Dinosaurs Are So Out As Fox Cancels ‘Terra Nova’

After 3 decades of having a pretty solid streak in the realm of science fiction, Steven Spielberg has finally hit a dud with his very expensive show Terra Nova. Fox has decided to not renew the sci-fi series about a civilization that saves their future by going to the past, or an alternate universe…we’ll never find out.

THR says that while the show may be over on Fox, there still may be hope on a different network.

The news comes as Fox has an increased roster of hourlong dramas, including J.J. Abrams’ Alcatraz and Kiefer Sutherland-Tim Kring’s Touch, and heavy hype surrounding its drama development. Given Terra Nova’s international appeal, however, its studio, 20th Century Fox TV, will attempt to shop the big-budget series to other networks.

‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ Means End For CBS’ New Drama ‘Quean’

It looks like CBS’ drama pilot Quean is over before it began. According to inside sources at Warner Bros TV, which produces the project with Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures, the decision has been made to pull the plug upon the advice of an outside legal firm.

Quean was supposed to be a crime procedural which centers on an edgy and independent hacker girl who teams up with a police detective to solve crimes. The pilot secured Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Orphan) as director, was written by The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken, and was moving to the casting stage when Warner Bros TV received a letter from Sony Pictures threatening a lawsuit over alleged similarities to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

‘Assassin’s Creed III’ Will Be The First In The Franchise To Be Developed For A Nintendo Home Console

One of the main issues Nintendo has faced in the second half of it’s Wii lifespan is a disturbing lack of major third party titles. The graphics limitations of the Wii, coupled with the unique control scheme makes it difficult for developers to incorporate the Nintendo console as a platform for their marquee titles.

Ubisoft has just announced that the new Nintendo console, the Wii U, will be one of the consoles their new, and highly anticipated, title will be playable on. Assassin’s Creed III could open the flood gates of other third party marquee titles making their way toward Nintendo.

Ubisoft has been on the forefront of third party partnership with the Wii U since the announcement at last year’s E3. They showcased Ghost Recon playable on the system and have been participating in Nintendo events showcasing the Wii U features. The real test for Nintendo will be if they can lure other high profile developers, but getting their hands on Ubisoft’s biggest franchise will go a long way in that goal.

Assassin’s Creed III sees a major change in the series as it advances the time frame up to the American Revolution and takes place on this side of the pond. The game will feature a new protagonist, this time of partial native american decent, which should be the source of some interesting aesthetic tweaks this go around.

Monday Picks: ‘Robocop’

This week’s Monday Pick is the 1987 Sci-fi action film Robocop, directed by master filmmaker Paul Verhoeven (Total Recall, Starship Troopers, Flesh & Blood, Soldier of Orange, The Black Book). Peter Weller stars as slain police officer Alex Murphy who is brought back to life by corporate scientists to become the ultimate law enforcement weapon in the crime-ridden Detroit of the near future.

Robocop is not only a well made solid blend of sci-fi and action, Verhoeven and writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner splendidly poke fun at many institutions in American culture like the media, corporate greed, privatization, capitalism, and even masculinity.

OCP (Omni Consumer Products) is a vast corporation that specializes in space exploration, civilian and Military technology, and government intervention. OCP enters into an agreement to run and finance the Detroit police force in order to serve its needs, one being that OCP plans to turn Detroit into the city of tomorrow known as Delta City due to rampant crime and that the city is on the verge of financial collapse.

People Love Train Wrecks: Lindsay Lohan’s ‘SNL’ Scores Second Highest Ratings of the Season

To say that people love celebrity train wrecks would be a bit of an understatement. The existence and popularity of shows like Celebrity Rehab, Kim & Kourtney Take New York, and every other reality on VH1 should prove above anything else that schadenfreude is at an all-time high.

That means that when the mother of all modern celebrity horror stories, Lindsay Lohan, hosts a live, anything-can-happen style comedy show, people are bound to tune in to see exactly what would and could go wrong. It turns out enough people tuned in for the episode to break a few records for the year, sadly. From THR:

Despite critics ripping apart Lohan’s fourth time hosting the late-night comedy sketch show, last night’s SNL delivered the show’s highest-scoring regular performance of the season, with a 5.5 overnight household rating.

First Full ‘Men In Black 3’ Trailer Arrives

As we’re constantly bombarded with all sorts of new movies, TV shows and the like it’s sometimes hard to muster enthusiasm for what seems like just another reboot, remake, retread or sequel. We’re worried, of course, that the makers of said project are just in it to cash in and make as much money as possible without really worrying too much about things like characters, story or doing a good job.

Fortunately, there’s a few times where after looking at a trailer for an upcoming reboot, remake or sequel, it seems just the opposite is true and the people involved do care and have made something good. Men In Black 3 seems to be one of those cases.

There was a teaser for the film last December and now the first theatrical trailer for it is out and we have to say it looks pretty darn good. Back in action are Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as the eponymous J and K as well as a new twist, Josh Brolin as the 1969 version of Tommy Lee Jones’s character after Smith’s J goes back in time to prevent an alien invasion that could destroy the planet.

Take a look at the trailer after the break and judge for yourself. We think this is going to be big. Look for Men In Black 3 to hit theaters on May 25.

‘The Killing’ Star Joel Kinnaman To be the Next Robocop

Robocop is finally getting an upgrade. After months of rumors,  it looks like MGM has finally found their leading man for the upcoming Robocop remake. With potential stars ranging from Michael Fassbender to Russell Crowe, they finally decided on Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman to play the cyborg police officer.

According to Deadline.com, MGM has made an official offer to Kinnaman, who is best known for his roles in AMC’s The Killing and in the Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds thriller Safe House.

In the ultra-violent 1987 original, Peter Weller played officer Alex J. Murphy, who is brutally gunned down in the line of duty. In this futuristic version of Detroit, crime has gotten out of control and the normal police can’t stop the criminals. After the privatized police department resurrects him as a half-man, half-machine cop, Murphy is haunted by his human memories while facing both a sadistic criminal syndicate, as well as a corrupt corporate board.
