People Love Train Wrecks: Lindsay Lohan’s ‘SNL’ Scores Second Highest Ratings of the Season

To say that people love celebrity train wrecks would be a bit of an understatement. The existence and popularity of shows like Celebrity Rehab, Kim & Kourtney Take New York, and every other reality on VH1 should prove above anything else that schadenfreude is at an all-time high.

That means that when the mother of all modern celebrity horror stories, Lindsay Lohan, hosts a live, anything-can-happen style comedy show, people are bound to tune in to see exactly what would and could go wrong. It turns out enough people tuned in for the episode to break a few records for the year, sadly. From THR:

Despite critics ripping apart Lohan’s fourth time hosting the late-night comedy sketch show, last night’s SNL delivered the show’s highest-scoring regular performance of the season, with a 5.5 overnight household rating.

Only the 2012 premiere episode on January 7, hosted by Charles Barkley with musical guest Kelly Clarkson, scored a bigger number this season. Though it’s likely that telecast was boosted by a primetime NFL Wild Card playoff game earlier in the evening.

Line flubs, poor acting, and self-referencial jabs aside, the cast and writing staff was on fire that night, as you can see in the Disney Housewives sketch below.
