The Tomb is quickly shaping up to be an Expendables-level action extravaganza. With the casting of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzennegger as the protagonists of The Tomb, many foresaw issues with finding a villainous actor great enough to compete with the two most recognizable action stars on the planet.
With casting revealed by producer Mark Canton (300, Immortals) on The Mathew Aaron show, any questions as to whether they’d find a good enough actor to counter Stallone and Schwarzennegger can now be quelled. In a great bit of casting, “[Jim] Caviezel will be playing the role of the warden of the prison in which Schwarzenegger & Stallone attempt to escape from.”
The Tomb follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed every high security prison and has gained a vast array of survival skills. But all Ray’s ingenuity and knowledge are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from the master prison of his own design.
Schwarzenegger is playing the role of Church, a fellow inmate, who ends up helping him in Breslin’s attempt to escape. No word on the type of antagonist Caviezel will be playing, which could range from a truly evil character to a simple man who is just doing his job, but my he plays a smarmy/jerk warden in a true 80’s throwback fashion.
The action flick will be directed by Swedish film-maker Mikael Håfström best know for his films 1408 and The Rite.
Caviezel currently stars in Jonathan Nolan’s CBS drama Person of Interest.
