Apparantly, we’re big fans of the Harry Potter franchise aroiund here because we keep bringing you information about the upcoming latest installment known as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In the past few weeks there’s been some TV spots, a poster and other stuff to help you pass the time until the film opens.

This time around, there’s a brand new TV spot called “The Chosen One” for you to take a look at. And yes, this one focuses pretty much exclusively on your beloved tween wizard. Please enjoy. If you want to check out the previous TV spots, head on over here.

Brand New ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Trailer Hits the ‘Net

sherlock-holmes-movieSure, we may not the first to bring you this new trailer but really, who cares? Like we need an excuse to watch, and talk about, anything with Robert Downey, Jr. in it. The trailer in question is, of course, for director Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes starring Downey, Jr., Rachel McAdams and Jude Law. Now, thanks to the folks at Trailer Addict , we can bring you the new trailer for the film in all of its cinematic awesomeness. Or, at least in that little window down there.

In case you’re not familiar with this new, improved version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective, the story concerns Holmes and his trusted sidekick Watson as they embark on their latest challenging mystery. Revealing “fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.” Plus, there’s probably a lot of freeze frame and extreme slow motion shots — but probably no Madonna.

Sherlock Holmes hits theaters on December 25th (aka Christmas). Meantime, check out the trailer right here.

‘Thor’ Casting Announcements

hemsworth_hiddelston_thorBy now, you may have hear there’s a live action Thor film coming out in 2011 from director Kenneth Branagh and Marvel Studios. And while its probably a safe bet that Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will make an appearance in Thor and perhaps Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark may as well (as he did in The Hulk), there had been no decisions on who would play the title role of Thor and his nemesis Loki in the film. That is, until now.

According to various sources, Thor will be played by actor Chris Hemsworth, who was recently featured in the small but pivotal role of George Kirk in J.J. Abrams Star Trek, and Loki will be played by the relatively unknown british actor Tom Hiddleston. Don’t feel bad if you’re not familiar with either of these actors as, to be honest, I had to look up Hiddelston myself to find out more about him.

Hemsworth, on the other hand, is already sort of known for his role as Geoprge Kirk in Star Trek and for being cast as the lead in the remake of Red Dawn, a role originated by Patrick Swayze. So far, these are the only two roles in Thor with confirmed casting, which puts to rest rumors that Josh Hartnett would be playing Loki and disappoints me that Alexander Skarsgård won’t get to play Thor — which I thought would be a great choice.

Of course, there’s still many more roles left to be cast and with Brannagh reportedly in meetings at Marvel’s HQ this week, we’ll probably see some more casting news coming out pretty soon. Who knows, maybe we’ll even see Natalie Portman in the movie after all.

Michael Mann On ‘Public Enemies’, Depp and Bale’s Outburst

depp_public-enemiesFrom the original Miami Vice TV series through films like Thief, Heat and Collateral, director/writer/producer Michael Mann often explores the darker side of the street and highlights the lives and evil deeds of criminals. In his movies, the crooks are often just as symapthetic as the cops who try to catch them and the line between good and evil and right and wrong is, at best, blurred. Another film from the director that promises to explore the same territory is his upcoming John Dillinger biopic Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp as Dillinger.

Over at the San Francisco Chronicle website they’ve got a very interesting interview with Mann about his upcoming film. In the article, several bits of information are revealed including the fact that the film’s star Johnny Depp has wanted to play the role of John Dillinger for twenty years, that director Mann thinks the film’s stance against banks is very timely given today’s economy but insists it’s just a coincidence, that Mann encourages his actors to heavily research their roles and that the film may glorify criminals.

Mann also defends Depp’s co-star in Public Enemies, actor Christian Bale, for his outburst on the set of Terminator: Salvation, insisting that nothing of the kind happened during his shoot. According to Mann: “Christian is a sweetheart to work with. This is a guy who doesn’t even travel with assistants. I can only surmise, if something like that happened, the provocation to Christian must have been extreme and going on for a long, long time.”

Mann also had glowing things to say about his star Johnny Depp and revealed that Depp has some close ties with the infamous character he plays in the film. “A lot of what goes on inside Johnny Depp could be used and revealed,” Mann said in the article. “I know there are dark currents within Johnny and also from his past life, and I know he has a lot of John Dillinger inside of him. He has a deep understanding of a troubled past and a troubled life, but is someone who is a very passionate man. He could understand those currents in unique ways.”

Bradley Cooper is ‘Faceman’ in ‘A-Team’ Movie

bradley-cooperWe love actors (and actresses) here at The Flickcast. Sure, sometimes they get a bad wrap or have tantrums and insult people — that happens. But in the end, we know acting is actually harder than it looks so we forgive them their little “issues.” We especially love it when actors accidently let slip details about movies they are being cast in even though those details have not been “officially” released. Fortunately, we’ve got one of those today with Bradley Cooper’s little slip to IESB confirming he’s been cast as Templeteon “Faceman” Peck in director Joe Carnahan’s A-Team movie.

Recently, during a interview about his other upcoming film The Hangover, IESB asked Cooper if he was excited to be playing the role in The A-Team, to which Cooper responded “That out already?” Of course, the news is not officially out, but Cooper may have been thrown off by the fact that most people were trying to get him to admit he’s going to be the new Green Lantern. Really, given the rather fast-paced nature of some junkets, this is understandable.

So, with Cooper apparently in as “Faceman” and Common supposedly a lock to take on the role made famous by Mr. T in the series, B.A. “Bad Attitude” Baracus, that only leaves two other roles left to cast. For my money, I would love to see Bruce Willis or Kurt Russel as “Hannibal” Smith and perhaps, as rumored at IMDB, Woody Harrelson as H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock.

Of course, it really isn’t up to me, so I’m free to speculate all I want. Although, I think those actors would be awesome. Fortunately, with an expected relase of the film on June 11th, 2011, that means production needs to start pretty soon so we should be getting some confirmed casting news pretty soon too.

Brand New “Transformers 2′ Pics Hit the ‘Net

megan_fox_transformers2_smallWith all the information coming out about new TV schedules which we will, of course, discuss on The Flickcast, let us not forget that some big, cool new movies are also in the pipeline over the next couple months. One such big, cool new movie is Michael Bay’s soon-to-be-a-blockbuster sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Previously, we’ve brought you some trailers and cool posters from the film.

This time, thanks to my former collegues at Cinematical, we’ve got some brand new pictures from the film to share. These pictures show various scenes from the film and, of course, the film’s stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox (looking great as always, btw). Sadly, no action shots this time or big explosions to showcase. Maybe next time.

On thing you can say about a Michael Bay film, regardless of your opinion of its other attributes, is that it looks really good — and these pictures continue that trend. This movie looks great.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opens June 24th. Meanwhile, be sure to check some of the pictures in a bigger size after the jump.

It’s Official: ‘Chuck’ Gets a Third Season

chuck-promoComing on the heels of the announcement that Dollhouse will get a second season, it looks like NBC is also feeling generous to their fans after a highly successful “Save Chuck” campaign at Subway franchises across the country, as they have renewed the goofball-spy series Chuck for a third season.

Though the show will return next fall, NBC had to make some budget concessions. Chuck‘s third season will now consist of 13 episodes rather than the 22 that season 2 got. Also, the show is expected to cut a few staff writers and possibly even a cast member (Not Jeffster!).

NBC will officially announce upfronts on Tuesday, May 19, but we already know that Chuck will join including Heroes, Southland, Law & Order: SVU, Friday Night Lights, and Parks & Recreation next season. Now that the 10pm time slot is taken up by Jay Leno’s new talk show, no word yet on a new home for Chuck, but if the amount of $5 footlongs purchased is any indicator, fans won’t stop watching, regardless of a new time slot.

Review: ‘The Brothers Bloom’

“I think you’re constipated in your soul,” Rachel Weisz says to Adrien Brody before going into an orgasmic fit at the oncoming thunderstorm in Rian Johnson’s second film, The Brothers Bloom. That was the peak of Weisz’s eccentric and electric role as Penelope, the mark of Adrien Brody’s Bloom and Mark Ruffalo’s Stephen Bloom.

Ruffalo’s Stephen Bloom is the storyteller, the man with the set-up, writing all the key roles and setting up the players. Brody plays Bloom, (Bloom?), the heartthrob, the bait if you will, that gets the women the men con. Tired of having a scripted life setup by his brother Stephen, Bloom sets off to live “a life that is unwritten.”  Just to be lured back into one final con: to get what everyone really wants.  The mark is Weisz’s Penelope a shut-in “rich bitch from New Jersey,” as Brody says.

The con is to swindle Penelope out of her bottomless treasure trove of riches in the name of getting a priceless book, which is really mostly scrap paper. The plan is to include her in the action. Through this, Stephen the storyteller introduces us to the world that he and his brother interact with including a cast of colorful characters such as Robbie Coltrane’s farting Belgian The Curator, and Maximilian Schell’s Diamond Don, and the brother’s nitroglycerin expert Bang Bang played with Chaplin-esque silent comedy by Babel‘s Rinko Kikuchi.

That setup really is just a con to get everyone involved. The perfect con, or as Ruffalo likes to say, is “to give everyone what they want.” To give Penelope an adventure, to live a life to which all of her separate and unique abilities can be put to use, and to give his younger brother a good life with a woman he can live with.  This is literally the sole purpose of Stephen’s final con-to give everyone what they want, including himself with heart breaking results.
