That’s not even me being sarcastic, as I have been known to be. Who were the people, aside from the ones who made money directly from it, hoping for the return of Heroes? I could maybe understand Jeph Loeb looking for a comeback, but he’s busy with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. right now, so I can’t pin this one on him.
When talking about Heroes with the many geek friends and acquaintances I have, the common thread is that it started strong and by the second season had fallen apart. After that, popularity, ratings and the fandom waned.
In the end during what we thought was the series finale, everything got wrapped up in a trite and contrived little package that most of us hoped would stay sealed away with our HD-DVD box sets of season 1. The plot holes, hanging threads and characters that devolved could all be laid to rest and we’d all be better for it.
And then we see this… I was so bothered by it that it took me two full days before I could begin to even articulate my confusion. Heroes was wrapped up. We didn’t need to bring it back. There were tons of other properties more deserving. Like Surface. Yes, look it up. I would have taken the return of Surface better than Heroes because at least there we were left with a cliffhanger for a season 2 which never came.
And judging from the comments on the YouTube video below, I am not the only one whose reaction was bewilderment. As there are with all things on the internet there are a few excited fanboys who can’t seem to utter anything other than “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World” but that was over in season 1.
After that, we had way more crap to deal with that had nothing to do with pompoms. I don’t even know if I am going to watch it at this point. If they want to change my mind, they better blow my mind with a trailer that shows more than an eclipse.
And PS. I hope Marvel sues over the use of Heroes Reborn.
