Plot Revealed For ‘Underworld 4: New Dawn’

Vampires may be yesterday’s Zombies, but that doesn’t mean they still don’t look cool while wearing leather and killing werewolves. Luckily enough, that means it’s time for another installment of the Underworld series.

There was a nasty rumor that Kate Beckinsale wouldn’t return for this sequel a while back, but that was immediately quashed. Here’s what we can expect to see from the plot, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting.

After being held in a coma-like state for fifteen years, vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) learns that she has a fourteen-year-old vampire/Lycan hybrid daughter, Nissa, and when she finds her they must stop BioCom from creating super Lycans that will kill them all.

So basically, this is Kill Bill with leather-bound vampires and scary werewolves. We aren’t complaining, but do they think this was an original idea? Let’s hope so, as Sheild writer John Hlavin and comic favorite J. Michael Straczynski are taking on the script.

Catch Underworld 4: New Dawn in theaters in both 3D and 2D on January 20th, 2012.

Check Out A Trippy New Music Video For ‘Black Swan’

While director Darren Aronofsky may be focused on a certain metal-clawed mutant in the near future, he still has his upcoming supernatural thriller Black Swan hitting theaters in a matter of weeks.

The film stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as rival ballerinas who vie for the top spot in a brand new New York City production of Swan Lake. As Portman tries to show her darker side, she literally begins to personify the Black Swan she’s trying to get the part of.

It’s an Aronofsky film, which means you can expect to see some of the insanely trippy and metaphoric visuals that you got in such films like Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain. To get you into that mindset, the studio has released a brand new “music video” for the film.

Check out the video after the jump, and be sure to catch Black Swan in theaters on December 3rd.

Warner Bros To Reboot ‘Buffy: The Vampire Slayer’ Minus Joss Whedon

We’ve been following this one for at least a year now when word first surfaced that a new Buffy: The Vampire Slayer movie was in the works. Now, it looks like the deal is finally going through, although the players have changed a bit, and we will be seeing a brand new big screen incarnation of the character. I’ll let the excitement of that one sink in.

Now for the disappointment: Joss Whedon will have nothing to do with the film. Yes, in the infinite wisdom of Warner Bros. and the new film’s producers, the man who created the character, the entire world in which she resides and guided the successful TV series through seven seasons will be left behind as this new project moves forward.

Instead, the new film will be scripted by newcomer Whit Anderson who’s sole writing credit on IMDB is a film that hasn’t even been produced yet. In other words, she’s done nothing to prove herself or her work. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I’m sure her take on the material was really compelling.

In case you can’t tell, I don’t really understand why anyone would think not having Whedon involved is a good idea. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.

In fact, Joss Whedon himself thinks these development are rather strange and has responded to the news in true Joss fashion. He sent the response to E! Entertainment via email. Click through to read the whole thing. . . it’s pretty funny.

War Movie Mondays: ‘Cromwell’

This week’s pick is the 1970 British epic Cromwell which stars veteran actor Richard Harris as the man who led Parliamentary forces to victory during The English Civil War. The film also stars Sir Alec Guinness (King Charles I), Robert Morley (The Earl of Manchester), Timothy Dalton (Prince Rupert), Patrick Wymark (The Earl of Stafford), and Michael Jayston (Henry Ireton).

After years of unjust and unacceptable policies during the mid 1600’s, many members of the dissolved Parliament feel that King Charles I has forsaken his subjects and that England is in need for drastic political change. Oliver Cromwell is a good, god fearing country magistrate who is called upon by his fellow members of Parliament to exact radical change and reform in England for a government for and by the people.

Cromwell is prepared to leave England with his family for a life in the New World until he is persuaded to return to London and to sit once again in the newly resumed Parliament with its members in order to take their grievances to the King who encroaches on their lands and steals it from commoners for the rich, a policy which angers Cromwell and his fellows immensely.

King Charles (Guinness) allows Parliament to resume after eleven years in order to gain their support and to raise money against the Scots and Irish who are threatening England with invasion. Cromwell and the rest of Parliament refuse to grant the King money in order to fight until their demands are met.

Charles fears that if common men were to govern themselves, he would merely be reduced to just a figure head and lose his god given right to rule England and the Church of England which he is a devout member of, even though his French wife is a practicing Catholic. Charles along with his Catholic wife who demands him to stand firm against such an ultimatum from his subjects, refuses to come to terms with Parliament’s requests and the country steers ever closer to civil war.

The Perfect Holiday Gift for the Apple Fan on Your List?

It gets tougher every year to surprise the Apple fanboy/fangirl on your holiday shopping list. They probably already own every gadget Apple manufactures, perhaps several times over, so how to surprise the Apple fan this year? It’s got to be this guy.

No, not me, but the face of Apple himself, Steve Jobs as an amazingly detailed glorious action figure. As described by the manufacturer, “The most phenomenal Steve Jobs figure ever. It looks insanely like Steve.” Indeed it does.

Chinese online store, M.I.C. (Get it? “Made in China?”) offers this unique action figure for $79 and the attention to detail is quite high. From Jobs’ receding hairline, right down to his trademark New Balance sneaks, nothing seems to have been missed. The figure even sports removable glasses and a scale iPhone in his left hand. Even the figure’s base is shaped like a white apple logo.

M.I.C. is also offering an “accessory kit” for their latest toy. Included are a number of “speech bubble” cards so that you can make Steve say some of his famous catch phrases, a brush and a permanent marker. I’m not sure what the brush is for precisely, and now that I’m thinking about it, I’d probably save the extra $2.99 and just make my own.

I’d also like to see other Apple products, such as the iPad or perhaps Macbook Air  included in an accessory pack. And finally, one thing that remains disturbingly unclear, is whether Steve is pose-able or not.

Update: It appears the company has gone “Out of Stocks” (sic) on this product, but if you’re interested in something like this, you may want to keep an eye on the company’s product page as I’m sure they’re making more.

Netflix Announces ‘Streaming Only’ Plan, Raises Other Plan Prices

Today, everyone’s favorite movie and TV streaming service that also sends you programming on DVD and Blu-ray announced that beginning today the company will offer a new, streaming-only service option for $7.99 per month. The plan, which does not include any by mail content rentals, allows users to stream available titles to their televisions, mobile devices, and computers.

According to the company, they are “Creating the best user experience that we can around watching instantly is how we’re spending the vast majority of our time and resources.” Mmmkay. Sounds good.

Unfortunately, with good news also, on occasion, comes bad. The company also announced an increase to monthly plan prices by from $1 to $8. Netflix did not offer any reason for the increases, but did say price of its two most popular plans — one DVD and 2 DVDs — will only rise by $1. Thanks for that. Click through to see how the new Netflix plans work.

Will this change cause most people to switch to the streaming only plan? Maybe. What about you guys? Will you switch or do you still l like getting physical media?

Apple Updates iOS to Version 4.2.1 for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch

It might have taken a bit longer than originally thought but today Apple has finally rolled out its iOS 4.2.1 update for the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch. The biggest changes with this release will come for iPad users, who have been left without a version of iOS 4 for their devices until now.

Once they apply the update iPad users will be able to take advantage of Apple’s multitasking workaround for third-party apps, folders, AirPrint, unified inbox and much more. However, the good news isn’t just for iPad users. iPhone 3G users should also experience much needed performance improvements.

The update is available via iTunes so connect those devices and get updating. If you do, let us know if you have any problems or if things get better.

On a somewhat related note, Apple has made Find My iPhone free for all users. The feature, which allows GPS-enabled iOS devices to be located from via a web interface, had previously been part of Apple’s $100-per-year MobileMe service. Sadly, MobileMe still costs money. Come on Apple, let it go.
