First Trailer for ‘Uncanny X-Force’ Comic Arrives

by Joe Gillis, Sep 8 2010 // 11:00 AM

It’s a good day when we get a new trailer for a cool comic. Fortunately, today is one of those days.

As in the past with motion comics like Astonishing X-Men and Spider-Woman, we’ve got a new trailer for an upcoming comic to share with you today. This one is from Uncanny X-Force and like the previous ones, this new one looks to be pretty darn cool.

Here’s the scoop on the trailer and the comic’s story directly from Marvel:

After Cyclops disbands Wolverine’s black-ops group, Logan assembles a brand new team to face a deadly new threat, courtesy of fan favorite creators Rick Remender, Jerome Opena and Dean White in Uncanny X-Force #1. Now get an exclusive look at the first issue—and the team’s deadly new mission—in this all-new trailer. You can’t miss Uncanny X-Force #1, in stores October 6.

Even though this isn’t a motion comic exactly it still manages to capture the story and look of the comic itself. And yeah, it moves a bit too.

Click through to check out the new trailer.

‘We Are The X-Men’

by John Carle, Apr 15 2010 // 3:00 PM

Anyone who has been reading “X-Men: Second Coming” knows there are some HUGE changes in store for Marvel’s band of merry mutants. X-Men are crossing lines they never thought they would have to and it’s obvious that not everyone is going to be making it out of this event alive.

Not that it’s a spoiler, but we do know that in the end, the X-Men will survive the event of Second Coming but it looks like not only the team, but the entire concept of the word X-Men will be changing forever.

For the past week, Marvel has been rolling out promotional images, in a similar vein to their “I’m an Avenger” campaign showing off the new roster of the X-Men. Some of them are expected (pending they survive Second Coming) like Magneto and Gambit.

Others seem to come totally out of left field like Blade, Spider-Man and the Savage She-Hulk, all non-mutants. Take a look below at the images along with some added insight from Marvel editor Nick Lowe about these new X-Men.

The Pull List Comic Reviews: ‘Lobo’, ‘Buffy’, ‘Psylocke’ and More

by Sal Loria, Nov 5 2009 // 11:00 AM

Welcome to The Pull List Comic Reviews! First off, a huge thanks to John Carle for covering the column last week, he did a fantastic job. Make sure you check out The Flickcast’s podcast this week where he was also a guest-host! The dude’s everywhere. Okay, on with the comics. As always, WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

PULL OF THE WEEK:

lhth1Lobo: Highway to Hell #1 (of 2) – DC Comics – $6.99 US
Writer: Scott Ian Artist: Sam Keith
Score: 8.5

You’re sitting there, asking yourself “How in all that is holy is Lobo: Highway to Hell the Pull of the Week?” Believe me, I’m asking myself that very same question. You see I’ve never dug Lobo. I’ve read a good chunk of his various issues over the years and I’ve never seen the attraction to the character, but seeing as variety is the spice of life, I figured I’d give this a shot. The premise sounded interesting enough…

Lobo’s chillin’ at home when he receives a message – in the form of slain dolphins – from the big bad himself: the Devil. Even though the Main Man has been banished from Hell for quite awhile now, he figures it’s time to go on a road trip and pay a not-so-friendly visit to his old pal, Beelzebub. Along the way everyone’s favorite Czarnian runs into more violence, mayhem, booze and floozy “women” than he can shake a stick at, but what happens when he finally comes face to face with the cutest evil… waitaminute… CUTE?!?

He hasn’t had a starring role since 2007’s Batman/Lobo: Deadly Serious, so when DC Comics dusted the mothballs off of the character, they decided to get a fresh take on him. Enter Scott Ian, the guitarist for the band Anthrax. Ian’s first foray into comic writing is pretty decent, but it’s how he handles the title character that blew me away. There was just enough here to add weight to the usual aloofness that the character normally projects, which clicked beautifully. While the big payoff will be next issue’s finale, so far this has been a very enjoyable ride.

The Maxx creator Sam Keith, who had both writing and artistic duties on the aforementioned 2007 mini-series, makes his return to the character. Bringing his distinctive style that is every bit as manic as Lobo is, the art looks great, even while juggling different levels of detail throughout the issue. From what I could tell, the creative team looked like they catered to each other’s strengths, culminating in a fun romp that became our Pull of the Week.

Black Panther Video and New ‘Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2′ Alternate Costumes

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2009 // 2:15 PM

black-panther-mua-1Now that we are aware that Carnage, Cable, and Psylocke are all apart of the downloadable character pack for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and we know the cost and release date, here’s a brand new character to add to that list. Welcome Black Panther, King of the Wakanda Jungle, to the game as a playable character.

Panther is 4 of the 5 alleged add-ons proposed for the game (not including Juggernaut), and will be an interesting addition to the game’s dynamic, especially fighting alongside his in-comic wife, Storm. Magneto is rumored to be the final member to be added to the game, but we’re still waiting for confirmation on that.

Along with the launch video for Black Panther, you can also check out the first images of the alternate costumes for Psylocke, Carnage, and Cable. They are all pretty straightforward, with Cable’s “modern-day” look being the coolest.

Check out all of the images and the launch video after the jump.

Release Date and Price for ‘Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2′ Downloadable Characters

by Matt Raub, Nov 4 2009 // 11:15 AM

marvel_ultimate_alliance_2After a few weeks of drooling, the developers of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 have finally given us a release date and price of their newest dowloadable character pack, including Psylocke, Carnage, Cable, Black Panther, and Magneto. The good news is that Xbox Live owners will get the pack this Thursday (November 5th), and the bad news is that gamers on the PlayStation Network have to wait until next week.

Though they haven’t announced yet that Magneto has been added to the pack, it was leaked a few weeks back when Psylocke and Carnage were first announced. The announcement for Black Panther came on Tuesday, and the alternate costumes for Cable, Psylocke and Carnage were released earlier this week as well.

Fans who worried about the price have nothing to stress about anymore, as the price has been announced as 800 Microsoft Points ($9.99 normally). This was the same price as the Hero and Villain Pack for the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance game back in 2007.

That price includes all five characters, new boosts, and brand-new simulator missions. Also available on that date, for the first time, is the Juggernaut downloadable character, which has only been available to fans who pre-ordered the game until now. You can also purchase Juggernaut for 160 Microsoft Points, or $1.99.

Cable Joins ‘Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2′

by Matt Raub, Oct 26 2009 // 7:00 AM

Screen shot 2009-10-25 at 10.52.45 PMLast week, we got word of the first new downloadable characters for the sequel to Marvel Ultimate Alliance in X-Men’s Psylocke and Spider-Man’s Carnage. After that, in one of the promo screen shots for the character, we got a glimpse at a few of the other characters soon to be announced, including Magneto, Black Panther, and Cable.

It looks like that may have jumped the boat, as the developers announced this weekend that Cable is indeed the next downloadable character for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. There’s a new trailer for the character after the jump, which you can check out, and there isn’t a whole plethora of information on when the content will be hitting our consoles and for how much.

No word yet on Magneto and Black Panther, but seeing as how it only took a week to announce 3 new characters, don’t expect to have to wait very long to play the Ukanda King and Master of Magnetism. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is now available on all next gen systems.

Psylocke and Carnage Join ‘Ultimate Alliance 2′

by John Carle, Oct 16 2009 // 2:30 PM

Marvel_Ultimate_Alliance_2Fans of the original Marvel Ultimate Alliance will remember the addition of a Heroes Pack and Villains Pack of downloadable content that added eight new characters to the game’s already extensive list of playable Marvel icons. This year’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 looks like it won’t be a slouch either with the announcement of two downloadable characters that will be coming to a DLC pack for the game before year’s end.

The X-Men boost their ranks during the Civil War storyline with the addition of Psylocke. Though like some of the X-Men characters like Jean Grey and Gambit featured in the game as she wasn’t around during the actual Civil War story, this psychic ninja comes ready with her acrobatics and psi-blades ready to fight.

Spider-Man fans will be thrilled to see that the Mac Gargan version (or Ultimate version if you check the alternate costume) of Venom won’t be the only symbiotic presence in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 as lunatic serial killer Cletus Cassidy joins the roster as Carnage.
