Raymond E. Feist’s ‘Magician: Master’ Debuts Exclusively On Marvel Comics App

Having read and enjoyed author Raymond E. Feist’s Riftwar Saga for many years, I have to admit I was pretty excited to learn it was being made into a comic from Marvel. Now my level of excitement has risen even higher with the announcement that the comic based on the second book of the series, Magician: Master, will make its debut exclusively on the Marvel Comics app.

Harvey Award-winning writer Bryan J. Glass, along with breakout artists Tim Seeley and Hugo Petrus, have adapted the story for comics. In case you’re not familiar with it, here’s bit about the comic from Marvel’s official release:

As the fate of Midkemia hangs in the balance. Now three distant friends—a magician, a warrior and a prince—must reunite for the greatest battle of their lives and possibly make the ultimate sacrifice. Can Pug, Tomas and Arutha come together to save Crydee one more time? Or will the mighty kingdom fall?

Magician: Master is the first full-length series from Marvel to be published on the Marvel Comics app before arriving in stores,” explained David Gabriel, Senior Vice-President of Sales. “Given both Raymond E. Feist’s worldwide popularity and success of Magician: Apprentice and RiftwarMagician: Master seemed a natural choice for our first app-exclusive series.”

Feist said, “I am both pleased and excited at having Magician: Master selected to be the first full digital exclusive series chosen by Marvel to be available on the Marvel Comics app worldwide. The creative talent involved makes me proud to see what other creative forces can do with my imaginings.”

This five part limited series will be released weekly on the Marvel Comics app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch beginning today. Check out some preview pages after the break.

‘Lost’ Star Terry O’Quinn Goes Back to Hawaii for ‘Hawaii Five-0′

Even though it kinda ended poorly, ABC’s Lost was still a pretty great show. One of the reasons we liked it so much was the terrific work of one of its stars: Terry O’Quinn.

You may remember he played the enigmatic John Locke for the show’s entire run and played it to the hilt. We’ve always hoped he would return to the island for some more action and now it seems we are getting our wish. How?

Well, according to TV Line, O’Quinn is heading back to the island for a protracted guest arc on the CBS show Hawaii Five-O. The gig not only brings the Emmy winner back to the island, it also reunites him with Lost castmate and Five-0 regular Daniel Dae Kim.

On the show O’Quinn will play a Navy Seal Lt. Commander who trained Alex O’Loughlin’s McGarrett in Coronado, and served with his father in Vietnam. Described as strong, stubborn and a man you want in your corner when things go south, the character holds some of the answers to the mysteries surrounding the respective murders of McGarrett’s mother and father.

Sounds good to us. Guess we’ll have to start watching Hawaii Five-0 again.

Recently, we brought you some pics and a preview of the upcoming Syfy series Alphas. Now, the network has sent over even more videos to entice you and we being the good folks we are, we’re bringing them right to you.

‘Conan The Barbarian’ Finally Looks Badass With A New Red Band Trailer

We can admit that the very first teaser trailer of Lionsgate’s upcoming Conan The Barbarian remake hit the web, we were far from impressed. It looked much like if Clash of the Titans and The Scorpion King had a baby, and that baby was not very pretty. Now, months later, we’re getting some killer action and things are finally starting to look awesome.

The film couldn’t come at a better time for star Jason Momoa, as he’s on top of the pop culture world after playing Khal Drogo on the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Now he’s really stretching outside his comfort zone and playing a barbarian that screws and kills…everything. Here’s the synopsis.

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

Sure, Kevin Sorbo went on this same adventure one too many times, but with a hard rock song playing in the background, and loads of blood, we can finally get behind this movie. Check out the trailer after the jump and see Conan in theaters and 3D on August 19th.

Activision’s ‘X-Men: Destiny’ Gets A New Trailer

The X-Men have potentially been one of the greatest comic book to video game franchises possible. Looking back to the classic arcade days, X-Men was a title that many gamers in their twenties pumped handfuls of quarters into to no end.

After that, pickings were fairly slim until the X-Men Legends games came out, followed by another drought until Wolverine: Origins, one of the few video game movie tie ins that was not only good, but ended up surpassing the quality of the film it was based off of. The X-Men seemingly would be perfect for the video game world with their plethora of both compelling characters and wide variety of powers to play with. But, as seen from title’s like Arcade’s Revenge, not everyone can seemingly get the franchise right.

Take a peek at Silicon Knight’s attempt at the X-Men franchise with X-Men: Destiny. Destiny looks great in motion as all the footage in this trailer is in-engine, not prerendered cut scenes. Each of the characters does a good job capturing the look and feel of the comics, although it is strange that the Juggernaut looks to have almost the same appearance as he did in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, a game not produced by Silicon Knights.

Lucy Punch Cast as Lead in FX’s Upcoming ‘Powers’ Series

For what feels like years (and probably is), the idea of a TV series based on the popular dark comic Powers was that of a myth. In the last few months, that idea has become more concrete, as Brian Michal Bendis has pushed to get his famed crime fiction adapted into an ongoing series on the FX network.

Now, things are getting more real as British comedian Lucy Punch (Dinner for Schmucks) has been cast as the lead in the upcoming series. From Deadline.

Lucy Punch has been tapped as the female lead in the FX drama pilot Powers. Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim (Punch), in a Homicide department that deals with cases involving “powers” (people with superpowers).

Super 8 star Kyle Chandler is currently being pursued to play opposite Punch as Christian Walker, a detective who is put on “powers” cases because he himself was once a superhero.
