First Image of Daniel Day-Lewis as Abe Lincoln Hits the Web

Daniel Day Lewis is a badass. The There Will Be Blood star is infamous for never breaking character during a film’s production, and it seems that his latest portrayal of the iconic American president in Steven Speilberg’s Lincoln is no exception.

Spotted at a local cafe in Richmond, Virginia by Michael Phillips, this image has been making the rounds as the first glimpse of what this film could look like.  Even though he’s enjoying his meal in jeans and a turtleneck, his hair an makeup certainly make a spot-on Abraham Lincoln.

Take a look at the candid image in full after the jump.

Now four years into the making of this film, Lincoln will also star Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone), who is perfect to play an 19th century character.  Liam Neeson was originally cast to play the lead, before it was confirmed that DLL had secured the part.  Apparently it takes a British actor to capture one of the most influential American characters.

I personally have been stoked for this film as soon as I heard the director/star combo attached to this project.  Spielberg’s been in need of a solid film ever since Munich, and if Daniel Day-Lewis puts half the dedication that he normally does into this role, it is sure to be a performance of a lifetime.  There’s no way this film can be bad.
