Just in case you’re not aware, BBC America has other shows besides Doctor Who and Torchwood. Although those two are great, another drama is making some waves across the pond as well and that drama is Robin Hood. Its a fun program with lots of action, solid performances, interesting characters and humor which make it a great way to spend your time — especially if you’re looking for a break from a contemporary setting, sci-fi, time travel or monsters.
Apparently, I’m not the only Robin Hood fan out there because its been given a third season on the network. Here’s all the info from the official press release.
BBC AMERCA’s hit revival of Robin Hood returns for a bigger, bolder third season of action-adventure. Toby Stephens (Die Another Day, Jane Eyre) and David Harewood (The Vice, The Palace) join the cast of Jonas Armstrong (Teachers, The Ghost Squad), Richard Armitage (MI-5, North & South), and Keith Allen (Bodies, The Others) as Robin continues to outwit the dastardly Sheriff and his forces—but Robin’s not the same crusader he once was. Since the death of Marian, Robin’s in a downward spiral fuelled by anger and grief – he can think of nothing but revenge.
Meanwhile, a wave of corruption and evil has been sweeping the land. Luckily, a mysterious new ally in the form of a traveling monk, Tuck (Harewood) arrives just in time to get the hooded hero back on track. This season holds incredible twists and turns—take nothing for granted!
Season three kicks off when Robin and his gang of outlaws return from the Holy Land. But now that he’s back, Robin wastes no time – Marian’s murderer, Guy of Gisborne (Armitage), is a marked man. Robin immediately breaks with his followers, and races to Locksley Manor to avenge her death. Once there, he confronts Gisborne but does Gisborne care if he lives or dies? After all, Marian was the only woman he loved and his only hope.
Armstrong talks about the darker, tougher Robin Hood, hell bent on avenging his wife’s tragic end, “Robin’s back from the Holy Land but without Marian, the beat of his life. He’s questioning everything he ever lived for. Now it’s pay back time, and he’s become obsessed with killing Gisborne. It’s great to bring Robin back a darker, more mature hero and fans will see that once he’s come to terms with his personal loss, he’s a stronger more powerful force than ever before.”
Meanwhile, the wickedness of the Sheriff (Allen) continues unabated – he’s sold the local men to fight a foreign war. When a feisty Locksley girl, Kate (Joanne Froggatt, Life On Mars), objects to her brother’s forced conscription, she inadvertently gets caught up in the cause of Robin Hood and becomes an indispensable member of the gang.
The third season also brings an unexpected addition when Gisborne’s little sister, Isabella (Lara Pulver), unexpectedly arrives to further complicate the lives of both Robin and Gisborne. And, as the threat of Prince John (Stephens) looms larger, Robin and Gisborne reach an uneasy truce. They soon realize they may have more in common than they thought.
Robin Hood, season three, premieres Saturday, September 12, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on BBC America.

December 8, 2009 at 1:04 pmThe man that played the envoy and later the Sheriff’s (Keith Allen) aide looks so familiar, can’t find a credit for him anywhere. Anyone know who he is?

December 7, 2009 at 11:33 amReally Sad to see my favorite show cancelled. Have always been a real Robin Hood fan. Sad to see that he was killed off to at the end. I am just hoping that this was just a ploy to say he was dead and as his men carry him off into Sherwood that it would flush out Prince John and his followers and that King Richard would show up and all of Sherwood and Robin would rise and conquer Prince John…Since the show was Cancelled, I guess we will never know and we will be left hanging for another day. Loved the show and it will be missed from my American TV..

November 29, 2009 at 1:51 pmThe current Robin Hood series has been a shining star in BBC programming and really, programming here in the States as well.
Although the story line at times seemed to really stretch the legend both my husband and I enjoyed the creative twist and new characters. We also appreciated the authentic aspect regarding the appearance of many characters and the settings. Sometimes I wonder if viewership dwindled because people didn’t know when it returned after a “season break”.
And, oh well here it goes –as a child I enjoyed the Robin Hood series created during the fifties and I’m am thus sad to say, if it takes another 50 years to produce the legend again, the current production well be the last I’ll ever see. On the bright side, this means my viewership will go out in great style.
Thanks BBC for a quality production.

November 9, 2009 at 10:49 amWhat has happened to our favorite show? We watch it as a family and last and this past weekend was such a disappointment. It has been the best show ever. Our son, pointed out that Robin never shot a man in the back and killed him in the past…. He he is not stupid to realize that his best friend is in love with Kate. Too much drama… you are doing to this show… what America did to the Vegas series. Too much of too much. It’s a little weird feeling sorry for Gisborne.
Okay, how about this… it’s all been a dream and Marian and the gang awake still tied up in the desert? What happened by the way to the old sheriff? we missed one…

September 24, 2009 at 6:01 pmThough a 6th generation Texan, my ancestors are all from the UK, Wales, England, Scotland and some Scots-Irish. So it’s easy to be a fan of this show. It took a while to forget the Errol Flynn type Robin Hood for this spindley, modish, decidely unatheletic Robin, but it finally came. He doesn’t even run well!! It’s a good show and thankfully we now have BBC America to relieve us from our American TV, after a fashion. We finally have more than waiting for Sunday night’s Masterpiece Theatre as our only decent TV in this country!! Three cheers for BBC America and Robin Hood. We are Robin Hood!
