HBO Go and Watch ESPN Now On Apple TV

hbogo-appletv-1

This will be a welcome announcement for the thousands (or more) of you using an Apple TV. HBO Go and Watch ESPN are now available via that device.

“HBO GO and WatchESPN are some of the most popular iOS apps and are sure to be huge hits on Apple TV,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “We continue to offer Apple TV users great new programming options, combined with access to all of the incredible content they can purchase from the iTunes Store.”

In case you didn’t know: HBO GO users get unlimited access to their favorite HBO shows, including HBO original programming, hit movies, sports, documentaries, comedy specials and more. This includes full seasons of the best of HBO, plus bonus features and special behind-the-scenes extras. HBO GO on Apple TV requires a subscription to HBO through participating television providers.

Here’s all the technical details too, just in case: Apple TV requires iTunes 10.5 or later. Apple TV requires an 802.11g/n Wi-Fi network or Ethernet network, a broadband Internet connection and a HD TV capable of 1080p or 720p and an HDMI cable that is sold separately. Third generation Apple TV hardware is required to play 1080p video. HBO GO, Watch ESPN, SkyNews, Crunchyroll and Qello require Apple TV software version 5.3 available as a free software update for second and third generation Apple TV users.

Truth be told, this is great news. We love our Apple TV and now we don’t have to fire up the XBox 360 or PS3 just to watch repeats of Game of Thrones. Thanks Apple.

The Latest ‘Kick-Ass 2’ Trailer Is Here

kick-ass-2-carrey-1

After reading Kick-Ass 2, we waited for the firs trailer to come out for the movie to see if it lived up to the first one. While no one agreed with all of the changes made to the original Kick-Ass movie, Matthew Vaughn still did a great job working with the source material and made an entertaining adaptation.

How do you take something like Kick-Ass and make it more profane and obscene than having a little girl spewing expletives and hacking guys to death? Kick-Ass 2 apparently plans on doing it with even worse language and a horde of new costumed vigilantes.

This latest trailer gives a look at Jim Carrey in action as Colonel Stars and Stripes as well as his “wonderful pet.” We also get a further look at Red Myst who has reinvented himself with a very un-PG new name. We’re not sure if it all works or will end up a giant mess. Still, we’re interested enough to go see it.

Kick-Ass 2 returns Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Jeff Wadlow takes over for Vaughn as director.

Check out the trailer after the break.

‘The LEGO Movie’ Gets Its First Teaser Trailer

The LEGO Movie

Superman. Michelangelo. Kobe Bryant. Where could you possibly see them all in the same movie? Well since the title of the article already spoiled it for you, I don’t have to leave you in suspense before revealing The LEGO Movie as the answer. Chris Pratt will lead an ensemble cast including Morgan Freeman as Vitruvius, an old mystic, and Liam Neeson taking the role as Bad Cop. As you’ll see in the teaser below, The LEGO Movie is far from your typical film.

In a world where continuity barely exists, tons of LEGO licenses are brought together in what may be considered an ultimate mashup style movie. Similar to the vein of Toy Story where the setting explains why this variety of characters would be together, The LEGO Movie has Pratt’s character Emmet who mistakenly finds his way into a fellowship of Master Builders including Freeman’s Vitruvius, Batman, Superman and the like.

They will be taking on Neeson and Will Farrell (who upgraded from President to Lord Business) in this CG movie. Interestingly enough, the movie is presented in a stop motion fashion even though it is obviously CG. Even more interesting is that there are collections of YouTube creators out there making actually stop motion that looks smoother than that of the trailer.

Games: Four Classic AD&D Adventure Modules Released In New Hardcover Edition

AD&D

AD&D (aka Advanced Dungeons & Dragons) is here to stay and after almost forty years, it’s popularity has never been higher. Back in the day, we played a lot of adventure modules that came directly from original publisher TSR. Some of our favorites were the ones for beginners, like the “Slave Lords” series.

Now, we can get those modules again, this time in a brand new hardcover collection, complete with the original artwork. That’s right, Wizard of the Coast has got us covered:

Ranked the 20th greatest Dungeons & Dragons adventure of all time by Dungeon magazine in 2004, these four modules — A1: Slave Pits of the Undercity, A2: Secret of the Slavers Stockade, A3: Assault on the Aerie of the Slave Lords, and A4: In the Dungeons of the Slave Lords – are together again, complete with original black-and-white interior art.

Added to the collection is an all-new fifth adventure — A0: Danger at Darkshelf Quarry — that players can use to kick off an AD&D campaign that pits a group of adventurers against the evil Slave Lords! Module A0, designed for levels 1-3, sets the stage for events that unfold throughout the remainder of the “A” series.

The new collection is available today right here. Click through for full descriptions of the classic modules in the collection.

Games: Why Is Let’s Play So Popular?

Lets Plays

A few years ago, we used to watch Machinima, original content created using game engines and screen captures. Red vs. Blue became the quintessential example of it, taking assets from Halo and creating completely new stories unrelated to the lore of the game. These days, game capture software has led to a newer and simpler concept that dominates the world of YouTube: Let’s Play.

The popularity of Let’s Play is an intriguing concept. People watch for hours on their computer as another person plays a game. Usually there is commentary from the player over it and in some cases there’s a webcam capturing the visual reactions of the player.

These Let’s Players aren’t even particularly skilled players as much as they are personalities. Amazingly, some of these Let’s Players have become the top earners on YouTube.
