New Trailer for Indie Film ‘Bellflower’ Brings the Fire

by Chris Ullrich, Jun 15 2011 // 12:00 PM

We don’t feature enough Indie films around here so to remedy that, I’ve got one for you today that looks especially interesting. It’s called Bellflower and before you snicker and turn away because of the title, you really should watch the trailer.

Here’s some info about the film from the official synopsis:

Best friends Woodrow and Aiden spend all of their free time building Mad Max-inspired flamethrowers and muscle cars in preparation for a global apocalypse. But when Woodrow meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love, he and Aiden quickly integrate into a new group of friends, setting off on a journey of love and hate, betrayal, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies.

Written and directed by Evan Glodell, the film features Jessie Wiseman, Tyler Dawson, Rebekah Brandes, Vincent Grashaw and Evan Glodell. It opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, August 5th.

Check out the trailer to this very interesting film after the jump. You won’t be sorry you did.

New Trailer With Mel Gibson On The ‘Edge of Darkness’

by Chris Ullrich, Oct 15 2009 // 10:00 AM

mel-gibson-1Its been some time since I was interested in a movie featuring Mel Gibson. In the past, his work in movies like Mad Max, We Were Soldiers, Payback, Braveheart and the Lethal Weapon franchise showed that he knows how to play someone on the edge who does what’s necessary to get the job done. Plus, those characters weren’t afraid to kick some ass. Now, as seen in this new trailer for Edge of Darkness, it seems Gibson is returning to the kind of role that made me a fan of his in the first place.

In this new film, written by William Monahan and directed by Martin Campbell, Gibson plays a Boston detective whose daughter is killed when a hit targeted at him goes wrong. Of course, he’s not going to let that one go so he starts his own investigation to determine what happened. Once he digs deeper he discovers a larger conspiracy and that his daughter may have been the target of the hit all along. Plus, I’m sure he probably kicks a bit of ass along the way.

With the caliber of people involved including screenwriter Monahan, who’s recent work on The Departed is top notch, director Campbell who showed his action prowess with Goldeneye and Casino Royale and with Gibson seemingly returning to form in a role showcasing his talents and his dark side, this film looks pretty interesting. Although, it does remind me a bit of Liam Neeson in Taken, which could turn out well for this film seeing as how Taken did quite well.

Edge of Darkness hits theaters next January. Until then, be sure to click through and check out the trailer.

The Flickcast – Episode 19: Beyond Thunderdome

by Joe Gillis, Aug 5 2009 // 8:00 AM

the-road-warriorPreviously on The Flickcast, Chris and Matt were neck-deep in the loving embrace of all things Comic-Con and talked about a whole slew of things with special guest writer/producer Mark Verheiden. Among the topics covered were how Comic-Con has changed over the years, the status of Mark’s various other projects like Ark and Quatermaine, the end of Battlestar Galactica and what, exactly, Starbuck really was.

This week, your favorite trio is reunited as Chris and Matt welcome Christina back to the show. The team wastes no time and jumps right in with discussion and debate on topics including the Seinfeld cast’s upcoming appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ridley Scott signing on to make an Alien prequel, Steven Spielberg’s decision to direct a Harvey reboot as his next film, Apple’s relationship with iPhone developers, John Barrowman’s life after Torchwood, Jon Favreau’s talk of Iron Man 2 and Avengers in 3D and what actor may take on the title role in the next Mad Max film.

The team also chooses some more things to recommend this week including Christina’s pick of AMC’s series Breaking Bad, Matt’s pick of the TV series Leverage and Chris’ pick, the horror/thriller The Collector.

As always, if you have comments, questions, critiques or offers of sponsorship, feel free to hit us up in the comments, on Twitter and at Facebook, MySpace or via email.

Thanks for listening.
