PAX East 2011: Cool Booths Day 1

PAX East 2011: Cool Booths Day 1

The expo floor is bigger and better at this year’s PAX East. If you’re a little overwhelmed by how much there is to take in, or if you’re one of the readers at home hoping to hear as much as possible about the con, here’s my guide to everything you might be missing on the show floor.

Child of Eden

The spiritual successor of Rez, an obscure rhythm-shooter released for PS2 before the time of Guitar Hero or Rock Band, Child of Eden is a game you may not have heard of, but should be really excited for. It’s another rhythm based shooter, where your shots release music that goes along with the background music and sound effects in the game, also similar to games like Lumines for the PSP.

What’s really exciting about Child of Eden is that it’ll have Kinect support, allowing you to shoot and navigate through its kaleidoscope world without a controller.

If you’re at PAX East this weekend, you can check out Child of Eden at booth #824.

Bioshock Infinite

Irrational Games has an interesting presence at this year’s PAX East, as their booth really isn’t on the show floor. It’s right in the main lobby, in front of a giant, amazing display for their next big game, Bioshock Infinite.

While you won’t get a chance to play the game just yet, there’s some new trailers to watch, plus a photo op with that really, really cool display. I can’t talk about it enough. It’s just very cool.

Be sure to hit up the Irrational Booth this weekend at 1 and 3 PM, where you’ll score a chance for some cool swag, including t-shirts and stickers! Who doesn’t love free stuff?

Star Wars: The Old Republic

After giving up World of Warcraft, this is really the only MMO I’m allowing myself to be excited for. And for good reason, because from what I saw today on the show floor, this game is going to be awesome.

While The Old Republic isn’t available for play just yet, if you stop by the booth you can check out the brand-new trailer for the game, featuring footage of characters, environments, and a look at how combat will play out in the game. Or, if you show up at the right time, the guys at Bioware are demoing the game on the big screen, and you’ll be able to see some exclusive gameplay action of The Old Republic.

You can find Star Wars: The Old Republic at booth #912 on the show floor.
