Gamescom 2012: ‘007 Legends’ Lets Us See the ‘Die Another Day’ and ‘License to Kill’

With 007 Legends getting closer to its October 16th release, we get a look at two new levels for the game. Alongside the already announced Moonraker, Her Majesty’s Secret Service and the upcoming Skyfall which will be the final section of the game, we now get a look at Die Another Day and License to Kill. This still leaves one 007 film still shrouded in secrecy as to what will be the final movie tied into this sweeping storyline that ties the six films together.

This 007 title promises a different experience than previous games, not just with its multi-film story concept but with a new focus on the gameplay. Instead of following the Goldeneye Reloaded formula which was primarily just a shooter with a few QTE’s or Bloodstone which took Bond to a third person view, 007 Legends will place an added focus back on two of the things that make Bond so special, the cars and the gadgets. As you will see in the trailer, screens and concept art below, players will get the opportunity to drive Bond’s signature Aston Martin across ice slicked highways, use his watch as a laser and trigger mines on unsuspecting minions.

When talking about the choice of levels, David G. Wilson, VP of Global Business Strategy, EON said, “The method of picking which James Bond movies to include in 007 Legends was a deep and thoughtful process between Eurocom, Activision, EON and Danjaq… We took great care in selecting movies that helped define who Bond has become over the years, and ones that could be tied together in a compelling way to pay homage to 50 years of 007.”

In 007 Legends’ Die Another Day movie-inspired mission, the quintessential secret agent is sent to rendezvous with Agent Jinx to investigate the connection between Gustav Graves – a diamond mogul funding the development of an international space weapon called Icarus – and a North Korean terrorist set on unifying his country once and for all. With Jinx’s help, Bond must chase down Graves, racing along ice while duelling against North Korean spies and Graves’ allies, all while dodging concentrated blasts of solar energy from the Icarus weapon. After confronting Graves on his high-flying jet, Bond must prevent triggering a war between North and South Korea and escape the stricken jet before it’s destroyed.

In the Licence to Kill movie-inspired mission, Bond enlists the help of U.S. Drug Enforcement Agent Pam Bouvier in order to avenge Felix Leiter and uncover a vast international drug operation headed by an evil Mexican drug lord with terrorist connections – Fran Sanchez. After detonating a massive explosion in Sanchez’s drug refinery, Bond will have to capture Sanchez before he escapes, ending in a brutal physical confrontation on-board a moving tanker truck. Will Bond be able to avenge his friend or will he be killed by Sanchez?

The roles of Gustav Graves in Die Another Day and Pam Bouvier from License to Kill will be reprised by their original actors, Toby Stephens and Carey Lowell respectively. These fine Bond legends will find themselves along other 007 alumni like Richard Kiel (Jaws), Judi Dench (M), Lois Chiles (Holly Goodhead) and of course Daniel Craig as Bond.

Take a look at the new Gamescom trailer for 007 Legends as well as new screens and concept art. Stay tuned to The Flickcast for more on 007 which comes to PlayStation 3 an XBox 360 on October 16th.

About John Carle

The Definition of “Geek Chic.” Comic books, sci-fi movies, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Lord of the Rings and more all rolled up in a Diesel wearing, club going socialite package. Having worked in both advertising and television, John is a lifetime writer always being a part of the creative process. John knows the television world between his experience on being involved with the production process of over two hundred episodes of prime time tv and being a self admitted media whore. Yes he has a weakness for trash tv, Michael Bay-esque action movies and the raunchy teen comedy as well. Never try to debate the Original Star Wars Trilogy versus Star Trek with him because the Holy Trilogy always comes out on top. Having partied with movie stars to Playboy centerfolds, John is somehow always able to find someone’s inner geek. The simplest rules that John lives by is to have fun and doing what makes him happy. There’s no shame in being a geek. Play Halo, read Spider-Man and proudly display the whole series of Neon Genesis: Evangelion on your DVD rack. And most importantly, make sure to read his weekly comic book pull list reviews at The Flickcast.
