Coming in 2012: March 6th is Going To Be an Expensive Day

As we have talked out with our other recent Coming in 2012 articles, there are some big games coming out throughout the year. For the most part, these games look to be pretty spread out throughout the year… except for the collection of games announced for March 6th. Six, yes you read that right, SIX blockbuster titles will be releasing on March 6th, 2012 representing four different genres in the gaming industry.

First, fighting fans will finally get their hands on the much heralded and anticipated Street Fighter X Tekken. Back at NYCC, I had the opportunity to get hands on with the game and from what time I got with it, it has the potential to live up to the hype. It’s incredible to think about the dream matchups coming to Street Fighter X Tekken such as the wrestling heavyweight brawl expected to take place between Zangief and King or the martial artistry shown by both Ryu and Kazuya.

The Mass Effect trilogy comes to an epic conclusion with the release of Mass Effect 3. Shepard and his crew come back to earth with this action RPG along with the inclusion of a new multiplayer mode on top of the game’s signature dialogue tree and morality based decision making. Expect this game to consume the lives of those gamers who are finally just finishing their 250 romps from Skyrim.

Another game that will be getting a 3 after it is the Max Payne series. After a long hiatus, Max Payne 3 will be hitting store shelves. Years, both in game time and real life, have passed since the last time we saw Max in bullet time with his Noir dialogue and comic style storytelling.

For the squad shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be released as well. The title will focus on both single and multiplayer experiences using new advanced technologies for the soldiers. Though just announced for the month of March, there is a chance TCGR:FS may fall on this fateful day that may be one of the biggest in gaming for the entire year… at least until the newest Call of Duty comes out next November.

Also coming will be Silent Hill: Downpour, the eighth release in the long running horror franchise. This iteration will focus on Murphy Pendleton, the survivor of a freak bus accident as he is being transported from one prison to another when he is brought in by the residents of the town of Silent Hill. Expect Murphy to quickly find out that his escape isn’t the blessing he would assume.

The final game that has garnered anticipation for a March 6th release is XCom. Originally slated for 2011, XCom will be a reimagining of the XCom series which was a turn based strategy format that went on to release five titles. Core concepts from the previous titles such as Free Form Gameplay, squad and base management, and the energy source known as Elerium will be present. This title will focus on a 1960’s hysteria and the fear of the unknown.

In addition to all these titles, a new Major League Baseball game from 2K will be released on to of a new Ridge Racer and of course, we can’t forget a Sims 3 expansion as well.

Our advice, start saving your pennies and pick up some extra cash shoveling driveways ASAP.

XCOM’s not coming March 6th any more. It was delayed until “Financial year 2013”. It’ll probably be canned, I think.
