The Flickcast – Page 191 of 1030 – Stuff Nerds Love

Check This Out: First Episode of of the Fan Series ‘G.I. Joe: Initiate’

Fan films or, in this case, fan series, are often hit or miss. Sometimes, they can be something really special and show the fans love and support for the material. Other times, they can just be embarrassing to all concerned.

Fortunately, this new one we’ve recently found, G.I. Joe: Initiate, falls into the former category. In other words, it’s not an embarrassment.

On the contrary, it’s a well put together piece full of fun action and obvious love for the characters and history associated with the franchise. In truth, this comes across a lot better than recent big budget GI Joe movies have.

Check it out after the break. If you like it, head on over to the filmmakers website and give their sponsors some love. They’ll appreciate it.

Get Your First Look at Hugh Jackman In ‘The Wolverine’

For those of you (the males at least) who try to keep in shape, this is undoubtedly pretty intimidating. Putting that aside, however, it does give one a bit of hope that the next time Wolverine appears on screen in a major motion picture he will look pretty awesome.

Of course, we’re talking about the just released first picture of Hugh Jackman from the upcoming film The Wolverine. And from what we can see so far, we can deduce at least one fact: Hugh Jackman must work out.

Of course, it’s impossible to judge an entire movie from one picture (although some may try). Still, it does seem that Jackman is taking the physical part of his role very seriously and is making sure he looks the part as much as possible.

Click through for the full pic after the break. Look for The Wolverine, featuring Hugh Jackman and is impressive arm, to hit theaters on July 26, 2012.

Riot Breaks Out at Foxconn Plant, Dozens Injured

It seems the people who actually make parts for many of our shiny toys (like the iPhone 5) are up in arms again. This time, they decided to riot and, of course, there’s video. Approximately 40 people were injured and 20 were arrested and so far nobody is really sure (or they aren’t saying) what caused the riot.

Preliminary reports suggested the incident began after a security guard struck a worker during anti-Japan protests. The plant, which manufactures magnesium alloy components and LED lighting products, has been closed following the incident.

Other reports say as many as 2,000 workers were involved and according to Foxconn the incident was triggered by “a fight among workers from different production lines,” but the company noted it is “still investigating the cause of the fight and the number of people involved.”

I wonder if we’ll ever know what really happened? Our guess is probably not. Check out the video after the break.

Tokyo Game Show Trailer and Screens for ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’

This past week, gaming was abound with announcements at the Tokyo Game Show. The biggest announcement for both gamers and comic book fans was that Injustice: Gods Among Us is set to release in April of 2013. This means we will be getting Injustice well before Comic Con next summer (which sadly means no repeat of this summer’s Injustice party featuring Jessica Nigri). Injustice: Gods Among Us is the Netherreal Studios fighting game (the guys who made Mortal Kombat) being published by WB Games for those who haven’t been following.

Along with the announcement of Injustice’s release date, a new gameplay trailer was shown as well. In the trailer, we catch a glimpse at some new seriously brutal moves. Everything from Wonder Woman calling in some Amazonian assistance to Nightwing using a motorcycle to aid in his beat down, the move sets look like they have been given a serious upgrade since these characters appeared in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. What we can’t tell though because this gameplay footage doesn’t offer any context is if these are standard special moves or if these will be end of match moves, since fatalities won’t exist in this gaming universe. If these are those big finale moves though, there look to be some awesome minds working on the game to take the personalities of these characters and create such inspired scenes from them.

Take a look at the trailer and new screens below for Injustice: Gods Among Us, set for release in April 2013 for the XBox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 3. In the comments, let us know who else you want to see join the cast of Injustice: Gods Among Us and what kind of brutal finisher you want them to have.

Verizon iPhone 5 Is Unlocked, Can Be Used on GSM Carriers

Well, surprise surprise. It seems Verizon has decided that if you’re willing to pay for an iPhone 5, you should be able to use it on other carriers besides theirs if you wish.

What am I talking about? Well, according to a report, the iPhone smartphones coming from Verizon are unlocked and can be used with any GSM carrier in addition to Verizon’s network.

I’ll let that sink in a minute. Okay, but what does it mean? Well, it means you can slap in a SIM card from AT&T or, most likley T-Mobile or another GSM carrier in Europe or wherever, and use the iPhone 5 on their networks as well.

Unfortunately, you won’t get 4G LTE due to the differences in the way the carriers work, but you will get 3G and the ability to make calls, text, etc.  Not bad. Not bad at all.

Now if only AT&T would do this too.

James Bond Now Drinks Beer . . . At Least In This New Heineken Commercial

With the next James Bond actioneer, Skyfall, set for release in November, you can bet your hard-earned dollars we’re going to start seeing a crapload of promotional material for the movie. One of those promotional materials just happens to be a new commercial for Heineken featuring Ian Fleming’s master spy.

Heineken you say? Why, isn’t that a beer? I thought James Bond drank a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred? Sure, everybody knows that. . . Everybody except, it seems, the makers of Skyfall.

In the new Bond film, 007 is a beer drinker. His brand of choice? Heineken, of course. Yeah, we don’t really like the idea either.

Even so, the commercial is pretty cool and from what we’ve seen so far, the movie looks pretty cool too.

Judge for yourself after the break.

Movie Review: ‘The Master’

Take a good look at this photo. Ask yourself: Do I want to look at this face, up close, wearing mostly this expression, on the giant screen, for two plus hours? Because that is what watching The Master entails. I did, and I enjoyed it, I think, although there were definitely times during the grip of this intense, psychologically fraught film, when it felt very much as though I were myself caught in its subject: a cult of personality.

Although there is much double-talk on the part of both director and distributor to avoid litigation by the extremely defensive Scientology camp, this film can be taken as nothing other than a very clear roman à clef of the very strange life and work of L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. His stand-in here is named Lancaster Dodd, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who by all reports bears an uncanny resemblance to the young L. Ron Hubbard. Furthermore, the story begins in 1950, exactly the date of the beginning of the development of Hubbard’s own work in Dianetics and the “technologies” that would eventually come to be encoded as the doctrines of Scientology.

People Lineup Around the World for the iPhone 5

Think people don’t like Apple or its products? Think again. Or, more to the point, think different.

As these videos demonstrate, people love Apple and its products and don’t mind waiting in line to buy them. Even those not in the U.S. As for us, we’re waiting for Fedex to arrive because we just don’t like lines.

Even though it does kinda look like fun. . . Happy iPhone 5 day.
