‘Twisted Metal’ Crashing Its Way Onto the Big Screen

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance co-director Brian Taylor is set to write and direct a live action adaptation of the iconic video game Twisted Metal. Sony Pictures has offered Taylor a 7-figure deal to head up the film.

Like the game, the film will revolve around an underground event that pits a number of combatants in a fight to the death. They are outfitted in armored weaponized cars that are pimped out with heavy weaponry that includes missiles and machine guns. Each character is set to have their own specialty weapons and style similar to the game. The sole survivor will get any wish granted.

It is rumored that the film will include such signature contestant characters as Sweet Tooth, a homicidal clown who drives an ice cream truck, and Doll Face, a young woman who is trapped behind a porcelain mask and who drives an 18-wheeler.

This is the first project that Taylor will helm solo. He has always teamed with Mark Neveldine on such films as the Crank series. There have been two so far, and they are talking about making a third, in 3D, as well as a possible future Ghost Rider. The team will continue to write and direct films together.

Michael Rosenbaum to Direct First Feature ‘Old Days’ with Morena Baccarin

When you’ve spent so much time being a bad guy on TV and then, during a break from your series wearing a dress in a college comedy, what would you want to do next? The answer for actor Michael Rosenbaum who, of course, played the evil and misunderstood Lex Luthor for seven seasons on Smallville, is that he wants to direct.

That’s right, Lex Luthor is now a director and will be helming his first feature film, the drama Old Days. Rosenbaum also wrote and will star in the new project. The lovely and talented Morena Baccarin, who can currently be seen in Homeland on Showtime, has been cast as the female lead.

In the film Rosenbaum plays Jim Owens, a discouraged actor who returns home to Indiana for his 15th high school reunion. Once there he gets into trouble with his friends and rekindles a romance with his high school sweetheart (Baccarin).

The film is scheduled to start shooting on March 5 and will also co-star Sarah Colonna, Harland Williams, Jay Ferguson and Kris Palohu. No word yet on likely distribution for the project but with the names involved and the likelihood of a relatively modest budget, you can bet this one will probably get picked up rather easily.

J.K. Simmons Working on ‘White Van Man’

J.K. Simmons, who is wrapping a seven-season run on TNT’s hit drama series The Closer, is making a switch to comedy with a co-starring role opposite Kyle Bornheimer in ABC/ABC Studios’ half-hour pilot White Van Man.

The comedy features a blue collar ensemble that centers on a man (Bornheimer) who is forced to put his dreams on hold in order to take over the family handyman business from his father (Simmons). The series will be based on a British show by the same name and will utilize a single camera format.

The series takes its name from the United Kingdom’s phrase that describes the stereotype for light colored vans and trucks, which are most often utilized by self-employed/small businesses that render handyman or repair services. White Man Van is set to be written by Raising Hope writer Bobby Bowman, who will also executive produce with Mark Gordon. The series will also be directed by Michael Fresco.

Check This Out: Kevin Sorbo Kicks Ass in the Tongue-In-Cheek Comedy ‘Poolboy: Drowning Out The Fury’

In the past 20 years, Kevin Sorbo has become a pretty prominent name in the geek community, spanning over a few different subgenres. Of course, he got on the map by playing Hercules for 5 years straight, and then captaining the space ship in Andromeda for another 5 years.

Since then, he’s been drifting in and out of the comedy and geek genre with films like Meet the Spartans and FDR American Badass!. Now he’s getting a little more play in a film that may not take itself seriously enough. It’s called Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury, and its cynical tone puts films like Tropic Thunder and Machete to shame. Here’s the premise:

A Vietnam Veteran Sal Bando (Sorbo), tortured by his past as a Poolboy, returns home to Van Nuys, California, and a country he doesn’t recognize, in which it seems only Mexicans run pool-cleaning companies. Bando sets off on a brutal mission to reclaim his “rightful” vocation and enact revenge on the man (Trejo) who killed his wife and son.

Not only will fans get cult hero Sorbo in the lead, but Machete himself, Danny Trejo drops in as the film’s main villain. You can also check out a few other special cameos in the trailer after the jump. Poolboy hits DVD and VOD right now, where those are sold.

Former ‘Chuck’ Star Zachary Levi Jumps Into Fox Comedy Pilot ‘Let It Go’

Chuck is back! Well, actually, it’s not really Chuck, sorry. It’s actually the actor who played him, Zachary Levi.

Sorry fans, Levi won’t be back as your favorite reluctant spy. Unless, of course, they decide to do a Chuck movie. Fingers crossed on that one.

Until then, the much sought-after actor has jumped into a new pilot for Fox called Let It Go. The script was written by DJ Nash who will be executive producing with Peter Tolan and Michael Wimer.

Levi will play the male lead of the ensamble comedy which concerns a married man (Levi) and his wife, his best friend and her sister “as they try to navigate, negotiate and sometimes manipulate society’s unspoken rules.” Hmm, sounds good. After all, “unspoken rules” are the most fun to break, right?

No word yet on other casting for the pilot and when or if it will be picked up as a series. However, as we’re big fans of Mr. Levi around here (and writer DJ Nash, who’s a talented so and so), you can bet we’ll be keeping tabs on this one.

AT&T and Verizon to Sell iPad 3 with 4G LTE

If you follow tech news very much, and Apple in particular, you know one thing is certain: even if you have the “latest thing” from Apple they will be releasing an even better one sooner or later. That’s never been more the case, and more the subject of scrutiny and speculation, than with the iPhone and iPad.

So, it should come as no surprise that pretty much everyone is in the “what will Apple release next” game, including the Wall Street Journal. This time around the Journal is reporting that Apple’s next generation iPad (aka iPad 3) will feature, among other things, 4G LTE wireless connectivity.

In addition, said iPad 3 will be sold at both AT&T and Verizon. That isn’t exactly earth-shattering news, though, as both wireless carriers have had 4G LTE for some time and have hardware that runs on it already.

John Goodman in Talks to Reunite with Roseanne Barr for NBC Pilot

Fifteen years after the end of their hit sitcom Roseanne, NBC will be the staging a reunion of sorts. John Goodman is currently in talks to reunite with TV wife Roseanne Barr for the NBC comedy pilot Downwardly Mobile.

The NBC comedy pilot will star Barr as an outspoken proprietor and den mother to an array of characters at a mobile home park. Goodman is allegedly close to finalizing a deal to co-star in Barr’s pilot, according to Variety.

Goodman, who played Roseanne’s loyal husband Dan Conner for nine seasons on the ABC comedy from 1988-1997, will play one of the guys who work at the park. Goodman recently stated that he wouldn’t mind being on a series again. “You get tired living out of a suitcase,” said Goodman.
