Cast Announced for ‘Mortal Kombat’ Web Series

A few weeks back, we announced that Warner Bros. independent production company, Warner Premiere, was taking Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Rebirth fan short and extending it into a full web series.

Now, as production continues, 3 players from the original short have been cast in the new series. So fans of Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Michael Jai White as Jax, and now Darren Shahlavi as Kano now have plenty to get excited about. Here’s the official press release.

Warner Premiere today announced initial casting for their upcoming live-action digital new media series “Mortal Kombat” which is based on the iconic gaming franchise. Jeri Ryan, (“Star Trek: Voyager”) will reprise her role as the headstrong “Lieutenant Sonya Blade” from the unofficial fan short. She is joined by Michael Jai White (“The Dark Knight”) as “Major Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs” and Darren Shahlavi (“300”) as the sly and cunning “Kano.”

Kevin Tancharoen who directed and produced the popular, unofficial “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” fan short that garnered over 10 million views worldwide, is bringing the same immersive directing style to this live-action digital new media series. Fans will be able to delve deep into the history of the warriors they know and love including “Sub-Zero” and “Scorpion.” Shooting for “Mortal Kombat” is currently underway in Vancouver.

The web series is expected to premiere later this Spring.

Warner Bros. Launches App Editions of ‘Inception’ and ‘The Dark Knight’, More to Follow

Today, in what can be considered a pretty groundbreaking move, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution announced it is the first to launch “App Editions” of movies for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Starting with the popular Christopher Nolan films Inception and The Dark Knight, the special edition movies and bonus content are now available for free in the U.S. app store in and more than 30 other countries.

According to the studios, these “App Editions” provide “a fully-loaded, connected viewing experience that gives consumers the first five minutes of a feature film and a portion of bonus content that can include games, trivia, soundtracks and soundboards. The entire feature film can be unlocked via an in-app purchase, which enables downloading and unlimited streaming, as well as access to the entire array of bonus content available within the App.”

With the apps arriving in the iTunes store today, this is something we’re going to have to check out for sure. On the surface it seems like a great way to expose these films to an even larger audience, especially where they may not have been available previously.

Still, for more mainstream audiences who’ve already seen and enjoyed these films, it will probably come down to what new and unique content these apps bring and what they will cost. For even more on these new apps, check out the full press release after the jump. We’ve also included some screens of these apps for you to check out as well. So, check ’em out and let us know what you think.

Check Out A Sneak Peek Of Next Week’s ‘Being Human’

Being Human is turning out to have a huge following in it’s new American incarnation on SyFy. Sure, the BBC series of which it’s “rebooting,” is still ongoing overseas, but the Americanized version is still picking up quite a bit of steam (and viewers) over here.

We’ve got a brand new clip from next week’s episode. Here’s a rundown:

In the next all-new episode of Being Human, Aidan and Josh discuss a break-up with Josh’s sister Emily.  Little do they know that due to the break-up, Emily is going to need a place to crash.  She claims with assumption that it’s okay with Aidan, and he says it is Josh’s sister, only to leave the decision in Josh’s hands.  When Josh asks for how long, Emily replies, “Just until I get back on my feet.”  If they do decide to let her stay, will she even stay safe until she gets on her feet while living with a vampire, werewolf, and ghost?

You’ll have to find out in our clip this week. Check it out after the jump, and see the newest Being Human on SyFy, Monday at 9pm/8pm Central.

First ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon: The Game’ Teaser Trailer and Screens

Last year, High Moon Studios proved that they understand the Transformers license. After years of bad games and Michael Bay’s “vision” raping the childhood memories of longtime Transformers fans, Transformers: War for Cybertron brought players back to the story they wanted with the Transformers G1 universe.

Now, High Moon Studios will attempt the improbable, turning a good game for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 out of the Michael Bay Transformers movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Behaviour Studios will be tackling three distinctly different versions of the game as well for the Wii, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS.

“We couldn’t be more excited to expand on the epic movie universe in the Transformers: Dark of the Moon game, and allow fans to experience the gripping events and backstories that occur right before the upcoming film,” said Paul Wright, Head of Marketing for Licensed Properties, Activision Publishing.

“The immensely talented group at High Moon Studios are huge fans of the property, and they are thrilled to unveil some new characters from the movie while introducing Stealth Force gameplay that lets players convert to a third form beyond robot and vehicle modes to defeat their enemies in more ways than ever before.”

Michael Rosenbaum Returning to ‘Smallville’ as Lex Luthor for Series Finale

Even though this news came out a couple days ago that doesn’t make it any less awesome. So awesome, in fact, we thought it was worth telling you about it even if though you may already know. What is this amazing news?

Well, get ready to be thrilled, especially if you’re a fan of Smallville. Michael Rosenbaum will be returning to play Lex Luthor for the series finale. That’s right, after months of speculation, the actor just closed a deal to return to the CW series for the finale, reprising his role as Lex.

“It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn’t be more excited about having Michael back,” Smallville executive producers/showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson said. “And as far as the way he returns … there’ll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent’s life. He is the villain of the story.”

Rosenbaum, who left the series after season 7 to pursue his writing, said he was “delighted” to return for the series finale. “I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is,” he said. “I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats. Ha ha. I can’t wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again….. Oh, and for Lex to become the badass he’s destined to be.”

Well, it seems the stars are aligning and the Smallville series finale should end up being one to remember. The series finale of Smallville airs on May 13th on the CW.
