The LEGO franchise is massive and it goes way beyond the simple building blocks of yesteryear. Between the immensely popular video games, the animated TV Shows and the ancillary merchandise, LEGO as a franchise is as big as any there is. There is only one arena yet to conquer… the cinemas.
So of course a LEGO movie is in the works, and this is not new news. What is new however, is some casting news out of Variety that reveals a pair of do-gooders set to make an appearance in the film:
Casting is currently underway, as Chris Pratt (“Parks and Recreation”) is set to voice the pic’s lead character, while Will Arnett will voice the role of Lego Batman.
Helmers are courting their “21 Jump Street” star Channing Tatum to voice Superman, though he has not committed due to his busy schedule, which includes Sony’s “White House Down,” Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher,” a big-budget sci-fi pic from the Wachowski siblings and a “Jump Street” sequel.
Will Arnett cast as LEGO Batman and Channing Tatum being courted to play LEGO Superman? Yes, please! There is no word on the size of these roles, but even in a cameo capacity this proves the movie has the right sense of humor about itself.
This project has jumped very high on The Flickcast‘s radar, be sure to check back here for any more exciting updates on this project as they break.
