Productions Art Surfaces For ‘Thor’ & ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’

With San Diego Comic-Con kicking off in mere hours, you can expect to see plenty of news in the film, TV, and maybe even comic book world make it’s way across the internets. In the meantime, we’ve got a brand new look at two of Marvel’s next upcoming projects in Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Brand new production concept art have been released for both films, which will be given away during Comic-Con at the Marvel booth. Each image shows off the main character in an epic battle sequence that, hopefully, we’ll get to see flushed out on the big screen in a matter of months.

The first shows off Chris Evans in his Captain America uniform, on the battlefield, shield in tow, deflecting bullets and taking names. This is the first new image we’ve seen of Evans (even though its a render) in the new Cap costume.

The second image gives us a tease of an epic battle sequence happening between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tim Hiddleston’s Loki, as they no doubt will duke it out in in the final act of the film. If this image is any indicator, we can expect Thor to be as majestic and action-packed as it’s source material.

If you’re headed to San Diego this week, grab a copy of each at Marvel’s BoothCheck out both images for yourself after the jump, catch Thor in theaters on May 6th and Captain America: The First Avenger on July 22nd, 2011.

If you’re an HTC Incredible user then this info is for you. According to an article at The Boy Genius Report, the Incredible is expected to get the brand new Android OS 2.2 (code name Froyo) in August. This information, taken from an email sent in by a tipster, goes into detail about the update and what users can expect from it.

Take a look below at the email and see if you believe what’s being said.

I wanted to pass along that the upcoming Incredible MR will also include Froyo (originally it was going to be two separate MRs). We are targeting the end of the month/first part of August. As a reminder, below are the highlights:
• Froyo
• 802.11 n
• 3G Mobile Hot Spot
• HTC Widget: Email
• HTC Widget: News
• EAS Updates
• 720p Video Recording
• Amazon MP3

If ultimately true, this update is very good news for current Incredible owners. these are features they will certainly all want to have as soon as possible. Of course, this means the rumored OS update that was supposed to roll out last weekend was either untrue or was halted to make ready for this improved one.

New Trailer for ‘Sharktopus’ Brings the Awesome

Most of the time we take our movie watching pretty seriously here at The Flickcast. We go to film festivals or seek out the best in studio and independent films full of intricate plots, complex characters and inventive dialog. In short, we usually like our films be great and also say a little something too.

However, that doesn’t mean we want our films to be serious all the time. Enter Sharktopus. By any stretch of the imagination this particular movie probably doesn’t have much in the way of seriousness behind it nor an intricate plot, complex characters or innovative dialog. What it does have is awesome campy action and loads of fun, as you will see from the trailer for it we’ve got for you today.

The trailer, which first appeared at The Live Feed, gives us everything we need to know about the movie and tells us it demands a late night viewing in a room full of friends with popcorn (and perhaps beer) in abundance. In fact, this would make an excellent late night double feature with Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, once the latter is released. Hey, a man can dream.

Sharktopus stars Eric Roberts and Sara Malakul and is produced by Roger Corman. It airs on Syfy later this year. Check out the trailer after the jump.

DirectTV Rescues ‘Damages’

I will have to admit that I’ve not watched the FX series Damages very much. In truth, I’ve only seen the first few episodes. However, that hasn’t stopped the show from being a hit with many fans.

Unfortunately, that number of fans wasn’t enough for FX to keep the show on the air another season and it was officially canceled. But wait, there’s good news if you love the show. According to Deadline, the ratings-challenged show has been rescued by DirecTV. What does this mean? Well, count on Glenn Close, Rose Byrne and other major cast members being on board for two more seasons (20 episodes) of the Emmy-nominated show.

In addition, the satellite company is also picking up the rights to air seasons one through three so fans will get a chance to experience the series in its entirety all on one network. This deal will be different than DirecTV’s previous pickup of NBC’s canceled Friday Night Lights in that, unlike that show, Damages will only air on the satellite network and not on NBC as well.

Expect more episodes of Damages to being airing on DirecTV next year.

Joss Whedon’s ‘Dollhouse’ Is Back . . . As a Comic From Dark Horse

We were all sad when Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse was canceled by Fox. Sure, the series had some problems and kinda got lost mid season one, but it came back strong and finished in true Whedon fashion.

Obviously, some mysteries still remained after the series ended. One of the biggest was what happened between the episodes “Epitaph One” and “Epitaph Two.” Fortunately, the folks at Dark Horse have us covered and are releasing a brand new comic called Epitaphs that will bridge the gap and tell that previously unknown story.

Here’s the official synopsis from Dark Horse:

Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, joined by longtime Buffy the Vampire Slayer artist Cliff Richards, take us on an intricate trip through the precise moment when the Active technology went global, and how the protagonists from Epitaph One and Two narrowly avoided death, and worse.Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen wrote the Epitaph episodes of Dollhouse Seasons One and Two, and currently write for the Starz series Spartacus. This is their first work in comics. Artist Cliff Richards has drawn more Joss Whedon-related comics than any other artist, including issues of Buffy Season Eight.

The limited edition Dollhouse comic will come with the season 2 DVD and Blu-ray of the show, set for release on October 12th. It was written by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen who will also be attending this week’s Comic-Con in San Diego for a signing at the Dark Horse booth.

If you’re attending Comic-Con, you can pick up your copy of season two packaged with this limited edition comic starting on Wednesday during Preview Night and running through Sunday. Or, just go out and buy the box set when you can. Check out the full cover for the comic after the break.

Steven Moffat to Helm New ‘Sherlock’ Miniseries

Current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat is now giving us his interpretation of history’s most famous detective. No, not Batman, but Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s own Sherlock Holmes. On BBC’s Sherlock, Moffat is giving us a modernized version of Sherlock Holmes’ exploits as he searches for a serial killer who makes his murders look like suicides.

The series remains true to the more iconic details from the original books. Holmes and Watson still live on 221b Baker Street and all the characters have the same names. The glaring difference is that the series is set in contemporary London rather than the late 19th century.

The miniseries is set to star Benedict Cumberbatch (The Other Boleyn Girl) as Holmes and  Martin Freeman, who you may remember as Jim from the British version of The Office, as Watson. This project is co-created by Mark Gatiss, writer and actor in various British series including Doctor Who and The League of Gentlemen.

The first episode of the three part series will air on July 25 on the UK’s BBC1 and BBC HD. No premiere date has been announced for the United States, but the show is expected to air on PBS as part of its Masterpiece series.

Between this news and the success of Robert Downey Jr.’s popular film franchise, could we be looking at a resurgence of interest in the classic detective? Can other classics be far behind?

Check out the trailer for this new series after the jump.
