Cortney’s TV Digest: What’s On In March

We’re back this month with Cortney’s TV Digest, everything you need to know about the latest and greatest shows on the tube. This month we’ve got some interesting new shows to tell you about from a bunch of your favorite networks, as well as the resurrection of one show we worried we’d never see again.

Parenthood – NBC

Based on the 1989 film of the same name, this new show is produced by movie and tv genius Ron Howard. The show follows the parenting experience of the Bravemen family: single mom Sarah (Lauren Graham), her brother Adam (Peter Krause) and wife Christina (Monica Potter) whose son is diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, and their headstrong father (Craig T. Nelson). Parenthood premiers March 2nd at 10 PM on NBC.

Southland – TNT

Back in 2009, NBC premiered their new, gritty cop drama, Southland. The show centered around Los Angeles and the members of the LAPD, including The OC’s Ben Mackenzie as rookie Officer Ben Sherman. Shortly before the beginning of its second season, NBC suddenly canceled Southland. It was doubtful whether we’d ever see the six episodes scheduled to air, but TNT swooped in and bought them, effectively saving the show from certain doom. The previous season began airing in January and season 2 starts on March 2nd.

Breaking Bad- AMC

Breaking Bad begins its newest season this month. For those of you who’ve never watched the show, it follows Walter White (Bryan Cranston), high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with terminal lung cancer who starts dealing drugs in order to secure the future of his family.

The first and second season have been nominated for multiple Emmys. You can catch the newest season of Breaking Bad on March 21st.

United States of Tara – Showtime

Created by Academy Award winning writer Diablo Cody, United States of Tara is a Showtime show that follows Tara (Toni Collette), a mother with dissociative identity disorder (D.I.D.). What this means is, whenever Tara gets stressed out or emotional she becomes one of several identities in order to cope, including an old-fashioned housewife, a promiscuous pot smoker, and a man.

The show also stars John Corbett as Tara’s patient, level-headed husband. Toni Collette won a Golden Globe earlier this year and an Emmy in 2009 for her performance as Tara, and the new season starts March 22nd.

Sons of Tuscon – Fox

Sons of Tuscon is a brand-new show starting this month about Robby, Gary, and Brandon Gunderson, three brothers who decide to hire a replacement father (Tyler Labine, “Reaper”) after their real one gets hauled off to jail. While the boys find their new father, Ron, working at a sporting goods store, what begins as a business arrangement oddly becomes a family. Sons of Tuscon premiers its first episode on March 14th at 9 PM.

That’s all we’ve got for you for March. Stay tuned for next month, when Glee returns to Fox, a new season of In Plain Sight begins, and Lost continues to confuse us all.

If it’s any consolation, I’m looking forward to Justified. Olyphant is definitely under appreciated.
