Our Wesen of the Week – The Ziegevolk

A man is on trial for the murder of his wife, which his own maid witnessed. His defense lawyer, however, has some kind of magic dust that he uses to sway the jury and witnesses to his side. As it turns out, Rosalee is on this jury.

Nick tells Monroe to take Juliette to the trailer, as it’s better for her and her recovery if Nick isn’t there if she remembers anything (or everything). Monroe shows Juliette the trailer, and she is flooded with images of several different Nicks all talking to her at once. It seems as if a bunch of memories are coming back to her all at once, in hologram or ghost form.

Nick receives a coded email from his mother. She says that she plans to spend the money wisely. Monroe equates it to the coins. I guess this means the coins are safe?

Monroe is concerned about Rosalee’s change in behavior, and sits in on the trial the next day. He is convinced that the man’s lawyer is up to no good after a witness on the stand completely changes her testimony after the lawyer questions her. After following him to the bathroom, Monroe finds the lawyer (Barry Kellogg) eating a toad in a stall. Kellogg is some kind of goat man Wesen.

Captain Renard gives Hank and Nick the real story on Henri, the man that tried to blow up Renard at the bar. He wants them to be careful, since Henri was part of the Verrat.

Monroe calls Nick and Hank and asks them to come check out the trial, and Kellogg. Sgt. Wu takes the stand as a witness, which leads me to wonder how Rosalee got onto this jury. Doesn’t she know Sgt. Wu? Either way, defense attorney Kellogg blows his pixie dust onto Wu, who completely changes his story.

Juliette calls the Hispanic woman who foretold her situation way back in the La Llorona case. The woman tells Juliette that she is getting all of her memories back. She tells her there is a line between darkness and light, and that this is just the beginning.

Back at the spice shop, Rosalee, Monroe, Nick, and Hank find that Kellogg is a Ziegevolk, and eating the toads increases the power of his “hypnotic pheromones”. The only way to stop this is to give him a concoction that blocks his glands from excreting them. The catch? They need Kellogg’s sweat to form the potion.

Kellogg comically eats a toad before going into a bar. He leaves the bar with a woman, and dusts her into agreeing to go back to his room with him. Monroe jumps out in full Blutbad form, and chases Kellogg down the street. Kellogg runs into Bud, who offers to help him escape.

Bud gives Kellogg a handkerchief to clean up, and drops off Kellogg at his hotel. Bud brings the handkerchief to Rosalee, who uses it to create the potion.

Nick and Hank interview Kellogg about the incident on the street while Monroe sneaks into his room to inject the toad with the solution. There is enough of the solution for one frog, so of course Kellogg has two toads in his briefcase. Monroe picks one of the toads and hopes for the best.

Back in Vienna, Adalind visits Eric. She tells him she doesn’t have the key. Eric is disappointed, but feels it is time to see his brother in person to let him know how serious he is about getting that key.

The verdict is in for the trial. Kellogg’s man is guilty. It looks like Monroe picked the correct toad after all. Or maybe Kellogg had two toads in his briefcase because he was going to eat both of them.

Nick, Hank, Bud, Monroe, and Rosalee are celebrating at the shop when a customer comes in. It is Kellogg. He tells Monroe that his powers are gone and he needs help. Rosalee comes out and Kellogg recognizes her from the trial.

Kellogg tries to attack Rosalee, but Monroe fights him off. Nick and Hank come, followed by Bud. Kellogg is freaking out, having recognized everyone from that night. Hank tells him good luck getting a jury to believe it. Hank arrests him for assault, and Kellogg is placed in a holding cell. As luck would have it, his client is being held right next to him.
