SDCC 11: La La Land Records Plans Future ‘Star Trek’ TV Soundtrack Releases

by Jonathan Weilbaecher, Jul 22 2011

Here at Comic-Con in San Diego La La Land Records just released a brand new limited edition 3-disc set featuring music from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The set looks fantastic, and I for one can’t wait to sit down with it after the show.

But now the masterminds at La La are already thinking about their next Trek TV release.

“We plan on definitely doing at least one more volume of this, we have left overs from this. And Deep Space Nine will probably come next,” says MV Gerhard of La La Land Records.

“Of all the shows, I think that was probably the best of the series, of the new stuff, and also very neglected in previous release”

So provided the sales for the first Star Trek set are good, and so far they are looking that way, we should be looking at a Deep Space Nine set next. This is particularly exciting news for fans of the series who have long clamored for a release of the stellar music composed for Deep Space Nine.

The Trek TV fun might not even stop there, with all of the Trek shows on La La Land’s radar we could be seeing sets like these coming out for a while, and it wont be just Trekkies that benefit from that.

I know many people put it down but I would also like to see an Enterprise release.  Same composers for the most part.  There’s only 1 Enterprise CD and that’s from Broken Bow.  Of course, somebody should also do the remaining scores from the original series.  This is a no brainer to me.  Surely the music exists somewhere?  I know Trek fans would pay for it.  Trek music rocks!  As for DS9, yes, it could be better represented than it is.  Nothing is as recognizable as the old school fight music from the original but the new Trek scores (which aren’t new anymore!) and – I mean all four series here – are every bit as wonderful in their own way.  Slightly less dynamic maybe.  If it hasn’t been recorded before, then it should be!  I’d like to see the climax to First Contact perhaps in a deluxe edition soundtrack and any Vic tunes or hell even a Klingon boxed set.  I know the stuff is pricey but that Ron Jones set and this latest one are top-notch.  Maybe a season by season release?  Spread the financial damage out over time?  Let me know.  I’ll be there!  LL and P.

I’d love it if they included moments from the scores from the Dominion battle from Sacrifice of Angels and Jadzia’s death in Tears of the Prophets…. Our Man Bashir, His Way, Far Beyond The Stars…….So many brilliant soundtracks on DS9 its hard to pick any.. not even counting any of the recognisable Vic Fontaine songs.

If you loved the Vic Fontaine stuff, the actor who played him released an album of lounge songs including all of the songs he sung on Deep Space Nine. It is a classy CD, I recommend looking it up!
