Massive 2012 Horror Movie Preview Part 1: Vampires, Ravens, & Innkeepers

With the plethora of horror genre infused films this year, movie goers are in for an explosion of multifaceted cinema experiences.

From a variety of novel adaptations mixed with dark fantasy elements to entities in the form of haunted objects and locations, there will be much to choose from for the gore connoisseur.

January 13, 2012 – Don’t Go in the Woods

Don’t go in the Woods (Distributed by Tribeca Film) is yet another youth thriller centering on a band. Heading out to a cabin for rest, recreation, and creative inspiration, this group receives more than they bargain for.

January 20, 2012 – Underworld: Awakening

(Distributed by Sony Screen Gems) is the fourth in the franchise in a world of vampires and lycans’ existence has been discovered by man-kind. These forces must ban together to fight a common enemy in the biggest struggle for both species.

February 3, 2012 – The Woman in Black

(Distributed by CBS Films) A young lawyer sorting the affairs of a deceased client; unwittingly stumbles upon the village secret. The vengeful a ghost of a woman that will not allow the peaceful village rest.

The Innkeepers

(Distributed by Magnolia Pictures) centers around the final days of the Yankee Peddler Inn. Two employees try their hand at amateur ghost hunting in an attempt to uncover the mysteries of the haunted building. During this time, odd guests check in to the hotel, as strange events coincide with their arrival.

February 24, 2012 – Gone

(Distributed by Summit Entertainment) Jill returns home to find her sister is missing.  Believing this is an act of revenge by the same man who kidnapped her two years, she sets out to find her missing sibling as the authorities are unwilling to believe her.

March 9, 2012 – Silent House

(Distributed by Open Road Films) Based on the 2010 Uruguayan film ‘La Casa Muda’ details a young woman returning to her childhood home in order to assist her father with preparing it for sale.  She slowly descends into madness as she begins hearing strange sounds and is reminded of the house’s dark past.

The Raven

(Distributed by Relativity Media) with a string of murders which seem to draw inspiration for the stories of Poe, this film chronicles the author’s last days and his involvement in the murder investigation as he is called upon to assist with catching the culprit.

Playback (Distributed by Magnet Entertainment) Students view a recorded murder and unwittingly become the playthings of a dark force which threatens to destroy their town.
