Way back in 2011, The Flickcast was covering Anarchy Reigns from SEGA and Platinum games pretty heavily but at the start of 2012 news about the game started creeping to a standstill. Though it was released in July of this year in Japan, there was a placeholder March 2013 release date for the game. Now, SEGA has confirmed that Anarchy Reigns will be coming to the states on January 4th, 2013. With that, they also confirmed that Anarchy Reigns will be coming to both the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 with the value minded price point of $29.99.
For those that haven’t been following it, Anarchy Reigns is an online multiplayer focused beat ’em up which features some of the cast of the Nintendo Wii’s MadWorld as well as some new characters as well. You can find some of the vignettes for the characters we have highlighted on the Flickcast here.
Originally titled Max Anarchy, Anarchy Reigns won’t be the first game to risk an early January release date. The same tactic was used a few years ago by Darksiders in an effort to not get lost in the AAA heavy shopping season where it could just be lost in the shuffle but still capitalize on post holiday spending. Especailly noticing its $30 price point, this very well may be their reason for putting the game so close to New Year’s.
“SEGA is hugely proud of the work PlatinumGames has put in to creating a videogame with such a unique and engaging vision” commented Jurgen Post, COO of SEGA Europe Ltd. “Gamers will soon be able to experience the full adrenaline rush that comes from competing in explosive multiplayer matches of Anarchy Reigns.”
“Focusing on online play with Anarchy Reigns presented a new challenge for us here at PlatinumGames,” added Atsushi Inaba, Executive Director/Producer at Platinum Games. “Very few games fall under its genre of a melee-based online multiplayer brawler, so I think we’ve been able to supply a new kind of excitement that you can’t find anywhere else. While some time has passed since its Japan release, I look forward to having gamers in North America and Europe enjoy the Anarchy!”
