Tim & Eric’s ‘Saints Row’ Commercial, Star Wars Vs. ACDC, & The Skyrim Rap are all On the Radar

by The Flickcast, Nov 11 2011 // 12:30 PM

Welcome to another edition of On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

• We’ve seen some pretty lame posters for movies that already exist, but here are some pretty amazing posters for movies we’ll sadly never see.

• We love Star Wars as much as the next movie site, but when it’s mixed with AC/DC’s best tunes, it is completely mind-blowing.

• Speaking of mind-blowing music, here’s a special look at the recording sessions for the Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary theme.

• Everyone is getting ready for Skyrim to take up their lives for the next few weeks, so why not get this catchy rap stuck in your head getting ready for it?

Amy Smart’s Shamelessness, More Captain America Pics, Baby Darth Vader & More Are All On The Radar

by The Flickcast, Feb 4 2011 // 12:00 PM

Welcome to another edition of  On the Radar where we delve into all corners of the entertainment, tech and geek Internets for news, views and whatnot that may have escaped our regular coverage during the week. Let is know if we missed something interesting.

Let’s get started!

• If you’re not watching Showtime’s Shameless, you should be. And if you need an excuse, how about Amy Smart guest starring as a sexy best friend?

• Set phasers to Feng shui! Turn your bland room into a new world with these killer Star Trek wall decals. Who needs a date when you have a full-sized Commander Uhura wall sticker?

• James Cameron says that Tom Cruise is still a potential star for his upcoming adaptation of the HP Lovecraft book At The Mountains of Madness. No, the irony is not lost on us.

• Reality can be pretty bleak sometimes. The one thing that could splice it up? 80’s and 90’s-era video game characters running amok.

• His mask may not have rubber wings, but here are a ton of new pictures of Chris Evans as Cap in Captain America: The First Avenger.

• Stephen King has had a pretty big week, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving us 10 things he knows about The Stand coming to theaters.

• Finally, something good is coming to TV as Patton Oswalt is developing a series for Fox.

• A 23 year old turned their Dodge Caravan into the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles van. The best part? It was a girl.

• Netflix may be making a buttload of money in the next few months, but they still feel like their too good for Trash Humpers, a film about humping trash.

• New TRON inspired wristwatches are on the way. Say goodbye to the ladies, and hello to the confusion you’ll have when trying to figure out when lunch is.

• Len Weisman has announced that Colin Farrell is at the top of the list to star in a remake of Total Recall. We’d like to see him fit inside of an animatronic fat lady…

• Think Zach Galifiniakis gives the best awkward interview? Think again. This Dallas radio host actually out-awkwards him.

• The plot details for Transformers: The Dark of The Moon have popped up online and no there’s no continuity tie-in to The Wall.

• You asked for it, (or maybe you didn’t). Either way, here’s the list of the Top 10 Most Ridiculous Character-Branded Products.

• If you find yourself asking if a poster would be too nerdy to put in your room…Chances are you probably know the answer.

• If you caught last night’s Community, then you’re most definitely going to want to go back and read the Twittersodes leading up to the airing. Trust us.

• In prepping for his epically animated Owl Fighting movie, Zack Snyder admits that he had people dress up in owl suits to choreograph the fight scenes.

• Katy Perry recorded a spoof of her song and sang it alongside Elmo on Sesame Street. The song was immediately pulled from the episode before airing. What’s the world coming to when a girl can’t sing about kissing other girls on a show with Muppets?

• A student dressed like The Hulk smashed a car and is now getting in trouble for it. The real crime? The fact that there wasn’t a camera rolling the entire time.

• We love robots, but we can’t stop simultaneously laughing and shaking our heads when we watch this video.

• Here’s some of the coolest looking custom consoles we’ve never seen. Jealous? Hell yes.

• Apparently, girls were pissed at the director of The Human Centipede during casting when they read the script. Are we surprised? No. Have you seen the movie?

• Quentin Tarantino will get his very own Friar’s Club Roast. It’s certainly a better idea than Flava Flav or Hasselhoff. Although, that Hoff one was pretty damn funny.

• Football could have something to do with everyone in the country Tivo’ing this year’s Oscars. What?

• In case you were wondering (or worried about your own problem) here’s a list of the 12 heaviest drinkers in the history of TV. Not on the list? It’s probably because you’re not famous and nobody cares.

• Megan Fox is out of Transformers 3. Who will take her place? Heidi Montag or Ben Kingsley? Your guess is as good as ours.

• Speaking of replacing Megan Fox (only in the movie, not in our hearts) it looks like it may actually be this Victoria’s Secret model. Wonder what she had to wash to get the part?

• Patton Oswalt + Firefly + Comics = a nerdgasm the likes of which we’ve never seen.

• Who wouldn’t want to watch a video about Gwyneth Paltrow’s Shrimp Taco? There’s no further explanation necessary.

• Ever wonder what video games your favorite porn stars like to play? Well, wonder no more.

• What the hell is going on with Owen Wilson’s career? Pajiba breaks it down for us.

• NBC Exec Jeff Zucker runs a once-great network into the ground, and then gets a $30 million severance package. Ain’t life sweet?

• Finally, a comprehensive list of The Best and Worst Vampires in Film History…take that, shiny Robert Pattinson!

The Flickcast’s ‘On the Radar’

by Bob Starr, May 14 2010 // 4:00 PM

This week On the Radar bring a whole slew of new and interesting stuff. Let us know if we missed anything.

• The Flickcast’s own Elisabeth Rappe reports from the set of Jonah Hex (for another site but we don’t care, we love her).

• James Cameron says 3D will replace 2D soon. Yes, but when will substance replace style?

• True Blood gets a comic book. At least that’s better than a Lady Gaga comic. . . oh, wait.

• Heroes to get the axe? Isn’t it about time, really? The show has pretty much sucked sense Season One.

• Judge Dredd is returning to the big screen. He is the law, dammit!

• Some guys made a Mega Man movie. Why? Why the hell not?

• Hayden Christensen to help rip off The Da Vinci Code in The Genesis Code. But what about the younglings?

• Michael Bay says the Racist Robots will be banished from Transformers 3. On a related note, Michael Bay is a liar.

The Flickcast’s ‘On the Radar’

by Bob Starr, Feb 26 2010 // 4:02 PM

This was a big week for news, especially of the comic book movie variety. Surprisingly, even with all that coming out we still have even more items worth talking about on the radar. Batman beats Superman…again, a Star Wars character makes a bid for a mascot job, MGM is still looking for money, Brian De Palma may get paranormal and what cities will Michael Bay reign destruction upon next?

Batman trumps Superman on the auction block

Looks like Batman wasn’t content with beating Superman at the box office, he had to do it at an auction as well. The 1939 first appearance of The Dark Knight sold for a whopping $1,075,500. This beats Superman’s first appearance in comics which sold for 1 million. Sorry, Supes…but, hey, you did land an awesome writer for your upcoming reboot.

Blockbuster struggles to remain relevant in the digital age

Video rental store Blockbuster continues an uphill battle to compete against digital alternatives.  The brick-and-mortar business reported a “$435 million in the fourth quarter, compared with $360 million in red ink in the year-ago frame. Revenue dropped 18% to $1.1 billion.” As companies like Netflix and Redbox continue to steal market share some believe Blockbuster has some merit left:

“The drying up of retail competition from the ongoing closures of most Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video stores; major studios aren’t making their new releases immediately available to Redbox; and Warner Bros. will begin a 28-delay before giving Netflix access to new-release DVDs.”

Personally, I don’t see a rebound at this point and beyond the legit competition Blockbuster still has piracy to content with. Is this the end? We’ll see.
