Syfy’s ‘Eureka’ Officially Canceled, Getting Final Episode to Wrap Up Series

It was less than a week ago that Syfy announced its long running series Eureka would get a six episode season six order and that those six episodes would be the last for the series. Then, Syfy apparently had a change of heart and announced Eureka would not get six episodes for a final season and instead would end after this season.

Now, things have apparently changed yet again. Syfy has announced, and Deadline has confirmed, that Eureka will get one more episode after current episodes air to properly wrap up the series.

According to reports, Syfy executives called the cast to apologize for the conflicting decisions over the past week, which included a six-episode final-season order, followed by no-final-season announcement and then the additional episode pickup. Well, at least they apologized, which is nice.

Reports are that the six-episode order was overruled by the new post-merger management as the series was getting expensive after 5 seasons and has enough finished episodes. Most affected are some crew members who turned down job offers last week when Eureka was picked up for 6 more episodes only to find out later that wasn’t happening. I bet they didn’t get a call from Syfy executives.

At least the network still has other cool shows like Warehouse 13 and Alphas which, after a bit of a slow start, is getting better and better.

Check it Out: Watch Every Death from ‘Final Destination’ 1-4

Though some people look down on sequels past number 3, there are a few pretty good films out there in the high sequel count that have had a decent fan response in the past. With that in mind, the upcoming 5th film in the Final Desintation franchise already has 83% over at RottenTomatoes, so it can’t be that bad, right?

The series was “rebooted” with #4 to a new audience, bigger budget, and slightly more 3D element (from the already nonexistant 3D in 1-3). That film took off and had some pretty big numbers in the box office, so why not continue with a fifth film? Exactly.

In honor of the film hitting theaters this Friday (in 3D and 2D), the fun folks over at Screened.com managed to compile every death from Final Destination 1-4, which managed to leave us off with a nice round 30 kills overall.

Just watching this montage made us realize how beautifully violent and deranged some of these deaths turned out to be, and how hilariously campy some of the Rube Goldberg-esque traps were setting us up.

Check out the montage after the jump and race out to see how much more ridiculous the deaths can get this Friday when Final Destination 5 hits theaters everywhere.

Hong Kong Fooey FINALLY Getting A Film Reboot, Eddie Murphy To Voice

Just when you thought things couldn’t go much further past films like Battleship, The Smurfs, or a third Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, one more film gets thrown into the mix that has everyone asking one question: Why?

That’s the first and only question we asked when news came through that the classic cartoon Hong Kong Phooey was getting a new animated film (likely in 3D). We didn’t bother asking “Who?”, as we were still stuck on the first question. As it turns out, star of such classics as Norbit and Meet Dave, Eddie Murphy will be stepping into the recording studio to give Hong Kong a shot. Here’s what Deadline had to say:

Eddie Murphy will give voice to the animated lead character in Alcon Entertainment’s live action/animated big screen adaptation of the of the 1970s Hanna-Barbera animated TV series HONG KONG PHOOEY, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.

Alex Zamm (“Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts,” “Tooth Fairy 2”) will direct. Kosove and Johnson will produce with Jay Stern and Brett Ratner. Steven P. Wegner will executive produce.

It’s High For the Holidays with the First Trailer for ‘A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas’

Between films like Piranha 3D and Sharknigh 3D, studios have touched on the lameness of the 3D craze, but until now, we haven’t seen it taken to the level of ridicule that it truly deserves with the first trailer for A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.

The film picks right up where the last film left…only 6 years later. Here’s the official synopsis (as if you need it).

After years of growing apart, Harold Lee and Kumar Patel have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar’s door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold’s house ends with the “high grade” contents — and Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree — going up in smoke.

With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them.

Expect to see all of your favorite friends return, even Neil Patrick Harris, who was killed in the last film (don’t worry-they explain that). Loaded with dirty humor and digs on modern cinematic crazes, you can expect to see A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas in theaters on November 4th.

Amazon Launches Web-Based Kindle Cloud Reader

With all the ways available to be entertained and pass the time, people still like to read. In fact Amazon is betting you’ll want at least one more way to read eBooks you’ve purchased from them and have today debuted a brand new way to do it: the web-based Kindle Cloud Reader.

This new service provides users with access to their entire Kindle library using Chrome or Safari on Mac, PC, Linux and the Chromebook. Kindle Cloud Reader is also optimized for the iPad and offers a caching feature for offline reading, which is nice.

To get started, go to http://read.amazon.com and, when prompted, install the required plug-in. That’s pretty much it. I gave the service a try late last night and liked it. It’s another great way to read your Kindle content if you don’t have your ipad or Kindle handy.

Although, I still prefer the Kindle for reading or, in a pinch, the iPad Kindle App. Still, it’s nice to see Amazon continuing to innovate in this area and also potentially find ways to get around Apple’s sometimes difficult iTunes Store rules. Can’t blame them for that.
