Who would win in a fight to the death between the Incredible Hulk or Superman? What would happen if Darkseid, Galactus and Apocalypse teamed up? What happens if Voltron met the Power Rangers? What is the most important comic book birthday? All these questions are amazingly answered along with tons more that even some of the most hardcore fanboys wouldn’t have even thought to ask in The Greatest Fan Film of All Time.
Over a full forty minutes in length, The Greatest Fan Film of All Time features cameos from all over geekdom and comics that would rival South Park’s Imaginationland episodes. Written by Larry Longstreth and directed by Jacob Drake, it features much better voice acting than one would expect from flash animated internet video, including TNA wrestler Dr. Stevie (or Stevie Richards of ECW and WWE fame) voicing Daredevil as he gives advice to various sidekicks on the setbacks caused by wearing yellow. That says a lot coming from a man who is not only colorblind, but completely blind. Check out the video after the jump.
For what it is trying to do by cramming in just epic amounts of fan service and hundreds of character cameos, the short film does a great job. It has a cynical humor behind it with over the top character designs like a four foot tall Wolverine to a Batman with elongated nose and ear pieces to his costume. The level of violence is on the same level of internet cartoon Happy Tree Friends with completely excruciating fight sequences that include dismemberments, decapitations, eviscerations and bludgeonings to name a few.
Thankfully the cynicism doesn’t end there as everything from Wolverine’s overexposure in the three X-Men films to Aquaman’s worthlessness in a land based battle have shots taken at them too. And like any great action film, the soundtrack fits perfectly between Aquaman and Northstar dancing to Cher’s “Believe” and the epic final confrontation being played out to the Foo Fighters “My Hero”.
The humor is fantastic and the animation is beautiful fluid for a flash movie. And viewers, this is not made for children so please don’t sit down thinking this homage to all our favorite characters is a family film. The language can be a bit harsh at times but isn’t gratuitous. Kudos to Larry and Jacob for their work on this project.
