SDCC11 Interview: Stana Katic Talks About Playing Talia Al-Ghul in ‘Batman: Arkham City’

While most of the focus is actually on the comics of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, a few multimedia franchises are making some big waves in the fan world as well. One of those properties is the highly anticipated sequel to Warner Bros and Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum known as Arkham City.

We got the chance to talk with some of the talent attached to the game, including Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, but one surprise guest was Castle star Stana Katic, who announced that she will be voicing Talia al Ghul, the daughter of villain Ra’s al Ghul,

This came as a pretty big surprise to both fans of ABC’s Castle and those looking forward to the upcoming Arkham City. We got the chance to speak with Stana about her role, what brought her to the part, and if we can expect to see Talia’s father make an appearance in the game.

Check out our exclusive interview after the jump and keep it here all weekend for more coverage of San Diego Comic-Con International 2011.

SDCC11: Teaser Poster and Stills from Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’

With Soderbergh announcing his plans to retire from directing, fans and admirers of his commercial and personal projects alike should savor his recent  offerings all the more.

The latest, Haywire, features mixed martial-arts star Gina Carano as a highly skilled operative for a state security contractor, “in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world” (my kitchen after chili-night Thursdays). After a successful rescue mission, she’s double-crossed by someone in her agency and made the target of several nasty-sounding assassins. As she struggles to uncover the truth and stay alive, “she devises an ingenious–and dangerous–trap,” and that’s where the haywire comes in.

Joining Carano is a cast that rivals Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 films, including Channing Tatum (GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra), Ewan McGregor (the Star Wars prequels), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Antonio Banderas (The Legend of Zorro), Bill Paxton (Big Love), Michael Douglas (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), and Michael Angarano (Almost Famous).

We’ve got stills and the teaser poster for you under the fold.

SDCC11: Comic-Con Mega Photo Gallery – Day 1

One of the most fun things about comic to Comic-Con in San Diego is the amount of people who dress up in their favorite costumes and their favorite character from movies, TV, comics, games, manga or you name it. It’s a highlight of the week to see all the great, and not so great, costumes that people come up with to enhance their Con experience.

To help showcase a few of those people who spent their tame and money to dress up so you and the rest of the attendees could have their day brightened a little bit more, we’ve got the first of our galleries from the show.

In this one we’ve got a mix of general photos, costumes, booths and more. We hope it gives you a feel for what the Con is like.

Expect more coverage of all the festivities and, of course, a lot more pics and video as Comic-Con continues. As they say in Hollywood, we’ll be here all week.

Click through for all the pics.

More Photos From ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 2 Released

Zombies are awesome. Be they in movies, comics, novels, video games or TV shows, we just can’t get enough of those undead sons of bitches. Obviously, that means AMC’s The Waking Dead is one of our favorite shows, especially because of the zombies but also because it’s a damn fine program.

With AMC’s panel at Comic-Con set for tomorrow, it makes sense that the network is releasing some brand new images from the second season of the series to get fans even more excited. In fact, we’ve got 9 new ones for your viewing enjoinment.

OF the images we see the usually suspects in the usual kind of danger but we also see that time and constant threat of being eaten has taken a bit of a tole on our characters. They just seem a bit more haggard this time around.

Although, if you were constantly under the threat of being eaten alive you might look a bit haggard too. Think about it.

The only other question we have is when is Rick going to finally ditch the uniform? There’s not more society dude and you’re not a deputy anymore. Just let it go. . .

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in October. Check out the rest of the photos after the jump.

SDCC11: Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ Release Date Pushed Back

Fans of Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman flick Man of Steel (although, not sure how one can be a fan since it hasn’t been released yet) will have to wait a little longer to get their fix.

Warner Bros. announced that the movie will open June 14, 2013 instead of in December 2012. Hopefully that won’t upset too many Superman fans who’ve been awaiting a new Superman movie since 2006’s Superman Returns Superman IV: The Quest for Peace Superman III for a long time.

The good news, if you haven’t heard it yet, is that Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer, the dream team behind Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are still attached and working on the script. And, if you need your DC crack until then, there’s always The Dark Knight Rises, coming out next year.

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (The Count of Monte Cristo) as Superman, Amy Adams (Catch Me If You Can) as Lois Lane, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, and Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) as General “Kneel Before!” Zod. Russell Crowe is reported to be in final talks as Jor-El.

Obviously, we’ll be following this one pretty closely.

SDCC11: Check Out This Brand New Trailer for ‘Prototype 2’

With all the movie, TV and of course, comic book news during San Diego Comic-Con it’s important to keep in mind that the Con also features a great deal of video game news as well. We’ve already brought you an exclusive interview with Dee Brown of Beenox talking all about the upcoming Spider-Man: Edge of Time game.

Now, we’ve got the brand new trailer for a game I’m personally looking forward to: Prototype 2. Here’s all the scoop about this upcoming game, directly from Activision and Radical Entertainment:

“As the game’s all-new infected protagonist, Sgt. James Heller, players will cut a bloody swathe through the wastelands of post-viral New York Zero (or more simply…NYZ) with unparalleled locomotion, building up a vast genetic arsenal of deadly, biological weapons and abilities as they hunt, kill and consume their way toward the ultimate goal – to kill…Alex…Mercer!”

The game is currently in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation3, and Windows PC. Expect the game in April 2012. Until then, click through to check out the trailer. By doing so you certify you are 18 years of age or older.

SDCC11: First Teaser Poster for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Now Online

What would a day at Comic-Con be without a lot of news and announcements? Well, a pretty boring day for sure.

Fortunately, we won’t have that problem today because hot on the heels of the first teaser trailer being released, we’ve now got the first teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man (courtesy of the fine folks at First Showing). That’s right, it’s a teaser poster which, much like the one for The Avengers, doesn’t really reveal all that much.

Fortunately, we’ve already seen quite a bit with the teaser trailer so the lack of info on the poster isn’t all that much of a problem. At least this one is a bit better than the one for The Avengers which, to be honest, it pretty boring.

In case you’ve forgotten, The Amazing Spider-Man is directed by Marc Webb. It stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse.

It hits theaters on July 3, 2012. That’s plenty of time for some much better posters and for Webb to convince us Garfield was the right choice for Peter Parker.

Check out a larger version of the poster after the break.

There’s nothing wrong with collecting action figures or sporting the classic “I’m Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?” T-shirt when you’re well into your 30s, right? Of course not. It’s just that now, instead of riding My Little Pony and making out with Barbie (or vice-versa), they maintain a silent vigil over your work cubicle…and your teacher won’t make your put a piece of tape over “hell.”

So cubicles and teachers everywhere will be excited to know that Fox has announced a line of limited-edition, Comic-Con-exclusive products based on their most popular franchises.

Executive Vice President of Fox Consumer Products, Robert Marick, says, “Comic-Con is a great place to engage our most passionate fans and we want to reward them with unique and special offerings that they won’t be able to acquire anywhere else.” What better way to make your co-workers jealous or finally impress Meg in accounting?
