Marvel Comics On Sale This Week

Happy February and with a new month comes even more new comics. This week, Marvel is releasing a bunch of new titles, as they usually do, and we’ve got your complete list so you know what to expect. Among the titles we’re interested in this week are the latest Cable, a new installment of Siege, the latest issue of The Torch and the debut of Wolverine: Savage.

Of course, all of these, and much more, can be found at your local comic shop so head on down and buy some comics. If you don’t know where your local comic shop is, use this handy guide to find it. Also, be sure to click through to check out cover art for some of these upcoming titles. Enjoy!

Game Review: ‘Blood Bowl’ For XBox 360

Forget the Rose Bowl, the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl. We are geeks. We don’t watch that stuff anyway. Yesterday, Sunday, the holy day of football just one week before Super Bowl XLIV, we got to take a look at a “new” take on the classic game. Blood Bowl for XBox 360 is actually a play off Games Workshop’s classic tabletop, dice roll based board game set in their Warhammer Fantasy universe. Orcs face off against Humans as the Lizardmen take on the rat-like Skaven in a medieval gridiron beat down.

Gameplay:

Blood Bowl comes with two options for play-style. The first is based on the exact rules of the table top game where players take turns and use dice rolls to play through the events of a game. If you are a classic Blood Bowl fan, the game does an excellent job of translating the original. What seems like would be a slow paced game usually plays out rather quickly as each half’s eight turnovers per team quickly cycles back and forth. A few bad dice rolls and a game can be over and a matter of minutes.

Pee-Wee Herman Reviews Apple’s iPad

Many people saw him on the last week of The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, but for those who are unaware, Pee-Wee Herman has returned to the world of entertainment. He’s currently performing live all over California, and doing lots of promotions and now his newest “endorsement” for Apple and Steve Jobs.

Funny or Die recently posted a video of Pee-Wee (Paul Reubens) discussing Apple’s newest product, the iPad, with his playhouse pals. Having revived the characters from the classic children’s program, Herman and classic characters Conky, Magic Screen and Mappy, discuss the new product, which they all confuse with sanitary napkins, tampons, and even a drink tray.

Plus Mappy shows us how even he can perform two applications at once. Funny stuff.

Kathryn Bigelow Wins At The Director’s Guild Awards

The Director’s Guild of America Awards were held over the weekend, and Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman ever to win for feature film direction in the guild’s 62 year history. She won for directing The Hurt Locker, and beat out some stiff competition, including Quentin Tarantino, James Cameron, Jason Reitman, and Lee Daniels.

This could be a momentum changer going into the Academy Award nominations tomorrow morning. There have only been six times in its history that the DGAs have not correctly predicted the eventual Oscar winner. Incidentally, a woman has never won an Academy Award for best director, either.

Check Out Two Deleted Scenes From ‘Zombieland’

With Zombieland hitting DVD shelves across the country on tuesday, we thought it was only appropriate to share with you some of the cool features from the DVD and Blu-Ray release. We’ll be bringing you some cool bonus material from the release all week, but of course the most important material to any DVD: the deleted scenes.

With the film making over 3 times their production budget, and the film’s writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, getting picked up for such films as Deadpool and GI Joe 2, you can believe that the DVD will be as hot as the theatrical release. After the jump, we’ve got two brand new deleted scenes from the movie, including another rule to surviving the zombie apocalypse that never made the final cut, and an extended scene from the grocery store.

Box Office: Mel Can’t Edge Out ‘Avatar’ For The Box Office Crown

Avatar only dropped 14% from last weekend, and is still putting up huge numbers after seven weeks in release.  Once again, it maintained the top spot at the box office with $30 Million. Only six million to go before it breaks $600 Million domestically. At this rate it will hit that number this week for sure.

Mel Gibson’s revenge thriller Edge of Darkness managed a lukewarm $17 Million on just over 3,000 screens, which was a little lower than expectations. Kristen Bell’s romantic comedy When in Rome placed third, with $12 Million. The Tooth Fairy only dropped 29% for fourth place with an additional $10 Million.

The Book of Eli came in at number 5 with $8.7 Million.  It has almost earned  back its $80 Million budget. Outside of the top five, things were not so rosy. In its second week in release, Harrison Ford’s Extraordinary Measures tumbled completely out of the top ten into 13th place for the weekend.

That’s gotta be painful for Ford, and for the fledgling CBS films. Legion also dove about 60%, but a low budget probably ensures that it will still be profitable.

Four New Clips From This Week’s ’30 Rock’

While everything will be coming to a screeching halt pretty soon on NBC for their wall-to-wall coverage of the Winter Olympics, this Thursday is an all new night of comedy for the network. A big chunk of that will be 30 Rock as SNL alum Jan Hooks pops by as Jenna’s mom. From NBC:

Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) takes Frank (Judah Friedlander) in as a roommate, and is pleasantly surprised when the two make a pact to help each other kick their bad habits. Meanwhile, Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) turns to Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) for help with her mother, Verna (Jan Hooks), who has come to visit.

Hooks has remained pretty active in TV since she departed from Saturday Night Live back in 1994. She went on to be a recurring guest on 3rd Rock From The Sun and even a few episodes of The Simpsons.

Kevin Williamson Talks About What To Expect From ‘Scream’ 4

Scream's, GhostfaceWhile attending the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour to promote The Vampire Diaries, writer Kevin Williamson gave us some updates and the current status of Scream 4:

“I’m almost done with the first draft of Scream 4. I’m trying to get that together for Wes Craven. We’ve got to get going on that, during the hiatus. We have Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Dave Arquette. I was always holding out hope because the pitch was about those three characters. I didn’t want to have to re-route the whole story. We don’t have to do that. I can do it exactly the way I want wanted. The story is going to be told the way I originally conceived it.”

The immediate good news for fans of Scream are that all the principals are back, hopefully this will mean Wes Craven will return to direct. Films like this do best when you can bring back that core creative element. Of course, few of the other characters survived the first three films to return anyway.

Some may wonder if jumping back into the world of Scream is a good or bad idea. The horror genre has changed considerably since the first Scream movie came out in 1996. Scream 3 alone is ten years old. The big money makers these days are franchise films like Saw and unexpected indie hits like Paranormal Activity. The closest films to what Scream was would be the recent Halloween reboots, and even that’s a stretch.
