Stephen Colbert Joins Alicia Keys In A Connecticut ‘Empire State of Mind’

306-People_Stephen_Colbert.sff.embedded.prod_affiliate.56Stephen Colbert has been known for many impressive stunts since his show debuted, including shaving his head on a trip for the troops in Iraq, hosting a star-studded Christmas Special, and declaring war on Glenn Beck. He’s recently outdone himself once again by joining pop superstar Alicia Keys in a suburban Connecticut version of “Empire State of Mind (Part II).”

The song has been in the top 10 charts for months now, and is a love letter to New York City by both Keys and Jay Z. Colbert takes on the Jay Z part, with his own suburban spin, in last night’s episode.

The original song (not this version) is currently available on Alicia Keys’ new album, The Element of Freedom, which is currently available at iTunes and other music retailers. Check out the video from last night’s Colbert Report after the jump.

‘Iron Man 2’ Clues Taking Over The Internet

clue3-smThree different sites have received images of faux-newspaper clippings, somehow related to Paramount and Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. Superhero Hype received the first image, with the headline reading “The Secret Life of Mr. Stark,” with “Secret” highlighted in yellow. The second image was received by Screen Rant, with the headline of the photo reading, “Stark Situation Paralyze”, with “Stark” in yellow.

And now, the third released image, comes from CHUD with the headline stating, “Tony Stark’s Confession: ‘I am Iron Man'”, and this time “Confession” is highlighted. So far, the message seems to be, “Secret Stark Confession.” Who knows how many more are to come, if any, or if this little game is just a bit of viral misleading.

Answers seem to point to the creation of an ARG, much like the series of ploys created for The Dark Knight, and pretty much anything that JJ Abrams touches. To me, this seems like it’s leading to something to do with Mickey Rourke’s character, Whiplash, as there have been photos of that character in a Russian prison cell, with articles much like this hanging on his wall.

Check out the three clues after the break, and let us know what you think they might mean. Iron Man 2 hits theaters May 7, 2010.

Droid And Verizon Does Have A Deal for You

Eris-BOGO-decAccording to the highly informed Boy Genius, Verizon is at it again with the latest version of its Droid and Droid Eris promotions. This time, as with previous promotions, if you are looking to grab a DROID and/or a DROID Eris for you and someone you love (or two for yourself, why not?), you still have until Christmas Eve to make this holiday purchase.

Starting today and extended until December 24th, Verizon Wireless is offering the DROID Eris as part of its popular “Buy One, Get One Free” promotion. Just like with previous promotions, if you buy a DROID or a DROID Eris, you are eligible to receive a DROID Eris for free. Of course, a new two year customer agreement for each new piece of smartphone goodness is required. You didn’t think you were going to get off that easy, did you?

We’re still evaluating our Motorola DROID here at The Flickcast test kitchens and its pretty darn cool. Still, as much as we hate to admit it, we kinda love our iPhones a little more so far. Although, with the state of AT&T’s network and Fake Steve Jobs’ “Operation Chokehold” going down this Friday, Verizon is looking better and better all the time.

DVD Review: ‘The Hangover’

hangover-dvdNew to DVD and Blu-Ray this week is possibly one of the best comedies of the year, and definitely one of the highest grossing one’s of all time. Of course I mean the Todd Phillips’ film The Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Ed Helms (The Office), Zach Galifianakis (Out Cold), and Justin Bartha (National Treasure).

Three groomsmen (Cooper, Helms, and Galifianakis) try to retrace their steps after a drunken and drug-hazed night of debauchery in Las Vegas in order to find best friend Doug (Bartha) so he can walk down the aisle at his wedding in less than 24 hours. The film is a madcap ride full of great cameos with the likes of Matt Walsh (Upright Citizens Brigade) as an ER doctor, Heather Graham (Boogie Nights) as a recently married stripper, and Ken Jeong (Community) as a Chinese mobster out to recover a bag of stolen poker chips from Doug’s pals.

Latest Poster for Nolan’s ‘Inception’ Released

inceptionposter-sm Inception, Christopher Nolan’s new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and a whole slew of other great names including Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine has finally got a new poster. Other than the fact that its brand new, the big hullabaloo about it is it’s uncanny resemblance to a poster for The Dark Knight, which featured Heath Ledger’s ‘Joker’ facing away from us, with a couple of cards in one hand and a knife in the other.

Both also feature their single character in the middle of a street with a city’s high-rises walling them in. Of course, one of the main differences in the poster for Inception is that DiCaprio’s character is knee-deep in water. The tagline that has already become an Internet meme in itself, “You mind is the scene of the crime,” sits at the top.

The other more interesting question raised by this poster is at the bottom where it states “see it Summer 2010 in IMAX.” I understand that it’s becoming a normal occurrence for summer blockbusters to be released in this format and Nolan has even become obsessed, you might say, with using the IMAX format, but I can’t help but wonder if this movie will actually benefit from being on the larger screen.

I trust that Nolan knows what he’s doing, and the teaser trailer that’s been released, looks pretty amazing.  Anyway, check out the larger poster after the break and mark July 16 2010 on your calendar.

Tobey Maguire Is Going To Be On ‘Jeopardy’

tobey-maguireOr, more precisely, he’ll be making a movie about a man on the long-running game show. The story, written by William Wheeler (who also penned The Hoax), is based on a true story called “Prisoners of Trebek.” The plot is supposedly about Maguire’s character who spends time trying to master Jeopardy, falls in love, and experiences some “Charlie Kaufman-esque elements.”

Maguire’s production company, Maguire Entertainment, is producing along with Mark Gordon (who has produced films such as 2012 and Saving Private Ryan). The production is still looking for a director, and with the schedule Maguire currently has — soon to be shooting Spider-Man 4, The Details and Gary Ross’ The Crusaders — it might be some time before he can fit this film in so they probably have time to find a director.

One comment I read recently about this film mentioned something I thought would be hilarious casting: Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek. Probably not very likely, unless that’s part of the “Kaufman-esque” elements they’re talking about, but very funny nonetheless.
