Two Clips From ‘Smallville: Absolute Justice’

This week marks a pretty big event for the gang over at Smallville as they encounter the Justice Society of America for the first time. Granted, this isn’t the first time other DC superheroes have made it onto the show, with characters like Green Arrow, Aquaman, Black Canary, and others joining in the fray from time to time. With all those characters making appearances in the past, there’s still something even more special about this week’s two-hour episode.

While this season has brought up some interesting plots including Braniac, the Legion, Metallo, and others, this coming event, written by Geoff Johns, seems to take the cake. From Kryptonsite:

A man named Sylvester Pemberton tracks down Chloe (Allison Mack) and tells her he knows about her team of superheroes and needs their help. However, before he can explain who he is, he is attacked and killed by Icicle (guest star Wesley Macinnes). Clark (Tom Welling) and Chloe’s (Allison Mack) investigation leads Clark to the former headquarters of the Justice Society of America where he meets up with Nelson AKA Dr. Fate (guest star Brent Stait), Carter Hall AKA Hawkman (guest star Michael Shanks) and Courtney AKA Star Girl (guest star Britt Irvin).

Courtney pleads with Hawkman and Dr. Fate to help her catch the killer that is targeting their group but they are reluctant to resume their duties as superheroes. Clark, John Jones (guest star Phil Morris), Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) and Chloe team up to help the JSA stop Icicle before he murders another member of the group. Meanwhile, Lois (Erica Durance) receives a package from a mysterious agency called Checkmate, run by Amanda Waller (guest star Pam Grier).

Apple Updates iPhone and iPod Touch to OS 3.1.3

Got an iPhone or an iPod Touch? If so, it’s time to connect them to iTunes to get the latest version of Apple’s operating system for these devices. This latest version, dubbed 3.1.3, addresses a number of issues including the following:

CoreAudio
Playing a maliciously crafted mp4 audio file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

ImageIO
Viewing a maliciously crafted TIFF image may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

Recovery Mode
A person with physical access to a locked device may be able to access the user’s data

WebKit
Accessing a maliciously crafted FTP server could result in an unexpected application termination, information disclosure, or arbitrary code execution

WebKit
When WebKit encounters an HTML 5 Media Element pointing to an external resource, it does not issue a resource load callback to determine if the resource should be loaded. This may result in
undesired requests to remote servers. As an example, the sender of an HTML-formatted email message could use this to determine that the message was read.

The update also offers the requisite “stability and usability enhancements.” Confused? Don’t worry, just update and things will be fine. Although, if you’re worried, you could wait a couple days to see if this latest update breaks something else, which sometimes happens. For more on this update, visit Apple’s Security Update site.

Kurtzman and Orci Sign TV Deal with Fox

According to Variety, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the prolific writer-producers involved with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek and Fox’s series Fringe, have signed an exclusive three-year deal with 20th Century Fox TV. As part of the deal, which officially starts March 1, the duo will bring in show ideas, recruit writers to work with them and also create their own projects, either by themselves or with others.

According to the article, 20th Century Fox TV chairman Dana Walden couldn’t be happier with the deal. “We’ve been pursuing this deal for quite some time,” said Walden. “They would elevate any type of development. But they were very thoughtful about the kind of commitment they were making. They didn’t want to overpromise.”

As for the writer/producers themselves, they are equally as excited. “We’ve been excited about going back into TV, but wanted to wait until the feature side of our company was on its feet,” Kurtzman said.

“One of the things that drew us back to TV was the idea that we could do the kind of stories that we’re not known for in features,” said Orci. “From sci-fi to procedurals to medical genres, those are all the kind of shows that we love.”

For TV, the prolific pair are already overseeing CBS’ reboot of Hawaii Five-O, which recently got a pilot order. They are also producing a new animated version of Transformers for the Hub, the new Discovery/Hasbro joint venture that is set to replace Discovery Kids later this year. Even though they are still involved with Transformers, let’s hope their TV projects during this new deal are more like Fringe and less like Transformers.

EA Makes Sure It’s a Hell of Super Bowl

Geeks don’t watch football. It’s a fact of life. But this may change for at least one night in the near future as fans of the upcoming title Dante’s Inferno will be tuning in Sunday for the big game when EA puts out its most expensive television ad ever.

Expected to be viewed by roughly 100 million fans, the Super Bowl has developed a reputation for some of the best, and worst, commercial debuts of the year. With the ever climbing price tag for commercial time during the Super Bowl, it is estimated that EA will be paying close to three million dollars for Dante’s Inferno to be shown amongst the center of the marketing universe for a mere thirty seconds.

Dante’s Inferno’s Super Bowl commercial, entitled “Hell Awaits…” will appear during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLIV as a final push in the game’s already extensive marketing campaign. In preparation for the game’s February 9th release date, just two days after the Super Bowl, “Hell Awaits…” concludes a campaign that included Facebook apps, action figures, comic books and an animated DVD feature.

See How To Make A Zombie In Two New ‘Zombieland’ Featurettes

This week, we’ve been bringing you lots of goodies from the release of Zombieland on DVD and Blu-Ray. Since the DVD comes out today, we thought we’d put up two fun featurettes from the release, after giving you two deleted scenes yesterday.

In the first featurette, we go behind the scenes to see how they made their zombies look so realistic in the film. Actress Amber Heard (Pineapple Express) gets to sit in the make-up chair for hours before shooting in order to get her “zombification” just right. Also, we take a look at how some of the extras got to look so undead.

In the second featurette, stars Abigail Brezlin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Emma Stone (The Rocker) get to see one of the first zombies getting made up for the film. Abigail then decides to go on a mission to convince the filmmakers to let her be a zombie, just once.

‘Clash of the Titans’ Has An International Trailer

Previously on The Flickcast, we brought you lots of info about director Louis Leterrier’s upcoming film Clash of the Titans including the first images of star Sam Worthington as well as the first two trailers. This time around we’ve got the new international trailer to share with you.

In this new video, we’re treated to more of Persius and his adventures riding Pegasus, fighting the Kraken and trying not to get turned to stone by Medusa. We also get more with Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes because this is, after all, the international version of the trailer so the movie has to appeal to people other than those of us in the U.S.

Also, they seem to have moved past the whole “Titans will clash” slogan and adopted “Damn the Gods” instead. A slight improvement in my opinion.

What’s On Tonight: ‘Chuck’ and ‘Heroes’

It’s Monday so that means new episodes of Chuck and Heroes tonight. For Chuck, it’s another great episode where he further demonstrates his prowess as a new spy. Also, he and Sarah have to think quickly to protect one of their assets.

On Heroes, we’re getting closer to the final confrontation and things are really heating up. On tonight’s show you’ll see Samuel continue to execute his plan now that he’s captured Noah. Also, we’ve got a couple behind-the-scenes clips for you as well as you get to know more about your favorite Heroes actors. Good times.
