Taste Your Inner Geek With Brand New ‘Stay Puft’ Marshmallows

Do you share a love of all things 80’s and nerdy? Are you tired of getting that “2:30” feeling? Well, the smart fellows at ThinkGeek can help you on both fronts. They’ve recently introduced the world to official Ghostbusters Stay Puft caffeinated gourmet marshmallows. 8-story tall monster not included.

The idea comes in just in time, as more and more rumors are surfacing about a possible third Ghostbusters film and less than a year after the popular video game with original castmembers. We’re pushing it pretty hard, so see what ThinkGeek has to say about it.

Two major things to note about these sugary mallows of awake-ti-tude: First, they are gourmet. Delicate and delicious. Second, they are licensed collectibles, which for a marshmallow is pretty awesome. Third, Stay Puft Caffeinated Gourmet Marshmallows come in a marshmallowy-feeling box – a nice reusable keepsake. And finally, fourth: Stay Puft Caffeinated Gourmet Marshmallows are CAFFEINATED! Big time. You feel it as soon as you suck one down. Take that giant marshmallow man; we’re eating your eggs one by one. So get some Stay Puft Caffeinated Gourmet Marshmallows now, relive the 80s, stay awake forever, and satiate the need for sugary revenge.

It’s hard to justify buying a box of $20 marshmallows that you actually eat, but it’s definitely a cool item to have on your shelf or desk next to your plush Mogwai and Ark of the Covenant business card holder. Check out the more stats about this awesome must-buy after the jump, and hit up ThinkGeek to pick up the ‘mallows.

‘Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions’ Alternate Costume Vignettes

Recently following our developer interview, we revealed all of the alternate costumes for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Two of the most intriguing reveals for the alternate costumes include the Scarlet Spider and the Negative Zone Spider-Man.

The Scarlet Spider was the center of the infamous Clone Saga of the 90s that some people view as one of the most confusing times in Spider-Man’s history. Yet, years later, the Scarlet Spider is still revisited through flashbacks, reboots, toys and now video games. The Scarlet Spider will be the unlockable skin in the Amazing Dimension.

A more obscure costume comes from Spider-Man’s Negative Zone attire. Appearing in the adjectiveless Spider-Man title in issue #90, while trapped in the Negative Zone, Peter was lent the Darkforce powers by a hero named S.H.O.C. which altered his costume. Haven’t heard of this story ever? There’s probably a reason for that. Regardless, this incredibly dark (and we do mean dark, it is almost entirely black) costume is a perfect fit visually for the Noir world of Spider-Man which is devoid of any color in it.

Make sure to check out the two vignettes after the jump of these two costumes in motion and stick to the Flickcast for all things Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions as it approaches its September 7th release date.

Lionsgate Bringing ‘Apocalypse Now’ to Blu-ray

Among my favorite movies, Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now ranks very high. It’s a brilliant and disturbing look at war and its effect on the men who fight it. Plus, it’s full of great performances from an amazing cast, action and also makes you think. What more could you ask from a film?

Nothing, really, except for all of the film’s brilliance and cinematic power, it never got the Blu-ray release it deserved. But now, it seems, that’s going to be remedied as Lionsgate is releasing the film on Blu-ray. Not only will the film be on Blu-ray, the release will come in two different versions, the standard and “full disclosure” edition, which will contain a host of impressive features.

Among these are both versions of the film, never seen before interviews with Coppola and other involved in the production, production stills, script notes, the Hearts of Darkness documentary and so much more. For the full list of features in both editions, check out the full press release after the jump.

Also, be sure to check out the Blu-ray trailer for the film after the jump as well. The Apocalypse Now Blu-ray will hit store shelves on October 19th.

Netflix Streaming Hits iPhone and iPod Touch

Netflix is one great service, and while it’s been available for streaming from devices like the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, it’s never been available for anything portable other than the iPad. That is, until now. As of today, users of the iPhone and iPod Touch can now stream Netflix straight to their devices.

The application is available from the App Store at no charge. All you’ll need is a subscription to Netflix, iOS 3.1.3 or later and a working internet connection.

Using the application, you’ll be able to access your Instant Queue, browse through your favorite genres, and search by title.

The only issue facing the Netflix app is due to Apple and AT&T’s new data plans. While users that have had an iPhone for quite some time have unlimited data, newcomers to the iPhone and AT&T will have a bit of an issue keeping their data under the cap while still being able to use the Netflix service to their leisure.

Android users are sure to be seething with envy, as it is unknown when, or even if, an application will ever be available for their devices.

Interview: ‘Eureka’s Neil Grayston Talks Giant Robot Spiders & Hover Bikes

In a world of constantly evolving tech, SyFy’s Eureka stays ahead of the game. The writers seem to have an unending amount of innovations up their sleeves. Between the giant robot spiders, A.I. in the house of tomorrow, and cloud sculpting devices, the scientists at Global Dynamics are kept pretty busy.

That makes double for their new director, Douglas Fargo, played with an affable, geeky charm by Neil Grayston. Just like Fargo, Neil is curiouser than a cat when it comes to gadgets.

The Flickcast: What do you think of the future technology on Eureka that has actually come to pass?

Neil Grayston: I’m always blown away. Sometimes it’s funny if you look back at the first season, some of our “high-tech gadgets” have already been surpassed in the real world a billion times over. It’s like we were really on top of that, someone was really thinking back there. I like looking back and seeing what we maybe thought of before hand and then what the real world was actually leaps and bounds (developing). It’s kinda cool knowing what real scientists are doing and what they’re actually making up.

FC: Do you ever have trouble with the highly scientific, technical lines on the show?

NG: Those are the lines that I usually will…like sometimes I’m going to admit, I cheat, I have my little sides and I cut out just the little technical lines and I make them as small as possible and I hide them in my wardrobe so that you won’t see anything. And then just before a take I’ll just look them over.

I’m fine with the dialogue and the back and forth, but am I going to say a pulsating ionsphere photostar or is it a photographic pulsar ionsphere? You know it’s those little things that I can look up on Wikipedia forever and forever. Fortunately, the Wikipedia entries are written by people who know what those things mean.

Eli Roth Confirms ‘Thanksgiving’ Movie

In 2007, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez brought us Grindhouse, a gritty, blood-soaked double feature that tipped its hat to the low budget exploitation movies that played during the 1970’s. The film featured some really fun trailers for fake movies.  Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, Edgar Wright, and Rodriquez were each responsible for one of the trailers.

The trailers were such a huge hit with fans that one of them has been turned into a movie. Machete (directed by Robert Rodriguez) hits theaters on September 3rd.

Now comes word that Eli Roth’s trailer for Thanksgiving will be made into a full length feature film.  Roth confirmed the news with Cinema Blend, and said that the movie is in the beginning stages.

The Thanksgiving trailer features the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts  celebrating the holiday while a serial killer dressed as a Pilgrim goes on a decapitation spree.  It is deliciously gruesome and the voice over narration is to die for (pun intended.)  This year, there will be no leftovers!

Roth has recruited friend Jeff Rendell to help pen the movie. Rendell appears in the trailer as the deranged Pilgrim. The two hope to write the story as soon as Roth finishes doing publicity for The Last Exorcism, which he produced.  That film will be released this Friday, August 27.

Check out the trailer for Thanksgiving after the jump. Warning: very NSFW.

Final Fantasy XIV Will Have An Experience Limiting System

In the world of MMORPGs, the players who excel are the ones that have the most time to devote to the game. It makes sense that the longer you have to dedicate to grinding out levels, stocking up on gear and materials, and running dungeons, the more of an advantage you’d have.

While other MMOs give minor rewards to players for resting between gameplay, like World of Warcraft‘s “rest bonuses”, they don’t have any kind of system comparable to what Final Fantasy XIV has planned.

In Final Fantasy XIV, players will be allowed eight hours per class at full experience points. After the eight hours are up, the amount of experience gained will decrease over the next seven hours. Once these seven hours are up, you will receive no experience points for the rest of the week. Players have the option to change classes at any time in FFXIV, so they’d have eight hours of gameplay per week, per class.
