Check Out An Action-Packed Clip From The New ‘TEKKEN’ Movie

Video game movies get a bad rap. One one hand, you have films like the Resident Evil series, which managed to skyrocket the video game franchise into a whole new world, and on the other hand you have Super Mario Bros. starring Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper. A mixed pot, really.

The former is exactly what the upcoming live-action TEKKEN looks like it may just be. Based on the popular gaming franchise for the PlayStation, this film is set to be a main competitor to any upcoming Mortal Kombat reboots Hollywood has planned. Here’s the premise.

The year is 2039. World wars have destroyed everything and territories are run by corporations, the mightiest — and cruelest — of which is Tekken. Jin Kazama (John Foo) witnesses the death of his mother Jun (Tomita) by Tekken in the slums known as Anvil. Vowing vengeance, and armed only with his street smarts and raw fighting skills, he enters a dangerous and potentially deadly combat tournament, where he must defeat the world’s most elite fighters to become the “King of the Iron Fist.”

With some pretty legitimate martial arts stars and professional fighters, this film looks like it may just be the real thing. We’ve got an exclusive clip from the movie for you to check out and see for yourself after the jump. Catch TEKKEN on DVD and Blu-Ray July 19th.

First Poster for Joss Whedon’s ‘Avengers’ Movie Hits The Web

As we rapidly approach the release of Captain America: The First Avenger, which is the final Marvel film leading up to next year’s The Avengers, we expect to be getting a lot more coverage and peeks at images and stills from the new film while it shoots in New Mexico and Ohio.

While we haven’t gotten there just yet, a correspondent over at ESQ. magazine managed to snap a shot of the brand new promo poster that Marvel is using to sell the film at the recent International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

Definitely digitally rendered, it’s not an exact depiction as to what we’re going to get from the film itself, but it gives a good idea at what we can look forward to when Joss Whedon brings everyone together for what will likely be an epic film.

The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, and Stellan Skarsgård and hits theaters May 4, 2012.

Check out the first poster after the jump and let us know what you think!

Vampires Take on Zombies in a Sneak Peek at ‘Deadliest Warrior’ Season 3

We’ve seen ninjas take on pirates, knights take on vikings, and mobsters take on the army on Spike TV’s biggest “What If?” show on the network, Deadliest Warrior. This season, things are taking a bit of a different turn, as the focus is mainly on real historical celebrities and even one of their first fantasy match ups between Vampires and Zombies.

Here’s a breakdown of what we can look forward to this season.

The debut episode, “George Washington vs. Napoleon Bonaparte,” features two larger-than-life generals who both fought in the age of revolutions, now meeting for the first time on the battlefield.   America’s first great general, George Washington, who defeated the British empire against all odds to become known as the father of the world’s most powerful nation, will square off against Napoleon Bonaparte, the brutal French warlord turned emperor who terrorized Europe in his quest to conquer the world.

Other highly-anticipated matchups this season include the series’ first female warrior Joan of Arc vs. William the Conqueror, Genghis Khan vs. Hannibal, Saddam Hussein vs. Pol Pot, U.S. Army Rangers vs. North Korean Special Operations Force, Crazy Horse vs. Pancho Villa, Ivan the Terrible vs. Hernan Cortes, French Foreign Legion vs. Gurkhas and our first fantasy matchup Zombies vs. Vampires.

This new season will also bring some pretty awesome new segments like the all new Armory segment, X-Factor, Chalk Talk, and guest experts such as Navy SEAL Richard Machowicz. Also promoted for the upcoming third season is a brand new digital combat engine that will help us determine who is the deadliest warrior of all.

Check out the first of many new teasers for the new season in which we get a glimpse at Vampires vs. Zombies, and be sure to catch season 3 of Deadliest Warrior on Spike TV July 20th.

E3 2011 Xtra: ‘Rise of Nightmares’ for XBox Kinect Screens and Trailer

So back in 2010, Microsoft debuted the next great technology, where they let people be their own controller. No more holding plastic gizmos to get characters on screen to perform actions. Instead, they just had to do it themselves and their character would follow suit. People could bowl or play soccer in Kinect Sports, river raft and traverse obstacle courses in Kinect Adventures and improve their dance moves with Dance Central… and then there was a drastic shortage in titles for the Kinect that anyone really cared about playing.

This E3, Microsoft intended on showing people this wasn’t the case when they announced a slew of new Kinect games and the implementation of Kinect in other existing titles and franchises. One of the stand out titles in terms of curiosity is Rise of Nightmares from SEGA. Now, the horror survival genre is nothing new. Games like the early Resident Evil and Silent Hill perfected the formula early on. It has even made its way to the first person with titles like F.E.A.R. and Condemned. But never before have those trying to survive been forced to fight their way out with their own two hands… and feet… and even head.

Rise of Nightmares promises to not only let players use their body as the controller, but it also acts as the weapon to. It’s one thing to punch a zombie’s face off, but it’s a whole other thing to headbutt it clear off. This is definitely a game we will be keeping an eye on and will hopefully be getting some hands on preview coverage with in the coming months.

Check out the live action teaser trailer and in game screens below and stick to The Flickcast for more on Rise of Nightmares coming to the XBox 360 for Kinect.

E3 2011 Xtra: ‘Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine’ Trailer and Dev Diaries

“It’s a bloodfest.” “Unleash visible violent death.” These are the worlds of the developers, not PR, as they describe their own game with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. This E3, THQ gave us more details and a new trailer to Space Marine. In addition to what we saw last year at the game’s reveal, Space Marine is further delved into this year with these three new videos.

Most notable is the addition of the Chaos and the Imperial Guard to Space Marine. Originally thought to be only Ultramarines vs. Orcs, these new trailers give glimpses of Chaos Space Marines , Chaos daemons and some of the Imperial Guard marines as well.

The trailers also take a closer look at the actual combat of the game. Instead of just being a third person cover based shooter like Gears of War where players will plant themselves in a location and hunker down and systematically pick off enemies, Space Marine encourages players to run headfirst into combat and actually rewards them more for doing so. The developers say that the quickest way to regenerate health is by staying in the thick of battle.

Make sure to check out all three videos after the jump. Warhamer 40,000: Space Marines hits stores in August 2011 for XBox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Patrick Stewart Joins ‘War of the Worlds’ Game

The upcoming War of the Worlds game from Other Ocean Interactive and Paramount Digital just got even more interesting. Sure, it seems like a fun game where you run around and participate in the events taking place during a 1950’s invasion of London by aliens bent on destruction.

But now the game will feature the voice of non-other than Patrick Stewart. That’s sure to elevate things considerably. Here’s all the details from the official press release:

Known to millions for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the popular TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as his performance as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film franchise, Stewart has enjoyed tremendous success over his decades-long film career including several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. However, providing narration for The War of the Worlds is an experience that hearkens back to Stewart’s childhood.

“As a young boy, I remember watching the The War of the Worlds so many times I was quoting the lines,” said Stewart. “The alien invasion both terrified and fascinated me and the movie has stuck with me since then. Now, being part of this project will provide a new way for gamers around the world to experience a fresh new take on a classic.”

The War of the Worlds is a dark and breathtaking new vision inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel, retold as a single player, 2D action-adventure. The gameplay narrative parallels the timeline and events from the 1953 movie adaptation, but introduces a new story arc, characters, locations, and sub-plots.

Apple Now Selling Unlocked iPhones

As of today Apple began selling unlocked iPhone 4 handsets in the U.S. only. The smartphone is now available in 16GB for $649 or 32GB for $749, and both models come in black or white.

This marks a change in Apple policy dating back to the first iPhone where the device was only available for AT&T GSM users. Now, it can be used with pretty much any GSM carrier, as long as modifications can be made for those who don’t yet use the micro-SIM card.

Personally, even though the price of the iPhone is high in its unlocked state, I would probably go this way to avoid a long-term contract with any one carrier. Also, this allows people to get their hands on the iPhone 4 now and then use the subsidy pricing to pick up an iPhone 5 once they launch later this year.

Sure, the price is probably too high for many buyers but to some this represents the best scenario when it comes to dealing with carrier monopolies. I, for one, think Apple should have done this a long time ago.

Trailer Tuesdays: The Bye Week

If there was one week for forget to check Apple Trailers  it was definitely this past week.  Usually there is at least one interesting trailer coming out everyday, but for some reason this weekend only had new cuts for films we already had seen trailers for, and has hardly anything new premiering in theaters or online.  Is this a preview of what we can expect in the fall?  At this rate, at the end of the summer we will have quite a boring couple months until Oscar season.

This week we have a franchise spin-off, a quirky indie comedy, and one documentary to throw in the mix.

Yes, this is a spin off of the popular Pixar movie Cars, who’s sequel is set to come out this month.  No, this one is not being make by the talented team at Pixar, and is instead being brought to us by Disney alone.

In all honesty, the mere fact that this is only a Disney film really scares me as to the quality of this film.  I would have normally thought that this is a terrible spin-off idea for this franchise, but if I hear that Pixar was still doing it, I would hold onto my hope just because of their impeccable track record with animation.  Disney, on the other hand, while I admire their effort in acquiring Pixar to stay on top of the animation industry, has had a long string of bombs in the past few years when it comes to producing feature animations by themselves.
