Get Your First Look at Issue One of Marvel’s ‘FF’

by Chris Ullrich, Feb 17 2011 // 12:00 PM

As we discussed on this week’s episode of The Flickcast, the Human Torch is dead and a new member has apparently joined the group previously known as the Fantastic Four. That character is, of course, the Amazing Spider-Man.

Now, thanks to Marvel, we’ve got a preview of the first issue of this comic featuring the new team for you today. Called FF, the new series comes from the creative team of writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Steve Epting and is described this way by Marvel:

“In the wake of the Human Torch’s heroic sacrifice, Marvels’ first family has re-emerged as the Future Foundation. Spider-Man may their newest teammate, but who else has signed up to protect the future from itself? And what does their presence portend for the world at large?”

I’m not sure, but it does sound interesting. Okay Marvel, you’ve got me. I’m hooked and will read — at least the first few issues.

Check out several pages from the comic after the jump. Marvel’s FF #1 hits comic book stores on March 23rd.

Get Your First Look at Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four: Three’

by Joe Gillis, Aug 4 2010 // 11:00 AM

Even though they don’t get quite the big screen treatment they deserve, Marvel’s Fantastic Four are still great characters. They also have been featured in quite a few successful comics, particularly their own.

To highlight that we’ve got a preview for the upcoming Fantastic Four #583 comic called Fantastic Four: Three. From writer Jonathan Hickman and new series artist Steve Epting, the comic begins a new story arc featuring the also features The War of Four Cities.

However, as bad as wars can be, this one is even worse as it will mark the end of one of the Fantastic Four. Who will fall? It’s anyone’s guess. Although, there’s probably a pretty easy way to find out. I’ll just let you think about that one.

In the meantime, check out the gallery of preview images for the comic after the jump. Fantastic Four: Three hits comic store shelves on September 22nd.

The Pull List Comic Reviews: ‘Adventure Comics’, ‘Daytripper’, ‘Marvels Project’ and More!

by Sal Loria, Jan 14 2010 // 3:00 PM

Welcome to another edition of The Pull List Comic Reviews! Superboy’s Adventure comes to an end, Daytripper continues to be trippy and the Rhino gets a happy ending that may actually stick. As always, WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

PULL OF THE WEEK:

adventure-comics-6-coverAdventure Comics #6
DC Comics – $3.99 US
Writer: Geoff Johns
Artist: Francis Manapul
Score: 9/10

Superboy has been trying to “find himself” and determine if he’s more Superman than Lex Luthor, since his genetic make-up is made from both of them. Unfortunately, it’s Luthor who finds him first and serves notice that for all his intellect and power, Luthor still has that nasty little streak in him.

Honestly, this has been a fun, engaging run by superstar writer Geoff Johns. Equal parts adventure (which works great with the title) and drama, all revolved around Superboy’s own identity crisis, this arc hit all the right buttons without coming across as preachy or whiny; a testament to the writer’s considerable talent of making relevant topics matter in the pages of a comic book.

Marvel Unveils First Look at ‘The Marvels Project’

by Chris Ullrich, Jul 1 2009 // 1:45 PM

TheMarvelsProject_01_JimenezCoverAs we may have mentioned once or twice before, we kinda like comics here at The Flickcast. Be they from big companies, small companies, published online or something in between, if its sequential art, we try to read it. Some of the best titles around come from one of the biggest companies in comics, Marvel. Today, Marvel continues the trend by announcing another new bunch of very intriguing titles that all tie-in to what they’re calling The Marvels Project.

This new series of books are, according to Marvel, “from the Captain America Eisner-winning team of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting.” They allow readers to “discover the hidden connections that bring together Marvel’s earliest super heroes as the world stands on the brink of war! Who will create the first super soldier? And how does this affect the Marvel Universe today?”

Those are some great questions and ones I’m looking forward to finding out the answers to. Plus, I can’t help feeling this might have something to do with the upcoming feature film versions of Captain America and The Avengers. I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that one.

Issue #1 of The Marvels Project hits the shelves of your favorite comic shop in August. In the meantime, we’ve got several preview pages and some cool covers to show you from the new books right now after the jump.

Check ‘em out!
