Color me excited. I just fired up my HTC Incredible this morning to find a message alerting me that the update to Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) was ready to be installed.
Naturally, this made me very happy and I proceeded to do the update. Here’s what was added or otherwise made much better by this update, which changes your software to version 3.21.605.1 and Android version 2.2:
• 3G Mobile Hot Spot
• HTC Widget: Mail
• HTC Widget: News
• EAS Updates
• 720p Video Recording
• Amazon MP3
• Skype
• My Verizon
The rumored 802.11N wireless enhancement seems to be untrue as so far my updated HTC Incredible can’t find my N wireless network. That’s a shame. I will be testing out these changes and whatever else I can find today and will let you know if anything else seems odd or broken.
Plus, if I end up finding anything else cool not so far known with this update. If you guys decide to update, let us know your experiences in the comments.

September 2, 2010 at 4:27 amUpdates roll out based on esn/meid of the device. Got mine this am. Amazon mp3, flashlight, 360 rotation, backup apps to SD, WiFi hotspot ($20 extra/mon). My keyboard didn’t change. Astro file manager is a great task killer that kills all apps except those you choose to ignore.

September 1, 2010 at 11:52 pmDoes anyone know if the portable wifi hotspot is included with the update? I got my update this morning but could not figure out how to turn that function on?

September 1, 2010 at 3:44 pmeveryone that is waiting should manually update theirs, it’s easy. follow the directions listed in the blogs here and you’ll have the full update in 20 mins.

September 1, 2010 at 2:55 pmI did the manual last night Gabe, it works Great! Just follow the instructions and remember to disconnect your USB cable (Unless your using a microSD adapter) from your PC before starting the procedure.

September 1, 2010 at 2:53 pmI was a bit skeptical at first and didn’t want to brick my phone but this worked great.
I’m in the Chicago area and Verizon for some reason hasn’t released the update here yet.
I’m go to go now though.

September 1, 2010 at 1:24 pmChris, I’m debating on whether to get the Incredible or the “X”… I have terrible eye-sight, and really don’t want to have to use reading glasses everytime I use my phone, is there any benefit to one over the other? I carry my phone in my purse, so size is not an issue.

September 1, 2010 at 12:59 pmI noticed you can text either way instead of turning the phone to the right. I got my update yesterday morning and i’m loving it. I would just wait for the update to hit your phone.

September 1, 2010 at 12:19 pmI am in Annapolis Md and I got my update at 7:00 am this morning. It is really sweet and fast. I lost my ability to connect to Skpe and it took me awhile to get my weather app to work but so far so good.

August 31, 2010 at 10:10 pmI don’t really know much about customizing phones, but I got tired of waiting. I followed the instructions exactly as described to get the leaked Froyo and I’m loving it! But what should I do when I finally receive the f#*$!”g update notification? Just ignore?

August 31, 2010 at 9:55 pmI’m in Vancouver Washington and I got it at 10..browser is faster but dont like the fact that some programs like Skype and my verizon which are included in the update don’t get killed by my task killer even when I force stop them. But beside that even turning on the phone looks better

August 31, 2010 at 9:40 pmI just tried this and my Incredible appears to be stuck in a boot loop. It comes up with the white HTC screen and gives a percentage process indicator, get’s to 100%, reboots and repeats. I didn’t have any issues with the procedure but it appears that my Incredible is now a paper weight.

August 31, 2010 at 9:03 pmShould i try to?

August 31, 2010 at 8:04 pmI recieved my update this morning..
However I am dissappointed with the new software, as I use my phone mainly for text messaging and the keyboard configuration was changed.., and punctuation such as exclamation points and question marks are now not available directly on the screen (you have to “search” for them..not simply push the button)
Does anyone now how to change this?!

August 31, 2010 at 7:31 pmDoes this wipe the phone or does it keep all apps and settings?

August 31, 2010 at 7:16 pmSomething similar happened to me when I had the Moto Droid (I now have the DInc). I waited for another week for the update to be pushed down again, but it never happened. VZW support, both on the phone and in the store, were no help. I ended up just doing a hard reset myself…and within a few minutes, I got the update notification again. It installed properly that time. Your situation may be different, but it all else fails, back up your stuff and hard reset.

August 31, 2010 at 7:04 pmYou can manually install by following the instructions at the website below. I did it this morning and its working like a charm.

August 31, 2010 at 5:59 pmI just checked mine and the update came to me. This was while my phone was idling at work, so doing either a manual restart or a *228 was not necessary to receive the update notice, though a reboot is required during the install. Been waiting for this for ages!

August 31, 2010 at 5:53 pmI’m in Chicago and waiting still. I’d also like to know if anything special needed to be done too…like *228, WiFi enabled, gps, etc…
