Preview Hulu Plus On Your PlayStation 3 Today

As we mentioned a few weeks ago, for those users lucky enough to get the invite, Hulu Plus is currently in it’s preview period.  As promised, Hulu has begun enabling the applications on various devices, including the much anticipated PlayStation 3 update.

In a coup for all you Playstation 3 defenders, Hulu Plus has chosen the Playstation 3 for limited console exclusivity through the end of the year. And for those of you who were concerned, no you don’t need a CD to play it like Netflix, you just need to download the free app from the PlayStation store.

The program looks almost identical to the Hulu desktop, and the video streams in beautiful 1080p (as long as your internet  and TV can handle it). Unfortunately, in order to access the preview you do need to be a PlayStation Plus member. Aside from Hulu Plus, said membership allows access to free or discounted add-ons, themes, avatars and games.

This means that in addition to the $9.99 fee to access Hulu Plus, you will need to pay the additional fee of $17.99 for 3 months or $49.99 for a year of PlayStation Plus membership. Luckily, the PS Plus membership is only required during the preview period.

The preview period currently has no set end date, but it is expected to be early this fall, when Hulu enables the next round of devices  for streaming. In addition to the PS3, Hulu Plus is currently offering access to it’s content through the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, select Samsung app enabled TVs and Blu-ray players (visit Samsung to check if your model is supported) and of course your Mac or PC.

For those of you with Sony and Vizio app enabled equipment, sorry, but you’ll have to wait until the Fall.  Don’t fret if you don’t see your gear named in this list, as Hulu will be adding devices in the upcoming months.

If you want to request an invite to the preview period fell free to sign up on Hulu’s site. While you wait for your invite, you can download the application on the device of your choosing to check out the interface and the sample shows they are offering. Keep it here for more info on Hulu Plus as it develops.

What Do You Think: Could this hurt Microsoft’s sales, as their main draw is exclusive streaming rights with Netflix?
