially lately. With True Blood and Treme returning soon and the solid performance of Game of Thrones it looks like DVRs across the country are going to remain full of HBO programming for the foreseeable future. As fans of the new Game of Thrones as well as Treme, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Bored to Death and most of the other current HBO series, we’re going to be there too.

Game of Thrones stars Mark Addy, Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. It airs Sundays at 9/8C on HBO.

New ‘Game of Thrones’ Trailer Arrives

by Chris Ullrich, Jan 19 2011 // 12:00 PM

HBO usually does pretty well with TV series. From Rome to Deadwood to The Sopranos, True Blood, Treme’ and Boardwalk Empire, the pay cable network usually brings the drama and brings it but good. The upcoming series Game of Thrones looks to carry on that tradition.

Game of Thrones, an adaptation of George R.R.Martin’s fantasy series Song of Ice and Fire, is set in a world where magic exists and the empire is on its last legs. It follows the machinations of various kings, lords and soldiers as they fight for control of the throne. The show stars Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey and Jason Momoa. We’ve got a brand new trailer for the show for you today.

Check it out after the break. Game of Thrones premieres on HBO on April 17th,
