That’s right, it’s time for a brand new episode of The Flickcast. The new year just keeps on giving (pretty much).
On this week’s episode Chris and Joe discuss the movie Arrival, Ben Affleck dropping out of directing Batman, M. Night Shyamalan’s career, the curious case of Jeremy Renner, the pleasures of mindless entertainment, the start of the new Han Solo solo movie, who should be the next Doctor and more. Plus, the usual even more. But don’t worry, no politics (mostly).
Beer selections this week include Mosaic IPA from Community Beer Co. for Chris and Gnomegeddon Blonde Ale from Brewery Ommergang for Joe. Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the film Unbreakable and Joe’s pick of the movie The Accountant.

You thought we forgot about you. You thought we weren’t going to have a new episode of The Flickcast and that we’d skipped a week. Well, you were wrong. There’s a new episode and it’s here, now, ready to go. So enjoy.
On this week’s show Chris and Joe talk about the finale of the X-Files, get into the Oscars a little bit, dive into Pacific Rim 2 and it’s new director, jump onto The Flash, dish on Agent Carter and rate the rating of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and other movies that Hollywood thinks should be “R” rated now. Plus, as usual, there’s a whole lot more.
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the cnew Hulu series 11.22.63 and and Joe’s pick of the X-Files new season.

On this week’s show Chris and Joe try to explain the X-Files, talk about Agent Carter, go back to the X-Files for a minute, detour through Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, dive into Joe’s favorite show, The Walking Dead, and finally, get to some Daredevil Season 2. Plus, as usual, there’s a whole lot more.
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the classic Sci-Fi novel Dorsai! by Gordon R. Dickson and and Joe’s pick of Daredevil Season 2.

We hope everyone had a great holiday and took some much deserved time off. We sure did. Now, with all that out of the way, we can get back to doing what we do, well, pretty decently. That’s right, it’s time once again for a brand new episode of The Flickcast.
Yes, we know this one is coming a day late. Sorry.
On this week’s episode Chris and Joe cover many new and recurring topics. Some of these topics include the new Marvel TV series Agent Carter, the new Ant-Man teaser and trailer, the hero qualities of Paul Rudd, DC movie rescheduling (again), the new Star Wars movies and a whole lot more.
Picks this week include Chris’ pick of the classic 1960 sci-fi movie The Time Machine, starring the late Rod Taylor, and Joe’s pick of the Starz series Black Sails, which isn’t the series about pirates that sucks starring John Malkovich. It’s the other one.

Sometimes the anticipation and enthusiasm for a movie can be enhanced by a series of great trailers. Unfortunately, anticipation and enthusiasm an also be killed by bad trailers or ones that just don’t resonate with the audience. Green Lantern is a recent example of this.
Fortunately, we don’t have that problem with the latest trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Summer action blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger. In it we get a better look at the man who is to become Cap and we also get some wise, sage advise from Stanley Tucci’s Dr. Erskine as he tells our hero that “Whatever happens, stay who you are.”
Good advice and a great trailer. This movie continues to look amazing and I can’t wait for it to be released. I’ll be in line before day one if possible.
Check out the trailer after the break. Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22nd.

By now, fans of Captain America have seen the official Super Bowl trailer of the upcoming comic-based flick and even caught a glimpse of the official movie poster, but one thing I’ve been curious about is how the movie would portray the hero’s loyal side-kick, ‘Bucky.’ In a recent interview with director Joe Johnston over at the L.A. Times, it turns out that James “Bucky” Barnes, played by actor Sebastian Stan (“Gossip Girl,” “Kings”), will have a decidedly darker personality than fans of the comic may be used to.
In the interview, Johnston comments on how Bucky’s personality will receive a Hollywood update:
“Sebastian brought something really interesting and slightly on the dark side and really compelling to watch — when he’s on camera, you’re fascinated by watching him. You know, he was originally up for the lead, for the Steve Rogers role, but he didn’t have quite the same earnest, I-want-to-fight-for-my-country aura that Chris has for this role. Sebastian has a little bit of the bad boy, he’s a little bit of the James Dean type and that goes somewhat counter to the general perception of Steve Rogers. He wasn’t quite right for Captain America, but I think he’s perfect for Bucky because, really, he can have a little bit of that dark side.”
Certainly an interesting development and somewhat understandable as the boy-wonder-esque sidekick character is unlikely to be received so readily by an audience in 2011. And it certainly seems that the writing team on ‘Captain America,’ including Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely and Joss Whedon, didn’t merely go part-way when putting their own spin on the duo’s partnership. Instead, they practically reinvented it.

While it may be the ultimate night of TV for sports fans everywhere, the Super Bowl is also the biggest time of the year for great commercials and movie trailers. Some of the biggest upcoming films of the year get seen first during this night, and last night brought us some doozies.
Up first, of course, is the very first footage and trailer for Captain America: The First Avengers. In this 30 second spot, we get some great moments to look forward to, such as Cap (Chris Evans) in full costume, a glimpse at the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), some Stanley Tucci, and some great action shots.
The film is set to release on July 22nd and also stars Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky.
Check out the trailer after the jump. Now that we’ve seen the trailer, what do we think? Sound off in the comments.

OK, so this one on the right isn’t an image from the set of the new Captain America: The First Avenger film, but it looks pretty close. After the jump, check out some actual shots of Captain America from the set of the new film, courtesy of Screen Rant.
The images show off Chris Evans’ stunt double in his classic World War II Captain America garb, and even wearing a fashionable Captain America bike helmet. You know, for safety.
We all hope the costume doesn’t turn out looking like this for the entirety of the film, because let’s face it, it’s pretty terrible, and looks more like the costume from the 1978 Incredible Hulk TV movie, in which Cap basically wore an Evel Knievel outfit.
The cool part of these pics is that we also get a look at some of the H.Y.D.R.A. technology, in the form of their cool steampunk-like motorcycles. We can only imagine what the rest will look like, and we’ll more than likely get a look as the film finishes up principal photography in London.
Captain America: The First Avenger is set to hit theaters July 22, 2011, and also stars Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Stanley Tucci, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sebastian Stan. Check out the full set pics after the jump, and let us know what you think below!

Coming on the heels of Jeremy Renner’s casting as Hawkeye in The Avengers comes some more great Marvel movie news: Stanley Tucci has recently been cast as Dr. Abraham Erskine, the creator of the Super-Soldier serum that turns Chris Evans into the titular character in Captain America: The First Avenger.
From a Marvel Studios press release:
In the early comics, Dr. Erskine was a German scientist behind Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.
“Captain America: The First Avenger” will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.
Not only does this confirm the role for Tucci, but also proves that Marvel is planning on making this film mostly about Steve Rogers’ time before and after taking the Super Soldier serum, rather than his costumed days as Captain America, either during WWII or today.
Tucci joins a heavily growing cast of Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, and Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. Expect more casting news to release soon, as the film is starting shooting in London. Be sure to catch Captain America: The First Avenger in theaters on July 22, 2011.

When it comes to news about Captain America: The First Avenger, we’ve been pretty conservative. It’s hard to not run just about every scoop that passes by our desks, given how excited we are for this film, but considering how early we are in the production, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what is just hopeful speculation.
A few days ago, word first hit the web about the illustrious costume that Chris Evans will be donning as the titular character. It started off as a first-hand account of sketches that they got over at Joblo. Those descriptions turned into a few fan sketches, which then turned into professional renders of the costume from our pals over at AICN. Talk about a collaborative effort.
As you can see after the jump, the costume resembles more of the Ultimates Cap rather than the “wing-eared pirate boots” look that fans knew and loved for nearly a century. The suit looks to be more modern than anything else, which means we could still see the old wing ears in the first half of the film. Given the costumes that Marvel has churned out in other films, we’re quite pleased it’s not black leather.
Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, slated for release on July 11, 2011, is currently shooting in London with Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, and Hugo Weaving as Red Skull.
