Yesterday, we were elated to bring you news that TNT had more guts and faith than NBC to renew Southland for another season. While we were so excited about the news, we neglected to notice that where a cable show gets a stay of execution, the fantasy series Legend of the Seeker gets the axe.
The series, based on the Sword of Truth book series by Terry Goodkind, had a good run, making it 40 episodes in 2 seasons, but it wasn’t pulling in the numbers that a network like The CW needed for it to survive. From EW:
The outlook had been bleak since last March, when many of Tribune Station Group’s markets dropped the syndicated series, which had been developed by Hercules/Xena producers Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert. ABC Studios, which produces it, kept shopping it around. But, I’m told, they found no takers. So, after two action-packed seasons, Legend is history.
The premise was much like many other stories we’ve heard before, including Star Wars in that a young farm boy learns that he has a destiny to take down the evil lord who threatens their world, alongside a kind old wizard and a beautiful princess. Add two droids and George Lucas may just sue somebody.
Any fan of the New Zealand-produced show knows that each episode played out like a classic episode of Hercules or Xena, but with updated effects and better storytelling.
No word on whether or not ABC Studios will finish the 4 episodes left in season 2, but both seasons of the show can currently be seen on Instant Netflix in HD.

May 7, 2010 at 3:53 amLegend of the seeker deserves more credit than it’s getting. Whilst watching fox 8 and cable tv i’ve noticed that there are way more adds like make it or break and gossip girl than there are of Legend Of The seeker. In a subjective point of view the advertisement that foxtel is putting on for Legend of the seeker is poor. I reckon that if you spread the word a little bit more than it would have better effect. Please under all circumstances rethink what your about to do. IT may not seem big but i heard talk of a huge fan base being set up in support of this wonderful sho… LEGEND OF THE SEEKER!!!

May 6, 2010 at 12:01 pmlegend of the seeker is my favorite show over any show I have ever seen it deserves more credit I agree with plus it has such superb actors & actresses like Bridget Regan,Craig Horner,Bruce Spence,Tabrett Bethel who is Cara the show is superb & has great family values & shows what true love is about & such great action & romance in the show as well as other things. It deserves to get to a 3rd season so I pray that the show gets picked up by a different station plus it just wasn’t on long enough for enough people to run across the show my cousin who I showed that the show was on watched it once & she was hooked on the show like so many others.I also agree it didn’t get enough marketing.I am also telling other people about the show & everyone I told the show about got hooked on the show I will continue to try to help the show so it can continue on for more seasons & try to help so another station picks up the show if I can so all fans lets all try to get more help for the show & get more people to know about the show so we can help the show get to at least a 3rd or more seasons.if there is a way for us fans to help legend of the seeker get picked up by a different station lets start some kind of petition or campaign so we can help the show legend of seeker continue on for more seasons & keep us all happy. It is the only show I really look forward to on watching on Saturdays plus it is my number one favorite show on TV.
