Last time on Weekly Link Love we featured some Twitter accounts we love to follow. This week we’re focusing on a different platform and highlighting some Instagram favorites instead.
That’s right, it’s time for another edition of Weekly Link Love. As we’ve said before, this is place where we call attention to websites, blogs, videos, socials (including cool Instagram accounts) or other people & places we think you should know about.
Sure, some may not like Instagram, especially after it was purchased by Facebook. But it still remains one of the best places to showcase your creative work and potentially build a large fanbase. Plus, there’s lot of great artists we admire who show their work on Instagram. So, for us, that makes it a worthwhile platform.
You may have heard of none, some, or all of these Instagram folks. And yes, we know we’ve featured a few of them in previous Weekly Link Love posts, but they’re worth your time so we’re link loving them again!
And, of course, there’s so many more we follow and love. We can’t list them all. This post would be way too long. Instead, these are but a sample.
Okay? Okay. As always, don’t forget to spread the love. Now, on to the links!
Chris Lowell – You know him from Veronica Mars and Glow, but he’s also a great photographer too. Check out his work.
Conor Leslie – Badass superhero on TV’s Titans and badass photographer and person too.
Felicia Day – What can we say? No list of people on Instagram nerd’s love would be complete without this person.
History of Cinema – So many great photos taking you through cinema’s past. A great account, especially if you love movies like we do.
Jack Black – This man has helped us tremendously during quarantine by being damn funny in his own backyard. Thank you Jack.
Jason Momoa – Really needs to explanation. He’s just cool and a great guy.
Kat Swansey – Kat’s photos of rural Texas towns are really exceptional. If you want to experience the “real” Texas, this is the account for you.
Kodak Film – We still love film and still love the way it looks. If you’re a film lover too, this is an account for you.
Marisha Ray – We love Critical Role (obviously) and Marisha is one of our favorite cast members. She’s also a cool human too.
Matt Day – We keep coming back to this guy, but we love his work. If you want to see what excellent photography looks like, check out this man’s Instagram.
Negative Feedback – We’ve learned a lot from this gentleman. He’s a talented photographer and one of the first to extoll the virtues of film on Instagram and YouTube.
Ryan Muirhead – Another photographer who’s work inspires us.
Sam Riegel – If we had to pick a favorite member of the Critical Role team, it would be Sam. Watch the show and you’ll understand why.
Sandy Phimester – Another photographer who’s talent we aspire too. His photos are amazing.
Taika Waititi – We like funny, talented people who make great art that forces you to think a bit too. If you like those things also, check out this person’s Instagram.
Vintage Audio Love – We love analog stuff and this account showcases the best of vintage audio porn.
Wil Wheaton – He’s just this guy, you know?

Happy New Year to one and all! Yes, you can still say that even if it’s already January 11th. A new year and a brand new episode of The Flickcast to start things off right.
Hell, we all need some good things in the world right now, right? So, we’ll do what we can to bring one to you. To start off this first episode of 2021 Chris and Joe get back into it and talk about some old stuff and some new stuff. Some of the old and new stuff includes discussions about the recent Warner Bros./HBO Max deal, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, Justice League, the state of the world and what they’re looking forward to in 2021.
They also talk a bit about what things helped get them through 2020 including 3D printing, Enola Holmes, The Queen’s Gambit and one of Chris’ new favorite shows Ted Lasso. And yes, there’s the usual and ever-present more.
It’s a big show. What better way to kick off a new year? Thanks for listening!

Hello and welcome to a brand new episode of The Flickcast. A pop culture podcast about stuff nerds love. On this week’s show Joe is, unfortunately, away so Chris is joined (once again) by Rick Marshall of Digital Trends to talk about all sorts of amazing things.
Some of these amazing things include the recent HBOMax/Warner Bros announcement, some favorites from all the latest Marvel, Disney and Star Wars news and what they’re looking forward to in 2021. And yes, they also discuss how 2020 wasn’t all bad.
How do they explain “2020 wasn’t all bad”? Well, by highlighting some of the many great movies, tv shows and more that came out during this very difficult year. Hey it’s something, right? It wasn’t all bad, just mostly bad.
It’s a big show with lots going on. Thanks for listening and Happy Holidays!

On this episode Chris and Joe move on from development hell into the virtual Hell-on-Earth often created by visionary director David Lynch. This is the first of a new series where the boys go deep into the work and career of a specific artist and discuss their style, technique and what makes their work resonate with audiences.
Lynch’s films and television achievements include Eraserhead, Dune, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive and the groundbreaking television series Twin Peaks. All of these, and the rest of his work, are characterized by stunning visuals, complex characters, outrageous situations and often stark brutality. He’s been praised as a genius visionary by fans and critics alike and he’s won numerous awards.
His work has been discussed and studied for years with the director himself offering rare information as to what his work means and why he’s presented it the way he has. So what does it all mean, really? Chris and Joe think they’re up to the challenge of explaining it all so, in this first in a series of Deep Dives, they wade in on the films, television and career of David Lynch.
It’s pretty great. Thanks for listening.

It’s a brand new episode of The Flickcast. Still going strong. We’re doing this!
On this episode Chris and Joe get deep into all-things Dune as they discuss the new trailer for the highly anticipated film, casting highlights from the film, Ridley Scott’s Raised By Wolves, the basics of sci-fi films and tv shows, Amazon’s The Boys, the negative effects of not being able to binge watch, cancel culture and, most importantly, the return of Rick Moranis.
They also manage to talk about a certain world event (but just a little), further developments in film and television production and how great it is to see so much Sci-Fi programming these days. Plus, of course, the usual more.

It’s a brand new episode of The Flickcast. We’re still doing this! High fives all around.
Joe is off this week so Chris, and special guest Rick Marshall of Digital Trends, get deep into all-things movies, television and pop culture with discussions ranging from Zack Snyder’s Justice League to parenting during a pandemic to toxic fandom, the future of movies and movie theaters, their first “adult” movie experiences, what they’re watching and looking forward to and a whole lot more.
No really, they talk about a lot of stuff . . . and most of it’s pretty damn interesting. Why not give it a listen?

While this past week had a few fun trailers, unfortunately there wasn’t anything that I’m going to be waiting in line opening night to see. It seems that we have fully transitioned out of the exciting summer films and are now getting prepared for the mediocre releases that didn’t quite make the summer block.
This week we have a couple big budget films that I feel obligated to talk about, a couple smaller indies I’m a little more excited for, and — Moon Nazis!
Real Steel
There was an early teaser that came out for this last year, but this is the first chance that we really get to see the story of this film. On one level you instantly want to dismiss this film as “Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots: The Movie,” sure to be filled with terrible dialogue and cheesy one-liners. But on another level you hope that this interesting premise might actually turn out to be a fresh take on inspiring boxing films.
Hugh Jackman (X-Men, The Prestige) is usually pretty decent in whatever he does, but who I would be most interested to see is Evangeline Lilly in this role, who is most famous as Kate from Lost. Although she was in The Hurt Locker for a bit, this will definitely be her biggest step into features.
While part of me is excited to see some fun robot violence, I feel ultimately this film has to disappoint. Everyone is going to be expecting Transformers quality CGI, but there is no way they had the budget to pull that off. And, I get the feeling that people are going to want this film to have more heart that it will end up having.

Though it was upsetting to see Darren Aronofsky to walk away from helming a reboot of the classic 1980’s sci-fi franchise Robocop, we knew that him working on a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine may be a better fit. Also, we were sure MGM would find someone to take on the half-cop, half-machine.
It looks like that creative team is finally coming together. MGM already announced that foreign action director Jose Padilha will be taking on the role of director for the upcoming film, and now news is coming in that the studio has hired Josh Zetumer to pen the script.
Who exactly is Josh Zetumer? Well from what Deadline has been able to dig up, he looks to be Hollywood’s next big thing, if we ever get to see one of his films.
Zetumer first got on the radar when he wrote the script Infiltrator, which made the Black List. That spy thriller script is set at Warner Bros as a potential starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio.
He also wrote drafts of Dune when Peter Berg was going to direct that remake at Paramount, and he scripted a fourth installment of The Bourne Identity before Universal instead developed a spinoff with Tony Gilroy. Zetumer just turned in Vale, a supernatural action thriller script at Warner Bros.
So while Detroit is still battling with getting their real-life RoboCop statue to kick off, we could be seeing more of this celluloid version very soon. The next question then becomes: who will they get to play protagonist Alex Murphy aka RoboCop? We’re sure to get an answer soon enough.

You have to love the Internets. Things tend to come out or people are more likely to release things these days because they know they will probably end up with a pretty decent sized audience. Recently, we had video of a young Eric Stoltz as the first Marty McFly in Back to the Future and now actress Sean Young brings us video she shot while making David Lynch’s epic, yet flawed, masterpiece Dune.
Shot during 1983 while Young was in production on the film in Mexico, the video shows much of the cast and crew (including co-stars Sting and Kyle MacLachlan) hard at work attempting to realize director Lynch’s vision. If only we could hear what they were saying instead of just seeing them. Oh well, still love the Super 8 camera.
It’s always interesting to watch videos like this and be able to go back and see how things used to be. Plus, insights into a film so many have mixed feelings about are always appreciated. For me, the film was somewhat confusing and a bit of a mess when I first experienced it. But as time has gone on I’ve started to have more of an appreciation for it but haven’t seen it in some time.
This video only serves to spark my interest again. Maybe it’s time for a re-watch? Check out the video after the break.
