Apple Announces New iPad Mini, New iPad, New iMacs and More!

Today at a press conference in San Francisco, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced some new hardware that’s sure to be on many kids (and kids of all ages) Christmas lists this year. Among the most anticipated announcements was Apple’s new iPad, dubbed the iPad Mini, a smaller verson of its mega-selling iPad.

The company also announced new, improved iPad, updated iMacs, updated Mac Mini and much more. The biggest announcement, of course, was the ipad Mini. The new, smaller, iPad is only 7.2mm thick, 25% thinner than the larger iPad, and weighs just 0.8lbs.

It comes in black and white models, and it’s screen resolution is 1024 x 768 just like the first iPad and iPad 2, but the screen size is 7.9-inches. 4G LTE support is available for the cellular model, an Apple dual-core A5 processor, a FaceTime HD camera on the front, and 5 megapixel iSight camera on the back with 1080p HD video capture.

It starts at $329 for the Wi-Fi model and goes up from there. Still, not bad for what you get.

‘Skylanders Giants’ Launch Trailer Hypes the Biggest Toy Game of the Year

The madness has begun. On Sunday, Skylanders Giants was released in game and toy stores around the country. Parents waited outside on the brisk fall morning to be the first in line to get their hands on the new Skylanders Giants game as well as the horde of new figures released. After the shortages of various figures with Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure it is no surprise that parents and collector’s alike flocked to stores so not to miss out on the latest line of Skylanders Giants.

Aside from the game itself which was launched with either just the Tree Rex Giant figure for owners of the original game or the Portal of Power, Tree Rex Giant, the new Jet Vac and the series 2 Cynder for the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo 3DS, there was a horde of figures released with waves 1 and 2. Not counting Tree Rex, four of the eight new Giants figures have been released. There have also been the releases of series 2 Skylanders (remakes of the original Skylanders), Lightcore Skylanders (classic Skylanders remodeled with pieces that light up when put on the Portal of Power) and of course the new Skylanders made for Skylanders Giants as well. They have also released the first Battle pack three pack which includes Chop Chop 2, Shroom Boom and the Dragonfire Cannon which unlocks a new Combat Arena.

First ‘Iron Man 3’ Trailer Arrives

Earlier this week, we got a new poster and the first official look at the Mandarin. Now, here it is folks, the first trailer for Iron Man 3 starring Robert Downey, Jr. and written/directed by Shane Black, the guy who wrote Lethal Weapon. In this one Tony Stark “has his back against the wall on a quest to find his enemy. He also discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say it’s a bit of both. Of course, there’s also another question that needs to be answered: Is he getting too old for this shit?

Iron Man 3, which also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Ben Kinsgley, will be in theaters in Digital 3D and RealD on May 3, 2013.

Monday Picks: ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (1978)

George Romero’s second chapter in his Living Dead series, Dawn of the Dead (1978), picks up after the events of Night of the Living Dead (1968). Dawn of the Dead is a fantastic, gory and at times satirical look at America and especially at American consumerism. Despite it gruesome effects, many consider Dawn to be of the greatest horror films ever made and it still continues to hold records for its popularity in pop culture and rankings among film critics.

Set not too far after the events of Night of the Living Dead, Dawn opens where the United States (and possibly the entire world) has succumb to a phenomenon which has caused the bodies of the recently dead to return to life and to pray on the flesh of the living.

Meet the New Q, Not the Same as the Old Q

It’s been some time since we got to see “Q” in a James Bond movie. He’s basically been absent since Desmond Llewelyn passed away in 1999, even though John Cleese took up the official “Q” moniker in Die Another Day. Still, Llewelyn will always be “Q” to us.

That hasn’t stopped the makers of Skyfall from giving it a try, however. They’ve introduced a new ‘Q” for the upcoming movie, played by Ben Whishaw, and we’ve got a clip of him, with Daniel Craig’s James Bond, for you today.

Even though he’s a new “Q”, we sorta like the kid. He could end up being okay after all.

Box Office Report: ‘Paranormal Activity 4’ Disappoints As ‘Argo’ Holds Strong

Oh late October, how you are filled with mystery and intrigue in regards to the Box Office. Last year at this time the third Paranormal Activity ‘film’ set October records with a huge opening. This year another record has been set on this weekend, but not by the sequel to the found footage ghost-a-palooza.

But first we must report on the winner of this weekend, and we use that term loosely. Paranormal Activity 4 could only muster about $30 Million in its opening frame. Now I know what you are saying: ‘Hey, pompous box office reporting guy, $30 Million is a huge first weekend this time of year, especially for a cheap film with a built-in home video audience.’ You would be 100% right, but in this day and age of sequels and remakes, success is often judged on the franchise average and not the actual performance. In that light, PA4 is going to go down as the worst performing of the bunch, and probably by a wide margin too.

Over on the happier end of the spectrum is the growing beast that is Argo. Last weekend the film came in a close second with a solid near $20 Million weekend. This weekend it did something rather incredible, Argo only dropped 14.6% with a total close to $17 Million. This is the best hold ever for a film in such a wide release over a non holiday weekend. Word of mouth has not just buoyed the film, but it has turned a nice performing movie into a record breaker, and one that will likely get much more attention before direct competition arrives in the form of Bond, Jame Bond.

See The First ‘Iron Man 3’ Teaser Poster and The First Official Image of The Mandarin

This week is going to belong to Iron Man and Marvel Studios, today we have the first look at the teaser poster and an actual shot of The Mandarin for you to oogle over. Tomorrow we will get a glimpse of the first teaser trailer for next summer’s blockbuster to be and by Friday all of this will be dissected 1000 times over by the fan community and we will know if the film will suck or not. Things move fast these days.

First up is the teaser poster, which gives away absolutely nothing new. It is just a stylized version of Tony’s hall of armor with an unsuited Stark looking back to stare deeply into the audiences eyes as he ponders ‘what should I wear?’. It is a fine poster and actually ranks as one of the better Iron Man one-sheets to date. Posters is oddly one aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has been lacking over the last few years.

The second image for you to feast your eyes on is Sir Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. For those who are not comic fan boys first, The Mandarin is the arch nemesis of Iron Man and has not made an appearance in the films, but his presence has been felt in the guise of the ten rings syndicate which is likely his criminal force.

Take a look at both after the jump.

The Cast of ‘Community’ Explains the Show’s Premiere Date

We are not happy that Dan Harmon left Community. That unhappiness is made even deeper by the fact that NBC has pushed back the premiere of the show. We don’t get it (obviously the network doesn’t either).

Perhaps we should all watch this video where the cast explains what the heck is going on. Let’s hope it helps.
