Last week, we brought you news that Samuel L. Jackson and Twilight star Kellan Lutz were joining a new sci-fi action project titled Deathgames, from the studio Motion Picture Corporation of America. It seems like the fanboy-friendly names weren’t stopping there, as Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim is now joining the cast.
The film is an interesting take on old gladiator tales, with a bit of science fiction and thriller elements thrown in for flavor. Heat Vision gives the scoop:
The story centers on a young man (Lutz) who is kidnapped by a sadistic mastermind (Jackson) and forced into a modern gladiator arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses.
Kim is playing a fellow prisoner, an artist who happens to be a master of kendo (samurai-style sword fighting), a skill that comes in handy when he competes for his life and his wife’s.
Jonah Loop, a visual effects supervisor on such pics as “Collateral” and “A Perfect Getaway,” is making his directorial debut with the film, which begins shooting next month in Louisiana.
Kim, much like the rest of the cast of Lost, hasn’t had much time to work on very large projects, as the show shoots on a remote location in Hawaii, and getting back and forth isn’t exactly easy after full days of shooting.
Fans of Kim remember his geek cred dating before Lost, as he played one of the evil lawyers from Wolfram & Hart on Joss Whedon’s Angel over the span of 2 years. Kim is also slated to star as Detective Chin Ho Kelly in CBS’ reboot of Hawaii Five-O.
