Powers Trailer & New Screens for ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Released

by John Carle, Aug 29 2011 // 8:00 AM

At Comic Con, the Flickcast got our first hands on with X-Men: Destiny to mixed reviews from the team. While the game is still some time away, there lies a lot of potential for the game to take a turn for the better or the worse. When we had the chance to talk to Denis Dyack, who also headed up past projects such as Too Human, it helped sooth some of our concerns. Now, with PAX this weekend, the team at Silicon Knights gives us some further insight into the game with its new Powers trailer and a host of new screen shots.

In the new X-Men: Destiny screens, our main characters Aimi, Grant and Adrian can be seen in costumes different from their original character designs. The most notable are Grant fighting alongside the Juggernaut in similar wardrobe and Aimi who is wearing what looks like a New Mutants style uniform. This could be a sign that over the course of gameplay, certain decisions will not only change the world in front of the characters but the appearance of the characters themselves.

In the Powers trailer below, all three power sets that can be chosen by any of the game’s three characters are seen in action. At Comic Con, we chose the Density Control which used close by rock and asphalt to create a melee focused set, giving players an experience similar to that of the X-Man Rockslide. Energy Projection looks to be more of a sniper class where players will have the opportunity to take out enemies from a distance, playing more like Cyclops. Shadow Matter looks like it combines a mix of the two giving players some distance attacks and other close up enhancements.

Take a look at the trailer and screens below. As always, stick to the Flickcast for more on X-Men: Destiny as it approaches its September 27th release for XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS.

Exclusive: ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Hands On & Developer Interview

by John Carle, Aug 3 2011 // 7:00 AM

Recently, we got the chance to get hands on with X-Men: Destiny for the first time. In our demo we got to check out the first level of the game where we had the opportunity to choose between the game’s three possible protagonists Aimi, Grant and Adrian. When a massive Purifier attack hits downtown San Francisco, the player must also decide on the spot which of the three power sets they would like to equip their character with.

The early level surprisingly has a lot of conversation within it as players meet members of both the X-Men and Brotherhood who are both fighting against the Purifiers. Because of the noise in the Activision event, we couldn’t really hear the dialogue at the time but the gist we got was that both sides were already actively beginning to recruit this new mutant to their side.

X-Men: Destiny plays much like a standard 3D street brawler with the added bonus of mutant powers. There are your basic light, heavy, special and grab attacks along with blocking and dodging mechanics as expected. The gameplay itself was fun but the story possibilities are definitely the most intriguing part for us.

Activision’s ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Gets A New Trailer

by John Carle, Jun 21 2011 // 8:00 AM

The X-Men have potentially been one of the greatest comic book to video game franchises possible. Looking back to the classic arcade days, X-Men was a title that many gamers in their twenties pumped handfuls of quarters into to no end.

After that, pickings were fairly slim until the X-Men Legends games came out, followed by another drought until Wolverine: Origins, one of the few video game movie tie ins that was not only good, but ended up surpassing the quality of the film it was based off of. The X-Men seemingly would be perfect for the video game world with their plethora of both compelling characters and wide variety of powers to play with. But, as seen from title’s like Arcade’s Revenge, not everyone can seemingly get the franchise right.

Take a peek at Silicon Knight’s attempt at the X-Men franchise with X-Men: Destiny. Destiny looks great in motion as all the footage in this trailer is in-engine, not prerendered cut scenes. Each of the characters does a good job capturing the look and feel of the comics, although it is strange that the Juggernaut looks to have almost the same appearance as he did in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, a game not produced by Silicon Knights.

‘X-Men Destiny’ Screens & New Character Aimi Yoshida Gets a Bio

by John Carle, Mar 23 2011 // 9:00 AM

With 2011 flying by already, it is only a matter of time before Activision’s next big superhero release with X-Men Destiny.  As we already discussed, X-Men Destiny will follow players as one of three new characters on their path to mutant destiny.

The first of these characters, Aimi Yoshida is profiled below. From the screens, Aimi looks to be a contemporary take on the classic Japanese school girl look. This seems very appropriate since some of the screens reveal villainous ninjas attacking Aimi and Colossus. It’s also interesting to note that Aimi’s mouth is covered, whether or not this is significant to the character or just a piece of cool character design remains to be seen.

Take a first look below at screens and the profile of Aimi Yoshida from our friends at Silicon Knights.

First In Game Footage In New ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Trailer

by John Carle, Dec 14 2010 // 9:00 AM

It’s been about five years since X-Men Legends II: The Rise of Apocalypse, the last true X-Men game, was released. Since that time, the band of merry mutants has only played second fiddle appearing in other Marvel titles. Now, Silicon Knights, with the writing of Mike Carey, will be tackling the X-Men saga.

In the new trailer below, there is the first reveal of gameplay footage as well as some better hints of the mutants who will actually be featured in the game. These look to be Cyclops, Emma Frost, Quicksilver, Pyro, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Magneto and Surge. The final three look to be the possible characters players can play as.

In the trailer, the first actual gameplay footage is shown very briefly with a young mutant covered in tattoos facing off against a large mutated freak. This could be a reveal that Ink of Young X-Men may be one of the characters playable in the game.

Check back right here for more on X-Men: Destiny as it becomes available.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Launch Trailer

by John Carle, Nov 1 2010 // 11:00 AM

Since we know many of our Flickcast listeners (And some Flickcast writers) aren’t the most athletically inclined, it’s likely not many of you were watching Sunday night football to see the debut of the Call of Duty: Black Ops launch trailer. While Treyarch has come under some criticism for their Call of Duty titles not being as strong as those from Infinity Ward, this has not hurt the anticipation one bit for Black Ops.

From what we’ve seen so far, the game looks to be one of the highest selling Call of Duty releases ever. After this trailer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see those numbers increase even more.

One of the more surprising moments comes about half way through when a former President makes a brief cameo. Be sure to check it out after the jump.

Stay tuned to The Flickcast for a review on Call of Duty: Black Ops as soon as we get our hands on it!

NYCC10: ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Being Penned by ‘X-Men: Legacy’ Writer Mike Carey

by John Carle, Oct 13 2010 // 7:00 AM

It’s been a while since X-Men fans were really able to enjoy their favorite band of merry mutants in a video game that wasn’t part of a “bigger” picture. The last time was back in 2005 with the release of X-Men Legends II: The Rise of Apocalypse. Since then, the only certain X-Men like Wolverine or Cyclops have made their way into other titles like Marvel Ultimate Alliance or Marvel: Rise of the Imperfects. Now, alongside the announcement of the downloadable re-release of the X-Men arcade game comes a teaser for a new X-Men title, X-Men: Destiny.

The game is being written by current X-Men: Legacy scribe Mike Carey who has done a great job focusing on the secondary stories lately for the X-Men on their little island of Utopia, putting a lot of focus on Rogue, Magneto and Gambit as of late. Activision tells us that “The all-new original video game casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny.”

Other than that, details of the game have been few and far between. The teaser below does a great job of hyping a big game but does little in terms of answering questions about it like, most importantly, just what kind of game it will be. Action platformer? Squad based combat? Action RPG? Everything is still up in the air.

Make sure to take a peek at the trailer after the jump and stick to the Flickcast for all news on X-Men: Destiny as it becomes available.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Single Player Trailer

by John Carle, Oct 12 2010 // 7:00 AM

As we mentioned yesterday, there was a reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops single player campaign during the Monday Night Football game between the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings. Due to the late start on the game, it was late in the night when the trailer aired during the game’s third quarter.

And while Brett Favre and the Vikings may have disappointed a lot of people, the trailer sure didn’t. Make sure to take a peek below at the full trailer and give us your thoughts on everything Call of Duty: Black Ops as it gets closer to release.

We have already confirmed with Activision we will be reviewing a copy of the game for the site so keep your eyes peeled for that as well! Check out the full trailer after the break.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Collectors Editions Revealed

by John Carle, Aug 13 2010 // 7:00 AM

If you thought the night vision goggles of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 were a tad extreme, you haven’t seen anything yet. With Call of Duty: Black Ops coming soon, it’s no surprise there are going to be two collectors editions, the Hardened and the Prestige, coming out exclusively for the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

First, the Hardened Edition. With the Hardened Edition, consumers will receive four exclusive multiplayer maps, a Black Ops Avatar costume and a custom Black Ops limited edition medal. Gamestop.com is listing the Hardened Edition for $79.99, the average price for collectors editions of games.

With the Prestige Edition, this is where things get a little crazy. In the Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer trailer, we saw for the first time the RC-XD. The RC-XD is a remote controlled car that not only lets players shoot through levels at blinding speed avoiding enemy fire while relaying video of other parts of the battlefield, it also gives the player a chance to detonate a small bomb at the feet of their opponents.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Multiplayer Teaser Goes Online

by John Carle, Aug 10 2010 // 7:00 AM

As much as the world loves playing through the single player campaign of the Call of Duty series, no one can argue the series’ long term appeal lies in its multiplayer mode. Players can quickly find themselves spending days and days in multiplayer death-match scenarios. With each iteration of the series, the multiplayer has gotten more intense and added various new dimensions to keep it fresh. In Treyarch’s last game Call of Duty: Black Ops, they added the horde -like Zombie mode where an unending supply of Nazi zombies took it to players.

In this new teaser trailer we see that Treyarch looks to be sticking with a more Modern Warfare theme as they introduce new gadgets and weaponry to the mix. The first new tech seen in the trailer is a surveillance camera.

It looks like it will send a black and white feed of what’s going on in front of it to the upper left corner of a player’s HUD. No doubt this will lead to some great in game traps for players as they can set up cameras around their position to prepare to attack incoming forces.

Up next, crossbows. And not just regular crossbows but timed explosive mounted arrow shooting crossbows. While the crossbow is known for being a more silent but deadly weapon, the silence part goes out the window once the bomb attached to it explodes. Thankfully, the person who it blows up on won’t hear a thing as the explosion will most likely remove their ears from the rest of their explosion riddled body.

‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Teaser Trailer Drops

by John Carle, May 3 2010 // 8:00 AM

Activision didn’t waste any time on this one. After Friday’s blockbuster announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops, they have already launched a site for the game as well as its first teaser trailer. Not risking losing sales to their competitors, Gamespot, Best Buy and Amazon are already offering preorders for the game, despite next to no information about it being available except for its November 9th release date.

Below you will get a first look at the action of Call of Duty: Black Ops. From the looks of things, the game will stick to the darker tones set by the story of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Developed by Treyarch, the same studio that did Call of Duty: World at War, Black Ops looks to tell the story of a soldier who has seen a tremendous and treacherous military career. Set in a modern era, inner cities and lush jungles look to be the environments players will fight through. From the looks of things, players will also get the chance to pilot a helicopter and repel down a cliff side as well.

It also appears that the game’s engine has been much improved on as the visuals become even more stunning with fantastic water and explosion effects. The environments seem to react more naturally as well, like the blinds in the office blown up late in the trailer bending and contorting individually or the separate boards of the rope bridge flying apart independently.

Take a look at the full teaser trailer after the jump and as always, stick with us for all your video game news as it becomes available. Remember, by clicking through to watch the video you certify you are eighteen years of age or older.

The Brand New ‘Fable III’ Teaser Trailer

by John Carle, Aug 19 2009 // 3:45 PM

fable 3

Considered by many to be the definitive RPG of the original XBox with the hugely successful sequel on the XBox 360, the Fable franchise is, behind Halo, one of the most beloved exclusives Microsoft has. Earlier today in Cologne, Germany, head of Lionhead Studios and Creative  Director of Microsoft Games Studios, Europe Peter Molyneux announced the next piece of the Fable franchise coming in 2010.

Fable has always been about the moral choices of an individual and how those choices have effected the world around him, whether he chose to be a savior or a tyrant. Now, Fable 3 looks to up the ante as you will see in the game’s first teaser trailer that just hit the Internets.

Check it out after the jump.
