New Doctor means new clothes. The Twelfth Doctor is getting into the Whovian swing of things by choosing an outfit all his own. BBC America has released the first image of Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi in what will likely be his signature costume.
At first glance, Calpaldi’s look is old school with a bit of modern flair. While there is no bowtie or extra long scarf or Converse shoes to stand out, the clothes do fit the man. As Capaldi said, “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.”
Of course all Whovians know that the Doctor’s outfit usually has a story behind it but fans will have to wait until later this year to learn how and why the Twelfth Doctor picked his costume. The specifics of the outfit, according to BBC America, are: a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt and black Doc Marten shoes.

Be honest. You don’t really care about whatever I write when clicking on a photo gallery from Comic-Con in San Diego. I could write “Purple Monkey Dishwasher” repeatedly for two paragraphs and you’d skip right past to get to the pictures. But I won’t do that.
What I will do is mention that some of these early images from SDCC 2013 come from DC’s We Can Be Heroes charity auction which is still going on right now on eBay. There are still two days left to bid on some fantastic items that will benefit IRC, Mercy Corp and Save the Children.
Check out our full photo gallery and let us know your thoughts on the sights of SDCC 2013.

Hey all! As I am sure some of the regular readers of The Flickcast have noticed, my favorite part of the Con season is taking pics at them. Unfortunately, due to some professional responsibilities, I was only able to get down to one day of WonderCon this year.
But because my time was limited, I didn’t waste it on panels and the like. Instead I hit the floor with camera in hand and got as many pics of the Wondercon sights as I could.
While WonderCon doesn’t have the size of San Diego or New York Comic Con, the fans there weren’t any less fervent with their cosplay love. This year I saw a lot of new and original costumes I had not seen before. While a pimped out Boba Fett was present, I also saw for the first time Paper Mario as well as a group of female X-Man villains. Alongside the working R2 units, there was a life sized Wall-E that sadly the picture doesn’t do justice as it captured all of the personality of the movie and brought it to life in front of us all.

Last summer, the violent and foul mouth antics of Chloe Moretz stole the show and our hearts (and ticked off a lot of parents and church groups) as Hit-Girl in the first Kick-Ass. Chloe will be reprising the role in the sequel to the film that her parents wouldn’t even allow her to watch in the upcoming Kick-Ass 2. Alongside Chloe will be the returning Aaron Johnson as the film’s title character and the addition of Jim Carrey as Colonel Star and Stripes.

Presented without much in the way of comment is this fan photo, directly from the fine folks at Fan Art Exhibit, of Alison Brie as the First Avenger (aka Captain America). As fan-created photoshop works go, this one is pretty damn good.
The fact that it features one of our favorite actresses is just a bonus. Would this ever happen in real movie world? It’s unlikely. In fact, it’s pretty much impossible.
Would we pay money to see this on the big screen? Heck yes.
Click through for a larger version. No need to thank us.

This week is going to belong to Iron Man and Marvel Studios, today we have the first look at the teaser poster and an actual shot of The Mandarin for you to oogle over. Tomorrow we will get a glimpse of the first teaser trailer for next summer’s blockbuster to be and by Friday all of this will be dissected 1000 times over by the fan community and we will know if the film will suck or not. Things move fast these days.
First up is the teaser poster, which gives away absolutely nothing new. It is just a stylized version of Tony’s hall of armor with an unsuited Stark looking back to stare deeply into the audiences eyes as he ponders ‘what should I wear?’. It is a fine poster and actually ranks as one of the better Iron Man one-sheets to date. Posters is oddly one aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has been lacking over the last few years.
The second image for you to feast your eyes on is Sir Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. For those who are not comic fan boys first, The Mandarin is the arch nemesis of Iron Man and has not made an appearance in the films, but his presence has been felt in the guise of the ten rings syndicate which is likely his criminal force.
Take a look at both after the jump.

Unfortunately due to prior commitments, I was only able to make my way down to the New York Comic Con this year for preview night. While it was great to be able to take to the floor and not be mowed down by waves and waves of people, part of what makes a Con great is being surrounded by your fellow geeks. But even though it wasn’t the storm of crazy that usually envelopes the show floor by Friday or Saturday, there was still tons to see at the Con.
In the gallery below, check out some of the great booths from the show as well as some early cosplayers. One thing that stood out this year at NYCC is just how much video games were represented. PlayStation came in with a booth the same size as their San Diego setup including a huge diorama for God of War: Ascension. Meanwhile, Nintendo had two areas set aside: one for the 3DS and one larger area featuring both Wii U and 3DS titles. Not to be outdone, Microsoft came in with their biggest gun, Halo 4 which boasted a 45 minute to hour wait time on the least crowded of the show days for one round of multiplayer.
Take a look at all NYCC had to offer after the jump and we will try our best to find some more photos from the show floor from the rest of the weekend if at all possible!

Edgar Wright is a filmmaker who everyone should be excited about. He managed the rare hat trick of having his first three films be very excellent AND rather successful. So when he announced one more go around with the stars of his first to films, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, the world should have stopped for a moment and given the man a golf clap of encouragement.
Alas that didn’t happen so we are forced to go through the motions of a normal movie marketing cycle, starting with an excellent teaser poster coming soon to a theater lobby near you. These days teaser posters tend to be the superior form of film one-sheets, with studios more keen to let simplicity and the concept stand first and foremost instead of ghostly floating heads of the famous people in the movie. The teaser for The World’s End is no exception, this new poster is striking in all the right ways.
The film is about the pub crawl to end all pub crawls, literally, and this poster really nails the tone that the concept elicits. The film should be coming out some time in 2013 so the trickle of news and updates for this highly anticipated comedy should begin to flow more regularly in the coming months.
Check out the full poster after the jump.

Hitchcock is one of those handful of films that in any other year would be at the top of the heap for the award bait season we are about to head into. You have several high-profile actors in a biopic about one of the greatest directors of all time, and nearly everyone is playing someone else famous.
Yet with the huge number of “prestige” films hitting cinemas in the next four months, flicks like this one can get lost in the shuffle. Hoping to avoid that fate, the studio has released a brand new poster and trailer for Hitchcock and it is worth taking a look at. If only for seeing Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, who seems ridiculously perfect for the role.
On the other end of the spectrum is Anthony Hopkins as the titular director. As a still his look seems jarring and distracting, but it will be Hopkins acting that will be the pivot point for this film. If he is not fantastic in the part, the whole thing will probably fall on its face, but if he can nail it, Hitchcock could be a real contender for one of the best films of the year.
That is probably what makes this film so intriguing, even with the film so close to release it could still land anywhere between best picture or bomb of the year. Keep your eyes peeled to The Flickcast for any new updates on this fast approaching project and check out the trailer and full poster after the jump.

There is new Arrested Development coming, it is safe to say the world has moved past jubilant bewilderment and now are fully engaged in eager anticipation. With the new season debuting on Netflix in the spring we are starting to enter the advanced promotion corridor that gives us gems like this.
Entertainment Weekly has a couple of cast photos to promote the upcoming season and they are at least two-thirds as funny as the show itself, which is a complement if you know the hilarity the show reaches. The publicity pics are of the family Bluth decked out in some very dapper duds. With the popularity of shows like The Tudors and The Borgias, maybe they producers are hedging their bets and leaving open the possibility of resurrecting the show back in time should the next season under perform*.
The cast looks great, and it is great to see them all together again in a context that is not lamenting its premature cancellation. You can take a look at the full images after the jump.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not your average horror franchise. The original film is a true original and was one of the forefathers of modern horror storytelling, and after that the series took a long and twisty road. So it seems appropriate that we end up at the natural extension of the franchise, Texas Chainsaw 3D.
This is a film that is coming out in a few months, yet up to this point in time we have not seem much promotion for it. That was until the new one-sheet popped up online today, and, in all honesty, the poster actually strikes a compelling tone.
The tag line, ‘Evil Wears Many Faces’ offers up an interesting thought, Leatherface would probably have multiple masks he has made out of his victims over the years. Perhaps the new film will dig deeper into what makes the lunatic tick, or it is a throw away concept and the film is really just going to be a pretty young girl in a sweaty, small top running away from her doom for 95 minutes. Yeah we are betting the latter too.
In any event the poster is harmless and much better than they typical teaser imagery associated with 3D sequels to a modern horror remake.
You can check out the full one-sheet after the jump.

Doctor Who is almost back, and what better way to get you jazzed for the next batch of new episodes than with some rather impressive promotional artwork. These theatrical one-sheet inspired banners highlight each of the first five new episodes of the upcoming season.
There is some pretty major stuff happening in this first set of shows which will be ushering in some change. What that change will be is common knowledge, but on the precipice of the new season we wont spoil it here, especially as these posters do a good job of alluding to what will happen without overtly telling you.
One thing that is really interesting is how Steven Moffat has approached this new season. He has said in the past that he was trying to make each episode stand a little more on its own like a little movie. This was the same creative directive that Bruce Timm used in the early seasons of Batman: The Animated Series and look how well that turned out.
The focus on making these episodes more like self-contained mini-movies within a larger, interconnected world might be one of the better moves Moffat has made. Every episode we have seen clips from looks stunning, and if these episodes can deliver on their promise we are all in for a little over a month of pure television awesomeness.
Take a look at all the new banners after the jump.
