Kickstarter Watch: ‘Truly Outrageous: A Jem Fan Film’

by John Carle, Jan 23 2016

Jem Fan Film

The recent Jem & The Holograms feature film is not what anyone would call successful. With an estimated $5,000,000 budget and a worldwide gross of only $3,000,000 it could be argued that the team behind the film really missed the point. That’s exactly what the all girl YouTube group known as CreatureTubes felt when they released a Jem Reacts video with the original cast reacting to the new feature film.

After a positive response to their video (and likely more viewers than the movie garnered, the group decided to take a step in a positive direction and instead of looking at what didn’t work and focus on creating what they feel should have been the Jem film. But since no studio is going to touch that property for a good decade, the girls are turning towards Kickstarter to make it happen.

Having just launched and hitting 10% of their $12,000 goal in their first day, the girls are ultimately looking to fund the entire project with a full 30 minute short inspired by the original 1980’s cartoon pop princess. Friends of Whiskey & Waffles (and thus friends of the Flickcast), the girls of Creaturetubes are a collection of writers, actresses, singers, producers and directors who have already produced a number of YouTube hits both on their own channel and with others. The film will also star the likes of Chloe Dykstra and Gabe Hohreiter with a number of other cameos promised to be announced throughout the campaign.

Make sure to check out their Kickstarter here if you’re interested in learning more about their campaign and contributing to it. Their fan film is inspired by the original series and not based around the recently released feature film or the IDW Comic.
