Cortney’s TV Digest: What’s On In February

February is in full swing, so I’m taking a break from freezing my butt off in upstate NY and conjugating Spanish verbs to bring you this month’s TV Digest. With all the snow that’s been plaguing the US and the winter movie slump in full swing, it’s great to have some excellent tv to watch. Look no further than here, dear readers, as I’ve got everything you need to check out on the tube in February.

Top Shot (History Channel)

Those of you who read my TV Digest regularly will know I’m not too big on reality tv. But man, I LOVE Top Shot. 16 contestants, including expert sharp-shooters, award-winning rifleists, and former U.S. miliary from around the country compete for $100,000 and the coveted title of Top Shot.

The show is a blast to watch every week, between the history you get about each rifle and challenge, the skill exhibited by the competitors, and of course the usual reality tv drama. Top Shot airs on the History Channel Tuesdays at 10.

Being Human (SyFy)

As someone who’s a bit tired of all the vampire/werewolf overload in the media lately, I wasn’t too interested in Being Human. I was sorely mistaken. While it’s got the usual blood-sucking, wolf howling of True Blood, Being Human has none of the ridiculous elements of the Twilight series.

The show is based around Aidan, a werewolf, and Josh, a vampire, who decide to move in together in order to control their supernatural urges and, well, be more human. Being Human is a new show this season, and airs Mondays at 9 on SyFy.

Greek (ABC Family)

I know what you might be thinking, but I just started watching this show and I’ve become a big fan. Greek is more than just the day-to-day goings on of frat and sorority life. It’s got a lot of heart, and a lot of perspective on college life, relationships, and friendships. If you’re a fan of Veronica Mars I’d recommend Greek to you, just because it’s got a similar feel and very similar characters. The final semester of Greek is on ABC Family Monday nights at 9.

The Office (NBC)

This used to be my favorite comedy on television, but unfortunately I find The Office to now be one of the weaker shows in NBC’s Thursday night lineup. So why am I telling you to watch it? Well, if you haven’t heard, Steve Carrell will be leaving the show, and his much-loved character Michael Scott, behind, and this will happen before May sweeps.

Until then, we’ll be seeing various guest stars, all vying for Michael’s position as Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin. Whether or not The Office will be successful upon Carrell’s departure remains to be seen, but it’ll sure be interesting to see who they get to replace him. The Office is on Thursdays at 9.
