If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Apple’s iPad complete with 3G capability, then today is your day. Apple will release the HSPDA radio version of the iPad and it will be available in stores starting at 5PM.
In case you didn’t know, the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will set you back an additional $130.00 over the non-3G version with prices ranging from $629, $729 to $829 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. Not only that, in order to take advantage of that 3G feature, you’ll need to fork over money to AT&T for a data plan. Prices on those are either $14.99 for 250MB of data or $29.99 for the unlimited plan.
At least this data plan is contract-free, so that’s not completely lame. Still, the thought of giving AT&T any money for their, at least in our experience, crappy 3G service isn’t something we’re thrilled about. Probably going to stick to our Wi-Fi iPads for now and wait for 4G instead. But you go ahead and get a 3G iPad, don’t let us stop you.
If you do, hit us in the comments and let us know how it works out.
